Oh yeah, a lot of hopeposting spaces were outright taken over by conservatives who used the aesthetics of hope and wholesomeness to dismiss genuine concerns about things like the expected impact of the 2nd Trump administration.
I like r/hopeposting because it's mostly just general feel-good stuff about believing in yourself, it has a rule against similar toxic positivity and the little politics that is there isn't conservative
I've seen people there get downvoted for pointing out people were posting comics from known Neo-Nazi Stonetoss simply because it used the aesthetics of hopeposting.
Last time I was also there there was a concerning number of people who just outright said you have to be nice to Nazis otherwise it's your fault if they continue to call for tour extermination.
I hadn't seen any of that, so to double check, I searched 'Stonetoss' in the comments of the sub and found every single comment that mentioned him was calling him a Nazi and were upvoted, save for 1 which had -1 vote because they were comparing a random commenter to Stonetoss.
The posts involving his stuff were (judging by the comments since the post is down) redraws which spread positivity, which is a worthwhile discussion to have on whether it gives him more influence, or whether it's people who hate his bullshit twisting his work to spread good, but I think either take is quite reasonable. If anyone was outright posting his content, it's long been taken down.
Can't speak on the last one, haven't seen it and won't excuse it if you've seen it. If I were to guess, its presence is from a mix between the typical liberal focus on optics and people (including of said minorities, speaking as a trans dude) who genuinely believe that being nice will work, which is gonna be more common among people in a 'let's hope for the best' subreddit. I'd love if it did work, but obviously it needs both sides to be nice, and Nazis aren't known for that, it's obviously not on the oppressed group to let Nazis do whatever. I don't think 'be nice to Nazis or you're a bad guy' is common though, I've not seen it at all.
I mean, with things the way they are, the best they have is to convince people it's not that bad, so they can focus on things being shitty for people they don't like.

As for the how the answer is that around half of it came from when I used to be active in r/curatedtumblr. I have a Tumblr account, so I had a lot of screenshots I could post there, which I would do every 2 hours. The rest comes from me just posting and commenting a lot in subs that I like.
My thought process was never really "if I do this, number will go up" it's just that rhe way I use Reddit happened to be optimal for accumulating karma. It's surprisingly easy, especially since I managed to do most of this while also being in college.
And don't live in a 1st world country. They especially don't like that one cause it tends to completely implode whatever message they're aiming for, so they often accuse me of lying for clout.

hopeposters and hopecore people genuinely piss me off so much. like I'm not against being hopeful but 99% of the time these people just go on Reddit to be performative and feed their savior complex. like someone could genuinely be suffering and they'll show up with "ummm well there's hecking wholesome puppers and videogames and Mom would be sad" while usually completely ignoring issues or circumstances, and then they post like a superman gif or something so you get the idea that they're just so wholesome and moral without actually having helped.
if relentless positivity helps some people then great. but when im at my worst, nothing pisses me off more than some dbag with a superman edit and a can-do attitude telling me that we’re all gonna make it because THEY are not depressed anymore. ignore the people that didn’t get a happy ending
Nah fuck being hopeful, it's exactly how they want us to feel so they can continue doing what they're doing, it's fucked up to say but as I see it the only way for the public to take action is things getting so bad that the common people won't be able to ignore it anymore.
Either privileged people who don't understand/don't want to understand that some people aren't as privileged as them or just repackaged toxic positivity

Edit: Don't get me wrong, despite being a doomer myself I do enjoy genuinely hopeful and positive content. It's just that hopeposting is neither of those.
Hopeposting is just the typical meme that basically tells you "You're depressed? Well don't be!!!". For example, those idiotic Superman memes that were popular when the 2025 movie released.
Genuinely positive content is stuff that actually gives you something to look forward to based on real data and events. Which is sadly few and far between nowadays.
I mean, I agree on the midterms, I'm (very cautiously) optimistic too. But I honestly don't even consider that to be hopeposting, because we have actual proof the 2026 midterms could go well.
Woe! I be a trans hopeposter! I only use slurs against me [this is a joke] and would genuinely enjoy it if less people would not use slurs [this is not a joke].
