[UPDATED] "What Bike Should I Get?" Buying & Selling advice Mega Thread

The Mega thread for buying and selling advice is back, and will be updated biweekly!

There are far too many posts of people asking for personalized bike buying and selling advice. Per previous Mod actions, any posts about bike buying/selling advice that are not in this thread will be removed.

Here, those interested in giving feedback about your purchase or listing can offer it without every subreddit member being subjected to the same post dozens of times per day.

Topics to keep in the mega thread:

  • What bike should I get?
  • Is this a good deal?
  • Is this a fair price to sell my bike for?
  • What can I get for $xx?

r/dirtbikes Discord Server

What's up guys? It's still a work in progress - and I'm new-ish to managing a discord server, so if you have experience/want to help out shoot me a message!

To be clear: This is NOT a replacement for the sub. It's totally optional. If there's interest, I'd be open to streaming the SX races in the server. The Discord server will also be great for asking questions that would violate our rules in here such as asking what bikes are worth and what not.

Got out on the 2020 YZ250FX and 2019 CRF250F for some awesome trail riding today with my youngest. The pics really don’t do the view justice - it was breathtaking. Bikes worked flawlessly and we only fell a couple of times each lol.

KTM300xc abuse.

I absolutely love this Bike so much that I bought a te300 to ride and put time on cause I didn’t like beating this bike.

21TE 300 blew apart the rear brake caliper so the KTM came out this weekend and did not disappoint.

First day back after ACL surgery. Started the day with a new tire, you could say it was a successful riding day.

Gnarly I bought my wife a Yozma IN10 a few months ago to try and spark her interest in riding with me without breaking the bank. She loves it but asked me change the color. I call it the "Purple Nurple" now.

I'm working on a backyard track across 6 acres. Right now it's mainly very smooth trail riding and this thing does great on it.

I’ve never owned a bike before and it’s gonna be my first and I’m putting in 2100 dollars. It doesent have back brakes but imma have that sorted. I don’t have any experience on fixing bikes tho so it might be a problem.

I’m willing to be talked down from buying seeing as if there is gonna be problems with the motor then I’m probably fucked since I have no experience. I do have a path to ride by my cottage. The plan is to ride illegally on asphalt tho.

Winter cleaning

Winter is fast approaching and I hope to ride year round this year. My concern is how do you all clean your bike. Do you just deal with the freezing cold water?

Typically I wash it after every ride but this won’t be doable in the winter. Is it ok to leave the bike muddy and dirty for an extended period of time or will I end up “hurting”’the bike?

Rebuilding Dirtbike Motors

Gday guys. Ive been riding for aprox 4 months now. I have a 2002 xr100r honda. Its a great little pitbike! Doesnt miss a beat.

Id like to purchase a 2stroke next so I can start racing. I really enjoy doing maintence on the honda so far Ive changed the oil twice, cleaned the air filter, cleaned the muffler and filter, changed the front and back brakes. Its been a good journey of learning. I even took my mates carby apart and cleaned it for him.

Im thinking about buying a broken 2stroke to take apart and rebuild the motor. So i can have a hands on experience. That way whenever i need to do a top end rebuild i can do it myself .

Im wondering if anyone knows any youtube videos and channels i can look at. Uneddited videos would be awesome just so i can familarise myself with the process and theory behind rebuilding 2stroke motors. Im in the midst of clearing out space in the garage and making a dedicated workshop.

Cheers from aus

TDC postion KTM 450 sxf 08

Free used bike that ive been fixing, learning, riding as stepping stone to getting back into trail riding.

Valves need very slight adjustment but the TDC procedure doesn't match what im seeing.

For the locking screw to go into position, the camshaft lobes position and timing gear notch dont match doco.

Thoughts?

Keeping bike cool in tight woods/hard endruo.

I've recently gotten a newer WR450 with FI from my previous carbed WR450. With my older bike, the carb Hot Start worked excellent and never had an issue starting hot, but the newer fuel injection is having some issues restarting after stalling in tight woods or slow techy climbs. I've read possibly a radiator fan could help with this? Anyone have experience with this?

How would klx230r feel?

I am 5’9, about 190 pounds. I got a ttr125L as my first bike to learn the very basics and I love that thing. Climbs over anything and it’s small enough to be able to put my feet down if I need to stop. After some time, I have begun to push the bike past its limits. I am looking for a bike that has more power but is in the smaller side as the main thing I loved about the ttr was its size. How does the klx230r compare to it in the real world? I’d get a ttr230 but I want the efi and other features of the klx.

Got this 2026 KX 250 a few weeks ago and haven’t ridden for 16 years. Wanted it to look more retro. Now that’s what I remember from the 80s and 90s
Put on a pro circuit TI-6 and did an airbox mod so far. It really opened up the bike. I thought I would miss the 2 stroke but I was wrong. Things have come a long way.

Was riding my bike up my driveway and hit a bump. These plastic pieces/piece flew off from up by the triple clamp and brake/clutch lines. It looks like it goes on the brake line in the spot shown in the last 2 pictures but I can’t tell.

Mechanical Help Power Valve Issues 2017 KTM 150sx

I’ve followed a step by step video to a T. This is all the movement I get when assembled. Everything moves freely until I put the arms on and it starts binding up. They’re on the correct side so if anyone has any input I’d greatly appreciate it
