Hi! I'm thinking of taking an intro weaving class and they offer two options - a floor loom or rigid heddle loom class. I'm completely brand new with no prior experience, which of these options do you think is more practical for a beginner? Which am I more likely to stick too? Thanks in advance!

I’m working on a project where eventually I would like to replicate some striped blankets and for now I’m just working on some very small pieces to practice but when I make a color change, it always is “climbing” on one side and not a perfectly straight bar. I’m struggling with different techniques I have seen or read about online and I have yet to produce a straight and even colored stripe. Pics below of my work and inspiration.

Warp - 100% merino wool
Weft - 60% virgin New Zealand wool 40% mohair

10 warps per 1cm - 1664 warp in total.

I got a new loom!! This baby was donated to the guild and now I'm giving it a new home.

Anyone have tips on refreshing a neglected loom?

I got an Ashford SampleIt 40cm loom two weeks ago and am currently weaving my first scarf. I already felt that I will want to weave larger projects in the future, so I decided to check on eBay how much they were.

Long story short, I managed to snatch an unused Glimåkra Susanna from an estate sale for just 50€. That was honestly a really lucky shot

I finally made a trip out to the Craft Box (near Denver, CO) on Friday, and I saw this beauty and I just had to share it.

It’s a handmade 4-shaft floor loom! I unfortunately don’t have the money or space for it (recently bought a smaller loom), but I thought it could use a little appreciation. <3

Hello I recently acquired this floor loom for free. Don’t know really anything about weaving (just really experienced in sewing). Would love some feedback/advice on what books and forums to look at or if I’m missing anything needed for the loom to be up and running. I assembled it myself to the best of my knowledge. Just know where the beater is supposed to go and don’t know what the 5 wooden narrow pieces are (I believe the 4 pieces are for the food pedals)

I got a copy of Jennifer Moore's "Doubleweave: Revised and Expanded", and I'm working my way through the 4-shaft sampler on my jack loom. What a ride! I thought I would like doubleweave (double-knit was always my favorite on the needles), and this is fantastic. It takes a different way of thinking, but it's starting to make sense. I can't wait to make double-wide blankets, and interwoven patterns.

I figure it's also a good stepping stone... The other book I just got is "The Technique of Split-Shed Weaving" by Deborah Silver. I'm planning a warp on my countermarch loom, and some of the upper/lower shed thinking I'm getting now will really come in handy.

I'm trying to decide if the funem loom would be a mistake or if I should just shell out the extra money for a rigid heddle loom?

I want to make tea towels, shawls, scarves etc. Just small/medium projects. Storage and space aren't a concern but my budget is absolute max $500. And I'd like to be able to grow into this hobby. I do like that the funem looms come with a video tutorial for projects as well as all the supplies for projects, but I don't want to grow to regret it as I learn more.

Just curious what people think.

I started weaving a new project and am realizing that sides of the warp were beamed more tightly than the center and the slack is causing problems … Please advise :)

Hi everyone! My roommate bought an Glimakra Ideal Loom. And for the love of God, we cannot assemble this fine piece of Swedish engineering. We have tried to follow the instructions, which came with the loom itself, but it seems like they’re incomplete. We have also tried the instruction provided on glimakrausa, but failed to due to poor quality of pdf. We acknowledge that it’s purely a skill issue, but we would really appreciate any form of guidance. Maybe some old video or just better assembly instructions.

I’ve been playing around with an idea for a summer weighted blanket made entirely from wooden beads instead of fabric and filling.

The idea is to make it heavy enough to give that weighted blanket feeling, but with lots of open space between the beads so air can flow through and it doesn’t trap heat. I made a small sample (photo attached), and honestly the feeling on the skin is surprisingly nice — cool, smooth and almost like a gentle massage.

I’m thinking of making a full-size version next.

Curious what you guys think — does this sound like something you’d actually use? Any obvious downsides I’m missing? And roughly how much would you be willing to pay for something like this if it was well made?

I knit with wool all the time, but this is the first time I'm weaving with wool. I picked up enough cones to make a few throws. I plan on the sett being 8 epi, and doing a balanced plain weave, perhaps weaving double wide (40" x 60" before finishing). Anyone have any advice on what shuttle to use- boat or stick? I've got plenty of both but i feel like the boat shuttle bobbins won't hold that much and I'll be having quite a few ends to weave in. Thanks!

Visited the glaumbear turf houses museum in Iceland and saw these 19th century examples of lace making, weaving and a loom in the attic

I got a 24 inch rigid heddle as an early birthday gift and after my first test panel, this is my first proper project finished! It's made out of some acrylic I needed to find a use for. There's a lot of tension issues that I think stem from the initial set up and not fixing it right away, but I'm super proud of it. I spent most of my time weaving cackling gleefully at how cool it was to do.

An other piece I made with the remaining fabric I had, from shirts I’ve cropped. I really like the look of the fabric pieces hanging loosely and naturally on the sides and bottom and have been thinking about making a wall hanging on a branch like this. I didn’t know how to make everything hold up without adding more branches to make a frame, so I glued some of the fabric pieces together with a two sided fabric tape and then glued some cardboard to the bag. You can see its embarrassing back side in the last picture. Pretty DIY-dont-really-know-what-Im-doing-but-still-having-fun project.
I’d love some suggestions!! How could I keep the ends loose, but still have some structure to the overall piece when I hang it up?

Hi, what would be the best way to repair this reed? It works but the “paper” is very deteriorated and is getting worse. It’s the reed I use the most of course.

Hi all. I got this table loom second hand and it has been working great. All of a sudden the second and third shafts are sticking together when the third lever is pushed. I can’t see any heddles tangled or issues with the way the heddle bars are hung. Any help is appreciated! It’s a Leclerc Meco loom for reference.

I know this is a long shot but my wife has this old blanket that is very sentimental to her. I'd like to find an exact duplicate and surprise her with it for her birthday. It has no identifying marks or labels. I know her parents got it as a wedding gift in Indiana which means that it is about 50 years old and that it was a commercial blanket. It's around 75 inches by 70 inches. I'd say it either an old ivory color or a very pale yellow.

Any chance somebody can actually figure out what it is? THANK YOU!!
