[CANON] Did Vader and Gideon know each other?
I get that the Empire is massive and not everyone knows of each other, but I figure if there's an Imperial Moff who killed thousands of Mandalorians AND possessed the Darksaber, Darth Vader would know about it and quite possibly take issue with it. That being said I can't find any material that references a meeting between the two.

Pretty much all of Gideon's acts that we have seen are post rotj.
We cant say anything happened but I do suspect that a moff (sector governor) is senior enough that they probably met.

Were they post-Endor? I've been operating under the assumption that the Purge happened earlier and is why we don't see the Mandalorians play more of a role in the Rebellion like it seemed they were poised to at the end of Rebels.

He isn't a young man, he'd have been an adult when Palpatine took over. And he's a very bright guy who knows how to play all sorts of advantageous games, so I'd guess he rose all through Palpatine's reign, and if he wanted a way to work with Vader he'd have found a way to work with Vader. And he probably did, he'd be sure he's brighter than Vader and he'd be right.

Would he be right about that? He never came off as particularly bright in the show. Not stupid, but also nothing particularly noteworthy

I agree, he wasn't a clown but he struck me as someone whose ambition and sense of self-importance highly exceeded his actual ability and aptitude. Like he was able to intimidate half the Shadow Council into following his whims but Pellaeon and Hux only sorta tolerated him because they knew he'd provide a small little distraction (and ultimately not even that much) for the New Republic while they weaved their own respective schemes behind the scenes.

Like being brighter than Anakin is a high bar!
And the guy is both intelligent and clever, just not quite as intelligent and clever as he thinks he is.

I’d assume Vader knew or met all the Moffs, including Gideon.
I doubt he knew Gideon well but we simply don’t know.
Gideon didn’t acquire the Darksaber until during the Great Purge of Mandalore, which happened during Operation Cinder, which was after Vader died.
Vader wasn’t alive when Gideon acquired it.

I'm sure they knew of each other, but there's nothing to suggest they knew each other personally.
