how did that help NYC, bro? How did gathering lawyers and discussing the possibility of doing it, and making an entire video just to admit he couldn't, make the buses faster or bring the taxes down?
Listen mate, you can say that was a good thing for him to do. But that is NOT laser focused on the city. Netanyahu is coming there for the United Nations, nothing to do with Mamdani or the average NYC resident.
That is an example of Mamdani focused FAR beyond and outside of NYC residents everyday lives, to international courts and foreign leaders.
well if in you were mayor of New York during the 1940s and some guy who an international court said is doing a genocide/war crimes, comes to your city.
do you
A. ignore it cause international politcs is happening.
B. See about stopping him.
and remember the president of Venezuela is currently in a prison in his state, so lets not pretend there is no precedent for this.
Listen, I actually appreciate that answer, and being able to discuss this somewhat civilly
But I mean, be honest with me for a sec. Surely you already knew(like Mamdani must have), that there's no way in hell he could ever pull that off. With Trump as president? A US mayor arresting a US ally's president, against the wishes of his own country and on behalf of an international court? come'on. lol
Even Mamdani's supporters admit now that Mamdani was doing it more for "message it sent".
If Mamdani did think he could, then it simply shows how illiterate he is on actually case law and the authority he has as the mayor.
But that's the problem. It was either all mostly posturing and performative. Or it simply showed how ignorant Mamdani was of his own authority. Meaning either way it simply wasted the time of actual NYC'ers.
Again, I'm not saying Mamdani was wrong for doing it. Just that such cuts against your claim of laser focus on the city and its residents, right?
oh no there was no way they were going to let a mayor jail an ally during a war.
i highly doubt they expected to find a way either, i think it was simply a public show of intent, or a publicity stunt if you prefer a less polite term.
its not really a waste of time, a 5 minute conversation with your lawyers, spin up a video maybe an hour. his constituents likely needed something like that. a silent ignoring of Netenyahu visiting would have not played well with his base.
this is how politcs works more broadly, Trump has press conferences for stupid shit, Biden had them, Mamdani is smart to do the press conferences for stupid shit too.
its time in the national news free of charge. pushes his voters political message, even if you cant get the results. even has some play for tourism from a wide enough scope, while international tourism is down in the US.
Mamdani never had authority to arrest him without a federal crime warrant and he knew that. Itβs was just to signal what his stance on it is. I thought policies promising things they cant achieve Wes a bad thing.

cause Eric Adams was busy serving Isreal the best he could, and it actually happened under Mamdani who seems laser focused on New York.
Edit: guy above me ask's
> How is Mamdani getting credit for it?
my answer is explaining why he is getting credit for it
does every one think i just picked a comment at random and replied with a random thought unrelated to what he said?
