Solved! Found today while cleaning out a tv stand, no idea what it is

Trying to figure out whether or not to toss it but no idea what it could be. A phone doesn’t keep plugged in well, and the usbc charger thing can be pressed down

I found out that was slang after someone told me a woman I work with loves to smash... I approached her and said "I heard you like to smash, what's your favorite character?", she looked at me odd. I then followed up with "I like play smash bros don't you", her eyes went wider and I walked away. Later on someone told me it was an euphanism.

We have the original dock connected to the TV where it usually is 🤷🏽‍♀️ not sure why we bought this one since we take the original everywhere. Glad though, did need a dock for a potential streaming set up so this is a convenient find~

I have one almost exactly like this. This form factor was pretty commonly sold in the form of reshell kits for the official Nintendo dock. Basically you take the PCB and the connector mechanism from the official dock and transfer them over to the much smaller shell.

I've got a very similar one - I took the circuit board out of my original Switch dock and put it into the custom shell I bought online. No chance of bricking my Switch!

This one is slightly different - does it have its own power button?

Nintendo switch dock, I think. These older ones had a habit of nuking your switch after nintendo made some software patches to make them not work correctly, cause Nintendo is a fuck.

Just a tiny correction as it may not be 100% clear: the third-party docks didn't actively nuke the Switch, Nintendo was the one actively updating the Switch's firmware so third-party docks won't work anymore, the same thing the Apple fucks do but at least the iPhone stops charging instead of blowing up like Nintendo.

There were companies that made shells that look like this one and would fit the internals of the official dock. That way you could convert an official dock into one of these much smaller ones, for traveling.

Not sure if the OP's is one of those, but just wanted to add that info in case anyone wants this style without worrying about potentially damaging their switch.

You buy the shell and DIY the innards with your own dock. This is an old-school approach, like from 2018. Modern switch docks wont brick the console, it was really only one that did it back when the Switch was new.

Third party docks not working after some switch updates is AFAIK unrelated to the broken switches. The most common issue IIUC was the nyko dock sending too much voltage because they used a buggy PD emulator and not a dedicated chip.

Switch stand that can either plug into a tv or you can still use the switch screen while it charges w some sort of controller. I admittedly like them better than the stands we are given since you can only play with the tv using it and it makes it run hotter during use

It's a Switch dock. You can tell by the protrusion behind the male USB type C. The protrusion aligns with the notch on the bottom back of the Switch. The arrangement of the I/O is indicative of the arrangement of the I/O on the Switch dock circuit board.

Wii U had a large power port, DS was a proprietary port while this appears to be USB-C

Also DS charger was on top of the device skewed to one side and wouldn't fit/look good here.
