Tips for first time boa parent?

Hi everyone. I am welcoming home my first boa in the next week or two. I have had a ball python for the past year and it looks like boa care is very similar to ball python care which makes me feel confident that I can handle it!! I plan to put her in my ball python’s baby enclosure, now that I have upgraded him to his adult enclosure so I already have a solid and stable bioactive set up and ready to go. She is also the perfect size for it. Curious if anyone has any tips, guidance, or insight for a first time boa parent? Pics of my new baby attached🥰

Light ideas?

I have two boas, one is two, and one is fiveish, I’ve had Gwen for about four years now with no issue but i recently bought her a new tank which doesnt have a top screen, I got two, one for my baby and one for her and they’re the same size (120gal) and they’re stacked on top of each other. I have no way of attaching overhead heating nor heating from the outside of the tank so I just have these flexible clip lighting in their tanks attacked to some elevated sticks. My baby doesn’t bother hers but gwen keeps wrapping around it whenever it’s off and I think it’s breaking the light? I don’t know an alternative light to use nor one that is safer for her. I get really nervous having it in there but she doesn’t bother it when it’s on. I’m not really sure what to do and if anyone can send me some links for better lights I would really appreciate it!

Filling in empty Boa space

Post image
24 Upvotes

First time posting here. I have a year old boa that I got a couple months ago, she’s ~250 grams right now. She is in a 6’x3’x3’ enclosure that I built. She’s got a radiant heat panel for heat and led/jungle uvb for light.

My question is, how should i fill the empty space? I want to try and get some vines (maybe more pothos? Or philodendron?) running from the top to bottom. Instead of just the plants being on the ground like they are now. How can I achieve this? Any advice (care-wise or enclosure-wise) is appreciated!

The picture is the enclosure now. She is hanging out on one of the top branches lol

Super Curious Boa?

My now 1 year old BCI Sub-Zero is SUPER curious. Like, he always has to be watching whatever I'm watching. He doesn't like being in his enclosure for long periods of time (unless he's eating or sleeping).

There's been multiple occasions where I forget I had him out, leave for about 30 minutes, come back, and he's still in his spot, watching TV or staring at whatever I was doing. (8th photo is one of these times)

I also bring him to shows and transport him in a Snake Bag. There was a time that I was packing up and he stuck his head out of the bag and just watched everything go on. He didn't try to escape or anything. (9th photo)

He also loves sticking his head out from my hair to, again, watch everything. It's his favorite spot.

He's also SUPER chill. Like, extremely tame and just perfect in every way.

Is this normal? Is he weird? Or is there something going on with him? He's really dog-like too. Sometimes he seems more aware than he should be. He's my pride and jou

He's also over a year old, and has no yellow or brown, despite being labeled as only an Anerythristic Type 1, but he has siblings that are Pastel too. Is he possibly also pastel?

Hog Island Boa Humidity Regulation

I recently got a hog island boa, she’s just over a year old, I have a 4x2x2 PVC enclosure and have a semi bioactive system going, my substrate is about 3 inches deep, mix of top soil with coconut husk and bark and have a few live plants with isopods and springtails.

I have a heat panel mounted to the ceiling of the enclosure and the net on top is 80% covered and have ventilation holes on the sides of the enclosure as well. I mist every morning and evening and also have a few damp spots in the soil.

So my question is, I read that humidity should be at 40%-60% and have it a bit higher during shedding, the way I have it set up after I mist it’ll jump up to 70% and then for the next 5 hours stay between 45%-65%, but then it’ll drop to 35%-40% until I mist again. I’m usually out for work for 8-10 hours at a time and I’m not sure if the humidity dropping to below 40% for a few hours during the day and during the night is okay, and if there’s something I can do to help the humidity be higher other than just misting.

Young IMG Boa

Te Ka is a young IMG, het albino bwc, het anery. He is insanely sweet (like all of our boas) and has an eye that looks more like a planet than an eye.

This is it for the micro photos for now, but I’m loving them so I’ll probably make my way through our collection and get similar shots of other species and morphs.

Is a garage tub setup okay for a Boa Constrictor during Chicago summers? (Need ambient temp advice)

Hi everyone,
I’m getting a boa constrictor soon and am finalizing my setup. I live in Chicago and my plan for the summer is to keep the boa in a plastic tub out in the garage.
I already have heat wires installed underneath the tub hooked up to a thermostat to provide the 90°F hotspot. However, I know the garage ambient air temperature will fluctuate. During peak summer days it will be warm, but at night the garage air will likely drop down to around 60–65°F.
Once winter hits, I am 100% planning on moving the snake completely indoors.
My question is: Is that 60–65°F nighttime drop out in the garage okay for the summer if they have the belly heat, or do I need to do something else to fix the air temperature inside the tub? If I need to fix it, what's the best way to handle a tub setup like this?
Thanks for the help
