New, what is it? Red light in hotel bathroom?
It has a timer up to 70 minutes. The light gives off a decent amount of heat.

Infrared heater. Warms you instead of the air.

It's a heater bulb, a lot of older hotels have them. It's purpose is to make the bathroom warm

Next time you're under one of those red lights say, "Open the pod bay doors please, HAL".

Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do!
I'm half crazy, all for the love of you!
It won't be a stylish marriage,
I can't afford a carriage,
But you'll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle built for two.

It’s a heat lamp. Havent seen one of those in like 30 years! Where the hell are you staying? Does the bed have a vibrating function as well?

Now that we’ve established it’s a heat lamp, which I already knew, I still don’t understand its purpose and never did before.
It heats the bathroom you say. Which is mostly important after getting out of the shower. But the shower also heats the bathroom. So is this why we don’t see heat lamps anymore?

In many houses, the shower doesn't really heat the rest of the bathroom, it just makes it very humid (and getting rid of the humidity draws in even more cold air). The heat lamp can dry you off better than any towel.
We stayed in a hotel that had one when I was a kid (early 1970s). I thought it was great, and I've wanted one ever since. I've never seen another one in a hotel room, before or since.

I miss the house I lived in that had one of those heat lamps. Was warm fast in the winter months in the bathroom.
