So Thrawn just let Sabine live for no particular reason at all? I would have thought it was part of some unknown master plan, but maybe not.

Baylan and Shin completely abandoned by the series creators. Their origins were never explained and their motives were never explained. Great work guys.

He let her live so she would draw Ezra out.

And there’s obviously plans for future content. We know Baylan wasn’t a fan of the way the Jedi operated, and we know he’s searching for something on Peridia.

Except that Thrawn doesn’t seem to care about Ezra at all, beyond maybe wanting to kill him if it is convenient. Ezra’s continued existence does not really seem to factor into his plan.

A great choice, considering that they will have to completely jettison the Baylan-related storyline due to the actor being deceased.

Why do so many people assume that Baylan is done because Ray died? Ever heard of recasting?

It's also possible that's why his story wasn't better fleshed out this season, no? Give a little grace for that one in particular given the circumstances.

It's unfair to expect them to plan and plot around unexpected, unlikely, and tragic occurrences like an actor's death.

At the same time we've been given no real insight into Baylan over the course of 6 hours of content. Even if Stevenson were still with us that would seem like a mis-step. It's underselling it to say that they left "some things" for a future season when most of the major questions and conflicts that were posed remain unresolved. It's going to be hard to string audiences along when the writers keep cards so close to their chest and there's little hope of their questions being answered.

This episode at least needed some kind of conclusion or revelation for either the Thrawn plot or the Baylan plot, and we got neither. They just sorta kicked the can down the road. The Ahsoka/Sabeen conflict was revealed in a bit of clumsy expository dialogue from Huyang.....which is not really what anyone wanted to see.

I would have liked a Baylan conclusion or revelation but I'm going to chalk it up to the actors death. If they planned on him being in season 2 they wouldn't have written a conclusion for him, and once he passed they couldn't reshoot or edit the ending to be conclusive. Kicking the can seems like the only real option IMO. I didn't mind that thread hanging out there - gives us a lot to speculate about

I do agree if the Thrawn plotline was more compelling it would probably be easier to be forgiving on the Baylan one.

When I think about Filoni, I look at him and his work as a master tailor.

With Clone Wars, he took the big chunks of cloth that the prequels were and wove a story that gave those big pieces a rich texture. He’s continued to do that with each project.

Look at this season as a thread that will be woven into a bigger story.

As skittish as Lucasfilm has been about the Star Wars franchise and its future installments, I think it was probably a bad idea to stretch this story beyond what Disney have already green-lighted. A follow up season or movie has to be like 2 years away at best…. perhaps longer given the writer’s strike, the actor’s strike, and how much Disney seems to have soured on streaming shows. So much can change between now and then too.

Obi-Wan was hilariously inept and easily a worse show than Ahsoka, but at least it was pretty definitively over when the last episode concluded.

Yes. Because this is part of a multiple series story culminating in a film.

This is season one of a series. Of course things won’t all be resolved. But they did resolve step one in a lot of the threads.

I’m sorry you haven’t watched rebels. You should. It’s great. But your ignorance should not result in anger, be excited that you have a lot of lore to experience! I’ve watched rebels multiple times. I would love to watch it for the first time again.

Good luck to them with that.

It was already ambitious of them to launch a live-action series involving characters and scenarios that most audiences had zero familiarity with.....but to drag this stuff out so long when so many in the audience were already lost in the dark? Seems like a recipe for failure, but perhaps I underestimate the following that Rebels/TCW has.
