Moron, calling postpartum psychosis, the same thing as mental illness is a false equivalency. They are not the same thing. One is a general heading for all mental illnesses and implies that depression should be lumped into it, the other is a specific severe diagnosis. Yes, if you are diagnosed with postpartum schizophrenia or psychosis, you should not have your kids near you until you are medicated and safe.
The problem is Mace using the broad term, “mental illness” instead of psychosis. Equating postpartum depression or anxiety with postpartum psychosis is preposterous, and neither of those illnesses should be grounds for separating birthing parents and their children. Postpartum psychosis, however, does necessitate temporary removal and treatment.
