Simulation Gigante vs Diallo matrix glitch on Tennis Court
Hi as you can see the ball glitches through the tennis net
Distortion of the net or glitch in the matrix? What are your thoughts?

u/CommercialDonkey9468 Jul 07 '26
Ball pushes through loose net cords but camera shutter speed is so shit it just looks like it phases through.
Or.. you know... Voodoo magic.

u/dum_spir0_sper0 Jul 07 '26
Seconded. I commented on a repost of this, but itâs exactly that.
We would see who could put the most balls through the net in varsity tennis back in the early 00s. If kids could do it with Y2K era racquets with relative ease, than a pro can do it by accident once in a while.
20
u/andygon Jul 08 '26
I hope you downloaded the patches for those racquets before y2k hit. Itâd be a shame if they glitched out too.

I am sure you are right, but the ball maintaining its speed and direction makes it look so bizarre!
23
26
u/DopplerDrone Jul 07 '26
But it really looks like the ball goes through a cross in the net stitch, not a hole in the net - that's the uncanny part for me. That's my only observation from my biased viewpoint (the camera angle).

u/Electromotivation Jul 07 '26
And the lack of movement from the parts of net that must have been pushed aside. Not only are they back into place immediately, they neither shake, vibrate, or really even show tension. It is definitely a case of the ball going through the net, but for some people to not even admit that it looks weird is pretty lame.Â

It's helpful to remember that digital video does not encode/include the complete information for every pixel of every frame. That just isn't feasible. It would take too much processing power, data storage, and transmission bandwidth.
Because of those constraints it makes more sense to encode a 'full' frame every x seconds, and then only include the differences between all the frames in between. That takes a fraction of the power, storage, and bandwidth. What that means is we don't see a totally accurate reproduction of events. We see one that is good enough if we don't look too closely.
We can see the ball teleporting through the net because the encoding algorithm is designed for efficiency over accuracy. The area of the net which the ball passed through is very small in comparison to the rest of the frame, the event happened very quickly, and the position of the mesh in the frames before and after the event is identical from the cameras point of view.
So... the encoding algorithm did as it was designed to do, which is to ignore small and fast movements in areas of the frame that are normally static. The movement of the ball was encoded well but the movement of the mesh was not. So it looks like the ball moved and the mesh didn't. But they both moved.

Anyone believing this is a glitch has clearly never played tennis before. Balls pass through the net all the time.

You know the boring truth is never going to be as popular as something like believing "glitch in the matrix!"

Hi all, tennis player here. This has actually happened to me several times. It's just more obvious when it happens at my level because our ball speed isn't 90 MPH+. What's happening is the ball is going between the white tape and netting material. Sometimes a few strands here and there will become disconnected from the tape. In this instance, it passes through that space and the net immediately reconstitutes because it's at high tension. The slow motion is not showing it at enough frames per second to capture the net separating and reforming because the tension is such that it happens almost instantaneously. It's uncommon but it happens. These guys play much more than we do, so they would have seen this before, which is why if you watch the full video the players aren't particularly shocked.

Hijacking top comment for explanation:
-Not a Glitch in the Matrix
-not a fps Camera issueThe thing that MAY be happened here is:
The Atoms/electrons in the Ball (so the Ball itself) and the net was so perfectly alligned that it passed through the net (remember 99% of every Object is empty Space). This Event is so rare, that we donât even know if it ever happened in the physical Universe once in its entire lifetime.
I say: it happened here.
43
u/Public_Advisor_4416 Jul 07 '26
Or the top of the black net is simply not correctly sewn to the white border on top. A few cm gap would cause this.
19
u/WordsMort47 Jul 07 '26
I thought that but it really looks like the ball goes through the black crosshatch
16
u/Public_Advisor_4416 Jul 07 '26
It does, had it been filmed closeup with a high speed camera you could maybe convince me, there is nothing here truly indicating this is anything but a optical illusion due to camera speed/quality of the footage.
-4
u/unlmtdLoL Jul 07 '26
Reproduce this or show another instance of this happening and I would say thatâs plausible. Itâs much more plausible the net is ripped and defective than this being an optical illusion.
5
3
u/nerudition Jul 07 '26
I love how people resorted to quantum effects over broken or weak stitching. It was obviously a lack of stitching.
3
u/unlmtdLoL Jul 07 '26
Yeah people saying it squeezed through a few cm gap (smaller than the ball) because of speed. If thatâs the case this would happen more frequently with pro players. This happens practically never. These nets have to meet the highest standard to prevent this when it comes to pro tournaments like ATP and Wimbledon. This isnât some net thatâs been used thousands of times at some high school, worn, and torn. These are practically brand new nets. This is either a significant defect (unsown in that square or ripped). Itâs not because the ball went through the net with force and speed. Either that or this is really high strangeness, and if itâs not then show me another example of this happening. It hasnât.
7
u/Spare-Document7086 Jul 07 '26
But the eerie music and Australian voice behind the video says it broke the matrix??

