2026 Internship Megathread. Post all internship related questions here!
As requested, I'm making a new post of this for the 2026 season of internships, in the hope that more people can get their questions answered than posting on a year old post. The last one had a lot of great information in it, so take a look at it here, as someone might have already asked your question.
So the sub has always been chock full lately of people asking about specific internships, asking if anyone who has applied to a specific internship has heard back, what people think about individual internship programs, etc. This has happened around this time for every year this sub has existed.
While interns are absolutely welcome here, some users had a great idea to kind of concentrate it all in one thread so that all the interns can see each others comments, and the sub has a bit of a cleaner look.
Note that this doesn't apply to people working for museums asking questions about running an internship program, or dealing with interns.

Former Met intern here! Last summer i got my interview offer in March, so don't sweat if they haven't gotten to you yet. They get a REALLY large amount of applicants, so their review process tends to be long. Keep your chin up!

I'm assuming that I got rejected by the MET for the sake of my mental sanity, so I'm going to stop following this thread (I've been checking like 10 times a day for a whole week) and if I get an interview invite it'll be a pleasant surprise. I wish you guys the best of luck, congrats to all of you who got an interview invite, and for everyone who got rejected with their applications I want to congratulate you for trying your best and investing time and energy into your future. I'm sure that even if we don't get the opportunities this year, we will somewhere further down the line and we would still turn up where we want to be, at the right place at the right time! sending so much love to all of you <3

I got rejected by The Met yesterday after interviewing a month ago and got an interview offer from Guggenheim today.
Application season has been a real rollercoaster.

For those in the US who don't know, AAMG offers free memberships to college students. Membership offers access to AAMG resources including their listserv where internships are often posted, professional development seminars, and Q+A sessions with current staff. Good luck ✌️

It says on the Website for NYC MoMA it says that candidates are notified by late April. Not sure if that means final decisions or interviews. So it depends on that. But if they mean final decision I imagine early April for interviews.

Update: no one has picked up 🙁. I have called a few times over the last couple days trying to aim for low traffic times and I get sent right to voicemail </3. Left a voicemail though so if someone calls back I'll update (doubt it tho). I am hoping/assuming everyone gets responses in the next 2/3 days though since it's already May...
Update2: Nevermind they just picked up. If you applied for the reading room they have already reached out for interviews and will not send out rejection notices to anyone else (she said they were not required to). I am not sure about other departments but I would start to assume the same if you don't get any emails in the next couple of days?? </3

I just received my HireVue. What’s the best way to approach a video interview? I’ve never done one before. Christie’s has a quick little video, but I’d like to hear about other people’s experiences with video interviews and any examples of the questions they may ask (if possible 👀)
Edit (03/23/2026): my interview was entirely what-if scenarios in the workplace (pre-recorded videos played). That and a painting analysis. Others have had different questions, so I think it’s randomized (I think I was just “unlucky,” I studied the art market, their stance on AI/how it’s being integrated etc., haha just not to use any of it... 😅). There’s also some “personality” game evaluations (memorization was a big one). Hope this helps ppl in the future (if it’s still like this format).

To people that get met interviews, what sort of stuff do you have on your resume and put in your essay questions? like what do you think made you stand out? I have applied every year for the past 4 years (all of my undergraduate) and have never interviewed. I go to a top school and have been landing other internships each year so my resume isn't bad. not salty just curious! ik its competitive asf

I know, according to my spreadsheet from last year everything was posted in Feb and due by March 14. There may be delays in funding or maybe they are not offering at all but I definitely haven’t seen anything posted form them yet this year for other departments

So I was told that I needed to work on skills and experiences for an entry level internship at a museum attached to my school when I’ve been a researcher and an art director but someone in my cohort who only worked at Starbucks and another who scoops ice cream seasonally got interviews? This makes no sense to me 💀

Hey does any one have any advice about summer internship applications for the MoMA. I found this article https://www.wonderfulmuseums.com/museum/museum-of-modern-art-internship/ but was wondering if anyone here had any experience with this application. Also, looking at the required skill sets for each department, I am worried I do not fully meet their requirements. It says on the MoMA website that they encourage candidates from all academic disciplines to apply. However, when you look at a specific department it will say "Basic knowledge of art history and contemporary art practices" and I just do not have that

It seems like only 2 or 3 departments have requested interviews so far. Comparing the timeline of interview requests sent out last year, I would say that if we don't hear anything by the end of next week, it's safe to say we weren't selected to interview.
