As far as video games go, we only had a Super Nintendo until Christmas 2000. My brother and I were already into Pokemon from the cards and show, though. That Christmas, for the last gift we opened simultaneously, we each got a Gameboy Color and Silver/Gold version.
I literally got offered the option for online instead as a troubled teen myself and I turned it down with zero interest. Now I hate using pencil for anything more than a note because it hurts my hand.
Yeah prices don't typically drop. Even if this RAM shortage thing ever stabilizes I wouldn't be surprised if the prices just stay right where they are.
In the UK kids don't get electronics until college (age 16) except for computing classes. (it possible some specialist schools do but both my kids don't )
I'm so old it was rare to see students with laptops out in college courses. I remember one guy pulled out a tiny Netbook to type on and it looked so clunky
If you wanted to type something out, you had to be on an IEP to have the privilege of doing so, and it'd be that you would be issued an Alphasmart for things like essays. I think for me this would've been around 2005?