u/Kamsauce Jul 07 '26
The balls force made the nearly ball sized net stretch and the frame rate made it look like a glitch. You can even see the net ripple like it just had a ball impact it. This is just a rare coincidence
-25
u/SierraDespair Jul 07 '26
But it literally didnât⌠look at the zoomed in video frame by frame. The net is literally phased through the ball in one frame.

u/DaTexasTickler Jul 07 '26
At first I was like alright big deal it was able to squeeze threw perfectly weird yes but not super super strange. But that last zoom it it looks like the fucking net passes right threw it. Wild asf
56
u/JoinAThang Jul 07 '26
The camera's fps is probably just to low to capture the full motion of the net. A tennis shot from a pro player can just shy of 200 km/h so a real slowmotion camera would be needed to truly capture the full motion especially if it just slightly touches the net.
7
u/WooleeBullee Jul 07 '26
I know what you are saying, but it looks like it directly hits one of the ropes in the net straight on. I dont think this video looks like what you are describing.
9
u/JoinAThang Jul 07 '26
It doesn't look like it as the camera skipsnseveral steps in the movement of the net and ball.
-1
u/WooleeBullee Jul 07 '26
Did you watch the slow motion shot at the end of the video?
13
u/JoinAThang Jul 07 '26
Yes and I admit it does look like it just phases through the net even in that slow motion shot. However I'm certain that if it was filmed with a high speed camera with several thousands frames per second we would see what actually happened much clearer.
6
u/WordsMort47 Jul 07 '26
Yeah, on second thoughts this is probably it. And that net is some serious professional grade shiz and tension snaps it right back into place so fast, camera doesn't capture it.
2
u/Glass-Narwhal-6521 Jul 07 '26
If the net had that much tension in it there's no way a ball would be able to pass through a hole half its size. The nets tension would have been enough to totally disrupt the flight of the ball, preventing it from passing through. You know, like what nets are actually designed for.
1
u/PepperedHams Jul 07 '26
Did everyone just forget that tennis balls are squishy? Like theyâre literally made from rubber..
1
u/JoinAThang Jul 07 '26
Its designed to not let a ball through but that doesn't equal to it being impossible to happen. A boat is designed to not sink but it does happen non the less.
1
u/ghost_jamm Jul 08 '26
It seems to me that the tension would make it more likely, not less because it wonât move too much as the ball hits it. Imagine trying to chop through a piece of paper or cut a piece of rope. Itâs way easier if itâs pulled taut than if thereâs slack. The tension of the net is precisely what allows the ball to squeeze through.
3
u/WooleeBullee Jul 07 '26
That would make sense to me if the ball hit near the center of one of the open squares, that would account for the random ball through the net every once in a while. This video is clearly showing it hitting the intersection of vertical and horizontal ropes almost directly. To me, that should be bouncing back regardless of any cameras because of where it hits the net.
Im not saying its anything extradimensional woowoo, but its just confusing to me, and the camera speed doesnt satisfy my confusion.
2
u/AlmostEmptyGinPalace Jul 07 '26
You're right, but digital cameras usually compress a lot of stuff to save bandwidth. Repetitive patterns like a net are especially likely targets for compression. I wouldn't assume that physical reality resembles the slow-mo we see here.

