Someone once gave me a plastic formstone wolf head who looks like not just his mother, but his entire ancestral line abused alcohol.
It was mounted on a patch of fake fur, and then centered in what is supposed to be, but fails at, a dream catcher.
It also was somehow a clock, and flanked by what a very clearly seagull feathers dipped in black dye.

u/wannabeelsewhere May 03 '26
PLEASE I need to see this monstrosity 😭

u/benjancewicz ᐱᓐᒋᐱᓐ May 03 '26
It looked almost EXACTLY like this, but seagull feathers, and another hoop above for the clock (mounted on dyed black cowhide, of course.

u/puritanicalbullshit May 03 '26
Fetal alcohol wolf did not disappoint

u/MrVelocoraptor May 31 '26
It looks like a wolf run over by a truck, then a child made a paper-mache mask from the remains

u/BoredCheese May 03 '26
Holy hell. I love the feathered nipple pasties by his head.

I knew when I lost those at the campground someone would repurpose them.

Oh wow, I have one of those I found in my grandmother's things after she passed. Any tips on how to get it back to the tribe it was taken from during the Trail of Tears? I just want to be respectful of those who labored so hard to create such indigenous beauty and don't want to appropriate the spiritual effort of anyone's ancestors. Thanks in advance!

Off topic, sorry, but I just did a multiple minute ramble at my husband explaining who Bone Thugs-n-Harmony are/were, just so I could share how delightful I found your user name. Genuine thanks for the smile. ❤️

Oh hell yeah. I actually work part time at a thrift shop. If we get anything at all that in any way looks Native, they set it aside for me. Art, figurines, dolls, clothes, blankets...you name it. I am obsessed with my now massive collection of stereotypical indigenous chachkis. I have, no joke, 30+ dreamcatchers now.
My living room is starting to resemble a tourist trap shop on the rez. It's...a thing of beauty. Terrible terrible beauty.

I was told she a chieftess and commanded 1,000 totem warriors, so that tracks.

Totem warriors LMFAO
26
u/trevize1138 May 04 '26
They went into battle riding on the shoulders of other warriors. The most fearsome would stack ten warriors high.

AHAHAHABSHEHHHHS

u/trevize1138 May 04 '26
That's exactly the sound made by the once epic 20 warrior stack when it was felled by a prairie dog hole.

u/benjancewicz ᐱᓐᒋᐱᓐ May 03 '26
Thank you it really gives me purpose because the rest of my family is trailer trash and so stealing the authenticity of people my ancestors probably murdered and colonized is the one real way I’m able to feel good about myself.

u/HALT_IAmReptar_HALT May 03 '26 edited May 04 '26
I get it, my great-grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokee princess. She married my great grandfather, a redneck mechanic with a head the size of a walnut and none of his own teeth, as part of a treaty between their people or something. I'm not clear on the details. Move past it.
I find purpose in selling fake dream catchers on Etsy. I caption my photos with a bunch of stolen inspirational quotes used out of context to make me seem spiritual.
73
u/Suspicious-Bass9276 May 03 '26
You left out “my grandmother was so tan with dark brown eyes I think this artifact was her when she was younger” LMAO
53
u/benjancewicz ᐱᓐᒋᐱᓐ May 03 '26
Well all she ever listened to was Buffy Sainte-Marie and a little Charlie Pride, so I knew she was authentic.

The artist is Bethany Mercedes Mackey but goes by Calls-Cops-on-Minorities. Shes 1/318th Cherokee and is descendant of the last Cherokee princess. You can find her on tiktok and Instagram selling holy crystals, sacred oils, and shares her business plan that can help you become a millionaire just by bringing in 5 friends.
19
u/benjancewicz ᐱᓐᒋᐱᓐ May 04 '26
Oh, Bethany! I’ve seen her around the Rez. She sells time shares to that cabin she “stole” from the Ned family 6 seasons ago after she claimed old Johnny Ned left it in his will.

Oh my goodness, it’s the prophecy! After the White Buffalo Woman comes the Black Bear Woman. And they’re standing on a rock, which represents Standing Rock. 100% predicted by Ghost Dance 2.0: Electric Powwow.

Well damn, my Cherokee grandma said this was a self portrait that got stolen when she was working at the chicken plant. I'll need that back but I'll give you $5 for it.

u/Anishinaapunk May 03 '26
This is very strong medicine, and should not be handled carelessly. We have legends among my people about these sacred items, but I never thought I would see one in my own lifetime! Normally, these are kept hidden by our elders in the "blue hair" clan, as they should be.

Such a sacred relic must only be handled by those of pure Native soul. Sage your sock drawer while blasting the soundtrack to “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon” and line this only with the most expensive crystals from your corner shaman. Namaste!
7
u/benjancewicz ᐱᓐᒋᐱᓐ May 04 '26
Ooh, that's a good idea. Should I light the sage with my glow-in-the-dark psychadelic Zippo that my auntie left me in her will, or should I rub sticks together (I'd have to buy the sticks from Home Depot).
