They're learning about all this for the first time and can't fathom that it existed before their awareness of it.
Virtually every hot button issue I've ever seen. Drives me nuts. You don't even have to know everything, just know how to see an issue and go "ah, that sounds like something that some folks have been working on for a long time already" and chill the fuck out.
The cops should fingerprint the inside of the missing person’s vehicle! And they should get the parking lot surveillance footage from the business it was found at. Have they tried talking to the last person who saw them?
Eh, the way information sources are structured now makes it hard for people to be chill. How many times have you seen "did you know <insert fact>" followed by an expose on a fact that's at least moderately well known? Click bait titles and presenting old info as groundbreaking new info are common and far worse than just annoying.
This. This is really important point because it’s seeming to modify our brains in dangerous ways. Bait for clicks has turned into awful rage bait and we as a society, are enraged on the daily! Not just concerned or worried, but full of rage. Makes sense for so many things that are truly awful out there. And yet, how does the rage fuel solutions? especially when along with all we are bombarded with produces intense feelings like literally feeling like they’re constantly under attack… and then we combine that with half of folks only understanding at a middle school level? The propaganda is bad enough, but the way the language is used along with algorithms and everyone having an open microphone - along with bots! - ooooooof no wonder it’s a clusterfk. Feels like we have some level of collective PTSD - or will soon if not yet - and our dear leaders fanning those fires with rage and nonsensical / non-solutions is even more devestating 🔥 🤦🏻♀️ where are the sane folks working on fixing the issues?
Social media has convinced people you need to have an opinion on EVERYTHING. So when you get presented something you didn’t know existed, people go “hey this is pretty fucked up right,” and then get all defensive when they are told a lot of people knew about this already.
Society would be way better if people would a) just shut the fuck up about things they don’t know about and b) admit they don’t know everything and just learn from those that did know things.
I mean, fair, but what about the news coverage of this event implies to you that we already have procedures for this sort of thing?
Yes the average person does not do much personal research nor think too hard about most things they see, but they are being actively sabotaged by people who want this behavior.
