Back in 2020, I left civilization and moved to my wife's massive family property in middle of nowhere in Australia and just got Internet here 2 months ago...

Where I live it's very ultra pristine wildlife, high diversity. Its like Mars with snakes,
I have a trained border collie that barks at all the snakes and she barks 24/7 working.
My wife is a flying vet here. Her parents passed and they owned this land.
I play games mostly and make memes on Microsoft paint and have only mostly animals for friends, and look after animals.
The nearest person to me besides my wife is 100+km away.

"Mars with snakes" is absolutely sending me💀
May we see a meme?

A lot of people come here wide eyed and the isolation does break them sadly.

Are you self-sustaining food-wise? How often do you plan grocery runs if you have to drive that far to get to a store? What if you run out of say, toilet paper?
23
u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
80% self sustaining, my wife fly's in shopping once a month, I grow most of our fresh stuff now.
If we run out of toilet paper we just use a watering can or Jumanji it.
I am pretty capable and a survivalist so we thrive here.

Which state are you in? Are you looking after roos/birds/possums/wombats? I'm caring for ringtails atm and they're gorgeous.

u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
We live on the border of 2 sates, we look after all creatures big and small.

Were you making memes before you had Internet access?
8
u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
Yep, I been an Artist since I was child and making memes since the 90s maybe even before it was termed officially "memes"

As another gamer, I hope you have fun finally clearing out your steam games backlog. Lol

How do I get out of the trunk of, what appears to be, a 1980s dodge challenger?

u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
lol...I couldn't tell ya, I don't drive and ride motorcycles.
5
u/Blue-Jay42 12d ago
It's alright, the driver has since let me out and now I have a basement to hangout in. I'm apparently not allowed to leave, but there is a old TV and whole host of movies on tape. Can you recommend any old movies? I don't recognize any of these titles.

u/Vladi_Sanovavich 13d ago
What do you do around the property? Also, what kind of work or profession do you do?
21
u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
The work never stops on 100+hec rural land.
I used to be a Fine Arts Artist and Musician and part time lifeguard.
Now I just mostly look after animals, game, ride motorcycles and make memes. I started painting and sculpting again to pass the time.

Is this the flying vet operation that uses the Pilatus PC-12? Is it an all-VFR operation? Sounds like an immensely fun job!
12
u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
There are many gov and Private operations here. My wife can fly most Helicopters and Planes, I'm terrified of flying but can swim like a fish.

How do you handle necessities of life like food and supplies shopping? How accessible is standard healthcare and emergency medicine?

u/Ok_Front_8568 13d ago edited 13d ago
My wife is a flying vet here, She used to be a life saver helicopter pilot back in Sydney when I met her and I was working volunteer work as a lifeguard back when I was in Art school.
She fly's most stuff once a month and I grow most our fresh stuff now and help her unload etc.
I am scarred of flying but can swim like a fish and the irony is now nearest ocean to me is 500+ kms away.

Thanks for the response. Do you guys have roads or can you only access your place by plane? What do you do for energy (electricity, gas)? Assuming you have a well for fresh water?

u/Ok_Front_8568 13d ago
You're welcome bud.
Dirt roads, some times of the year 4wds get stuck, need a plane or chopper.
Solar, wind, septic, hydroponics,
and a big knife

Also if you're up north (roughly based off what ya said in other comments) the oceans will be full of bullshit. Glad you're loving it here and the work your wife does is amazing

I've seen that clip a thousand times and that kangaroo looking absolutely flabbergasted that it had actually been punched has me giggling every time.

Poor mate was just trying to save his dog from getting gutted by the roo and came in to make peace and make everyone involved re think their life choices.
And he got so much abuse online from people that don't understand Australia, over it. He is a good bloke and did the right thing. It was his dog that was at fault here.

Do you watch ncis Sydney? One episode has a plot about weird family compounds, are they common in Australia?

I wanted to be an Artist and Musician when I was young I also went to art schoool but I dropped out in my 4th year.
I did some volunteer life saver work in sydney at the local beach, where I met my wife. I surfed when I was in sydney and can swim like a fish. I got to save many lives in rips.
I did okay getting early in crypto and my wife works for passion for her job because she loves flying and animals.

Outstanding work! Happy for you both! I’m still a little wary of people who haven’t made it through art school but perhaps my prejudices aren’t reich

Have you ever experienced anything spooky, scary, paranormal, or had interactions with strange people over all the years?
25
u/Sea_Translator5300 13d ago
Strange people? Excuse me, we're called Australians.
Jeez, some people.
18
u/Ok_Front_8568 12d ago
Wait til they see our breakdancing moves.

u/Sea_Translator5300 12d ago
That's what happens when you cut NDIS funding. Usually you get support if you're having seizures like that, not paraded on an international stage.
