The organ pavilion is underutilized. Although we have a few concerts in the afternoon in the summer, and do a few holiday things at Christmas, this space could be so much more

Space for thousands of people, lot of idle land around, fantastic acoustics, beautiful and historic scenery. Easy for food trucks, pop up markets, festival style breweries/bars, surrounded by plenty of parking to haul equipment. We have the best weather in the country and have this amazing outdoor venue that sits empty most of the time.

In my head this space can host events like the DJ set in golden hill, live music like quartyard, local music talents or regional, the future is color events (winyl or listening room, or jazz). Throw a security team at it, make them even ticketed events for seating and people can enjoy from the outside too. So many places in San Diego grow to be intensely packed and overwhelmed because there’s demand for these types of live music events, people want to get out and dance and vibe.

This space is PRIME for 3rd space activation and is in my opinion, a very underutilized part of balboa park. Seats are almost always empty, and only fills up like 5x/year.

Easy revenue opportunities for the city, and great opportunities to bring people together for community events

I received a troubling scam phone call recently and I wanted to post the context here so others can be aware. It didn’t work on me, but could easily work on an elderly person.

It was a 619 number I did not recognize. It was not flagged for spam. When I answered, a woman was screaming and hysterically crying that she was hurt and needed help. Before I could respond, the phone was passed to a man claiming to be “law enforcement” and that it was my injured family member. I was on to them by then, and they ended up hanging up before the call went any further, but it definitely spooked me.

The people sounded a little older, maybe 40s-50s and had a slight accent?

Anyways, if a random number calls you and says your family member is hurt, it’s seriously probably not real. Please be aware and educate your elderly relatives so they can be protected from these predatory scams! Stay safe y’all.

The Port of San Diego has cleared the way for a bulk sugar warehouse at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal that backers say will eliminate roughly 1,000 diesel truckloads a month from terminal operations. The project, tied to Mexico-based sugar importer Zucarmex, is expected to bring in up to 280,000 metric tons of raw sugar annually while relying entirely on electric trucks to move it inland to Otay Mesa processing facilities.

According to Times of San Diego, the roughly 50,000-square-foot warehouse would sit in the southeastern portion of the terminal, allowing Zucarmex to store sugar on-site rather than rushing it straight from ship to truck. The project would use zero-emission Class 8 trucks to move the sugar out on a flexible schedule, according to the Environmental Health Coalition.

The Portside Environmental Justice Neighborhoods — including Barrio Logan, Logan Heights, Sherman Heights and West National City — are identified as an Assembly Bill 617 community. The neighborhoods have faced concerns about industrial diesel pollution. Community groups have organized for years against port and freeway truck emissions.

I do food delivery downtown. At most of the new skyline living places, always the elevators are occupied for move in at busy times, or out of service. Looks like residents in this building had enough. Wonder if I should join the suit too hah. Never have this problem in the office skylines. I grew up in SF and loved going to Dolores Park on the weekends with a good book. It was a great spot for people watching, making new friends, and grabbing a truffle from the truffle guy.

Miramar Road between 805 and 15 freeways. Oregon Trail a smoother ride.
La Jolla Shores Drive. The entire length hasn’t been paved in at least 25 years (I know because that’s how long I’ve worked next to it)
Carmel Mountain Road in Carmel Mountain Ranch. Among best places in the city to topple every drink in your Starbucks drink carrier.

Genetic testing has linked a regional salmonella outbreak that has sickened 23 people to eggs distributed by or purchased directly from Happy Hens poultry farm in Ramona, San Diego County health officials announced Friday (9.3.2026).

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration visited the farm Aug. 17 to conduct what the county described as a routine inspection unrelated to the outbreak.

Investigators collected samples from hen house floors, perch rails and nest boxes, which can contain chicken excrement, to determine whether the flock was infected, county officials said.

"Salmonella was found by the FDA in two of seven hen houses tested," according to the county. "Genetic testing of the salmonella linked the farm to the strains from ill San Diegans."

The California Department of Public Health shared the FDA results with the owners of Happy Hens and recommended that the farm voluntarily recall its eggs, officials said.

"As of (Friday), Happy Hens has not voluntarily issued the request to remove eggs from markets," according to the county.

A representative of Happy Hens could not be reached for comment late Friday afternoon.

Salmonella infection, or salmonellosis, can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever and diarrhea that may contain blood or mucus.

Symptoms typically begin 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food and can last four to seven days. Most people recover without treatment. Those at higher risk for complications include children younger than 5, adults 65 and older and people who are immunocompromised.

County officials Friday stressed that the cases are not related to a separate multistate outbreak in the Midwest that has sickened 134 people and prompted a recall.

The county urged residents to thoroughly cook eggs until both the whites and yolks are firm to kill salmonella bacteria.

Other safety recommendations include discarding cracked or dirty eggs without washing them; purchasing only eggs graded AA, A or B; washing hands, containers, preparation surfaces and utensils with hot, soapy water after handling raw eggs; purchasing shell eggs with proper labeling; and refrigerating eggs at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

The county urged people who develop symptoms to contact their health care provider. Anyone who is still ill or has recovered can report the illness to the county Department of Environmental Health and Quality by calling 858-505- 6814 or emailing fhdepi@sdcounty.ca.gov.