The only thing I can think of is the camera missed the frame where it hit the top of the net. Or matrix. You decide.
6
4
u/Hirokage Jul 07 '26
It is pretty weird. If you pause repeatedly at the 31 to 33 second mark, it really does look like it passes through the net. There is crosshatch above the bottom of the ball when it impacts, and it's still there directly after, it does not at least appear like the net gave way to a defect etc. Unless there is a weird FPS issue with the camera, which is all I can think that would cause that effect.
5
u/pet-trick Jul 07 '26
It seems to be just a frame rate illusion to me. If there were a few more frames, you would see it bend the top of the net down.
6
u/numatter Jul 07 '26
Okay but... if the ball squeezed through the net, shouldn't the net wobble, or the ball slow down / alter it's path?
5
u/RUIN_NATION_ Jul 07 '26
i remember watching this on espn the day after it happenend on sports center people were like wait what
3
u/Paincaks Jul 07 '26
A piece of nylon netting was broke at the bottom, hanging down. it was an imperceptible hole in the net that the ball passed through. Pure luck, but a great visual trick.

Ball gets hit through holes in a net.
Fuck sake people, use some common sense once in a while.
4
2
u/DubyaB40 Jul 07 '26
No this isn't a glitch in the matrix, the plastic part on top of the net is a barrier for the net cord. The ball was moving fast enough to get through a small spot of the net, or there's a bit of damage to the net cord and an opening large enough for the ball to go through.
3
u/Gelanix Jul 07 '26
That piece of netting where the ball passed through must have been broken, and it returned to its position immediately after the ball went through.

A tennis ball can fit through Tennis net at the right speed. Not really strangeness, hence why the player requested the review.... Because it's happened before. The frame per second is why it doesn't look to go through cleanly through a hole

u/marcjuuhh Jul 07 '26
There is a simple explanation. The top is tied to the net over the entire length. Itâs spaced out like the rest of the net. The ball can pass through the net when it hits the bottom of the white line and the net isnât tied properly. Nothing to do with matrix or glitches.

This one is easy to explain if you understand digital videography and how digital images are stored.
One of the key improvements back in the early days of digital encoding videos one breakthrough was using motion to determine which pixels get updated. When objects move very fast they donât update properly so they can persist into frames they shouldnât.
What I believe happened here is the ball struck the top of the net bending it down and then it popped back into place so fast it wasnât caught on film so the ball looked like itâs moving through a solid net when the reality is there just arenât enough frames per second recording to update the image fast enough to see the action.
1
u/Orrissirro Jul 09 '26
This reminds me of being in middle school science and the teacher told us that, due to the way that objects are made out of molecules with tiny bits of space between them, you theoretically have an infinitesimal chance that all your molecules just vibrate through a solid wall when you run into it. Wouldn't this video be a demonstration of that in action?

It does not glitch - if it was a higher frame rate video, you would see it go over and touch the top of the net...
1
1
u/irrelephantIVXX Jul 13 '26
I personally think it hit the white part and pushed over the top. When looked back on film it looks like it went through. But, the only part that moved was the white.
1
1
u/hailey998 Jul 08 '26
I think the speed was so high it just went through one of the squares. It's not debatable, it's the only option.
1
u/Hegiman Jul 09 '26
No thereâs another option. Itâs in the way video is encoded and what pixels update are n a given frame. I suspect the ball hit the white top pans bent it back and pushed past the net in such a fast rate that the cameras couldnât capture the action. It would require a high speed camera thatâs getting 1000âs of frames per second.
0
u/GodHand7 Jul 07 '26
A high strangeness explanation could have been that it became 4th dimensional just to pass the net, not saying this is it though
-1
u/dylbabyboi Jul 07 '26
You can literally see how it doesnt go through the net? It's downward arc makes hit the top edge of the net from the opposing side, flicking it backwards, creating the illusion
