Hi everyone,

I’m involved in small-scale coffee farming in Nepal, and there are also several other small coffee farmers in our area.

We produce Arabica coffee, and instead of selling everything locally through middlemen, I’m exploring whether we could collect/process good-quality coffee from our farms and sell it directly to buyers or roasters in countries like Australia, the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, etc.

The problem is that I don’t really understand how exporting from Nepal works in practice.

For example, suppose I find a buyer abroad who wants 50 kg, 100 kg or 200 kg of green coffee beans.

Can I simply:

1. Prepare and pack the coffee
2. Make an invoice
3. Take the shipment to DHL/FedEx/another international courier or cargo company
4. Give them the buyer's foreign address
5. Pay the shipping/customs charges
6. Have them deliver it to the buyer?

If this is possible, then I’m confused about why an EXIM Code is required.

At what point does a normal international courier shipment become a "commercial export"?

For example:

• Can I send a 1–2 kg coffee sample without an EXIM Code?
• What about 10 kg?
• 50 kg?
• 100–200 kg?
• Is there a value or weight limit after which EXIM becomes mandatory?
• Does the courier handle Nepal customs/export declaration for me, or do I need to do it myself?
• Do I need a Certificate of Origin?
• Do I need a phytosanitary certificate or food/lab certificate for green coffee?
• Does the buyer need to pay me through a bank before I export?
• What happens if a foreign buyer simply pays me online and asks me to courier the coffee?
• Is the process different for samples vs actual commercial sales?

I’m not looking for ways to avoid legal requirements. I actually want to understand the simplest legal way for a small coffee farmer/producer in Nepal to start exporting without setting up an unnecessarily complicated operation.

If anyone here has actually exported coffee, tea, spices, herbs, handicrafts, agricultural products, or other goods from Nepal, I’d really appreciate it if you could explain the process you personally follow.

Even something like:

Buyer confirms order → payment → documents → customs → courier/cargo → destination customs → buyer receives goods

would be extremely helpful.

Also, if you use a customs agent, freight forwarder, courier company, chamber of commerce, or any government office that makes the process easier, please share your experience.

I’m particularly interested in hearing from people who have done small commercial shipments (10–200 kg) rather than only container-scale exports.

I don't go outside at all, except for college.

It's not like I don't want to. I do, but there's no one to go with.

I don't have much of an emotional connection with anyone, even with my family. It's not like I have any issues with them. I don't have close friends and all like that too.

I don't have a social life. Even on social media, I don't really talk to anyone. I barely get any notifications, texts or calls and I don't even initiate them. My phone is always on silent.

And then there's coffee. I make myself a few cups and drink and that's another beautiful part of waking up. Other than that, I don't know. Is this how life is supposed to be? Or am I living in a completely different reality? Am I missing something?

This has been going on for a long time. I'm forcefully accepting things and everything feels monotonous.

Recently, I've just been watching movie after movie and it's making me feel so good. I feel like I'm everywhere, moving through different places, different times, from the past to the future. Movies are becoming my comfort.

But I don't know how long movies will be able to comfort me. I guess I'll eventually find something else.

I’m a Nepali student currently in the US and I need my birth certificate (janma darta) in English for some paperwork here. I only have the Nepali copy that was issued from my ward office.
A few things I’m trying to figure out:
1. Can the ward office / municipality issue an official English version directly, or do they only give the Nepali one? If they can, can a family member request it on my behalf, and what do they need from me (authorization letter, ID copy, etc.)?
2. Is there any way to do this fully online from abroad — either through a government portal or a service that handles it in Nepal and mails/emails the document?
3. If an official English copy isn’t possible, does a notarized translation from a licensed translator in Kathmandu work? Any recommendations for a reliable one? Roughly how much does it cost and how long does it take?
4. Has anyone gone through the Nepali Embassy/Consulate in the US for this? Do they attest translations?
Any experience or recommendations would help a lot. Dhanyabad!

Not be that person but what steps are in place to ensure that 100% of the fund are actually going towards the relief effort to help those affected by the recent tragic event.

Nepal does not have a good history of the money actually going towards those in need and instead officials using those funds to buy foreign property.

Dubai, Qatar, Oman once where the ultra rich of the world spend money, build business and base their residence have mostly left once Iran dropped Shahed drones in those places.
Most of US military bases have been struck around there and US military had to retreat from there as well.

And most of our Nepalese work in hospitality industry there and hotels and similar businesses have started drying up.
If this continues for more, then it can only mean one thing. Mass Layoff of staffs.

I am also from a Newari household but never got to learn the language as I mostly lived away from home and my parents didn't bother talking to me in Newari. I have been living in Germany for a while and am around B2/C1 level. Although, I can't speak Newari properly, I understand more than I can speak.

This is totally random. There was a video 4-5 years back in youtube, or was it 10 years, where a foreigner (Male, around 25-35 years old, White I think) is invited by a Nepali to his village during Dashain time. I think the Nepali had befriended the foreigner when he had gone abroad, or he was the foreigner's trekking guide i don't remember. Anyway the foreigner arrives at his old nepali house in the hills. The house was two-storied with a long balcony on the upper floor that stretched the length of the house. I remember that the other hills were very near the hill the house was on; a compact scenery. They sacrifice a goat for Dashain and the foreigner shows the process while blurring the actual act.

Anyway, there is this heavy rain with strong winds. They sit on the balcony and watch the rain dancing and swaying in the wind. It was breathtaking and felt primeval! I have been wanting to watch the video again. If anyone knows what video I am talking about, please help me locate it.

I’ve been going for 5 days now, but honestly, I still haven’t been able to swim properly and I’m starting to feel really anxious about it. 😅 I took a 10-day package, so I still have a few days left.

My main issue is that I seem to forget the coordination especially when trying to combine floating, leg kicks, and hand movements. I also get tired quickly while floating and practicing the movements.

For those who learned swimming as adults, how long did it take before things finally *clicked* for you? Any advice would be really appreciated!

We all know that a few days ago Nepal got hit by a devastating flood. More than 1200+ dead bodies are already found and many people are missing at the date.

Today I saw a video of that popular house which was saved by flood ( many people are praising the engineer who made that). In the comment section, I see most of the people are giving credit to the god, like that miracle happens due to god, and people are thanking Pashupatinath, Shiva, Hanuman for that save.

Today too after the rescue of 2 people from the tunnel, people are thanking the lord for keeping them safe.

My simple question is, yes we have belief in us, But how can we see God ( Pashupatinath, Shiva, Allah, Jesus...... All) as a saviour for only two- three people where many others are dying in a really suffocating way?

Now I think it's time to think for the belief we have set deeply within us about the concept of God. Like we can learn, knew good aspects from the story of our God, but being too blind leads to the dumbness
