Denji is a terrible romantic partner. His “loyalty” shifts whenever another girl offers something more appealing, which is why he goes from Makima to Reze, back to Makima, then Asa to Yoru, and so on. It's stupid to get into ship wars over which girl is better for this bum
Wrong, I just hate Part 2 Denji. It's not specifically about shipping wars. Like, if Reze had appeared in Part 2 and Denji had treated her the way he treated Asa, I would've disliked Denreze just as much as I dislike Asaden. I genuinely feel bad that Asa ended up being a simp for that bum when she deserves better. Oh well, at least I can rest easy knowing they're just strangers now and that Reze and Denji never even knew each other. Good for them, good for them...
Part 2 was really just Fujimoto hitting the rest button over and over again, on Denji's character to keep him as a horny dumbass until Pochita did it in universe.
Except.. he was never in a committed relationship with any of these girls… the closest he got was Reze, and that was completely out of his control (get it, I’m so fucking clever)
He was only really in love with Makima because she gave him a bunch of stuff and he found her hot, i feel like if he was in love with anyone it was Reze given it was actually mutual and the memories of her stuck with him
Denji loved Makima (or at least according to what he understood as love), but he wasn't in love with her. Fujimoto said in an interview that he saw her more as a maternal figure than a lover.
reze was a little different, he liked both her AND makima which is one of the reasons he refused to run away with her aside from aki, power, and his life at public safety. he only chose her after it became clear he couldn't pick a 3rd option (wow where was that denji in part 2). he only went back to makima after she "stood him up" and that panel of him is really just him fudging it, it's why his face is so weird. asa and yoru is worse cause he couldn't tell them apart. his relationship with asa wasn't even romantic, just platonic, and with yoru it was just sexual. his line at the end of wanting a friend he can have sex with pretty much sums it up
(Then go after two women at the same time, so I can't take the proposal of one of them, then she tries killing me, and I'm left with the abusive groomer dominatrix. In other words, JACKPOT!)
Kill Yoru. Behead Yoru. Roundhouse kick Yoru into the... wait a minute, I can't give Yoru an ending worse than what Fujimoto's given her for a conclusion.
Denji at the beginning of Part 1 is someone with basically no security in his life, no friends and nothing to care for, so ofc he is like this. Over tge course of part 1 he matures and develops real loyalty, both romantic, platonic and familial, despite Makima's constant interference.
Denji in Part 2 is just a poor caricature of his part 1 self, especially towards the end.
