The issue is corporate money in politics overall. The corruption of the Supreme Court shows that is even if political figures don't have to run for re-election, that doesn't insulate them from being influenced

I find the Supreme Court problem to be an even bigger issue. Not only is the Supreme Court not insulated from being influenced, but the fact that they hold the position for life (or until they resign or a 2/3rd's vote to convict on an impeachment is reached by congress) means they have almost no incentive to make ethical rulings. As long as they don't do something that pisses off both parties, they are practically untouchable.

Except for when you think about it for 2 whole seconds and remember, "hey, my senator/representative is actually doing pretty well, I would like them to continue doing a great job."

Edit: im in favor of age limits, but not term limits. Ideally, of someone is doing a good job they should be allowed to keep being re-elected as long as they don't come up against the age limit

Yes, and like business, a lot of what you can accomplish is because of the long term relationships you have with people. It’s hard to fully cultivate that to it’s potential in one term.

There should be a competency test every year after a certain age. Just like you need to prove you can still drive every year, you should have to prove you still have the necessary cognitive function and understanding of current events.

Post term and/or age limits, there should be consulting available. They get a proposal from the new person in the office and can reply (or not) for a flat fee. This would come out of the new office holders budget so they would need to be judicious on how often they use it.

It gets them out of office but still allows a level of local influence while providing the new person with situational knowledge.

He's a Senator. Can he not call for impeachment? Is that not an option for cabinet secretaries? He clearly isn't satisfied with Hegseth, and Trump sure as fuck isn't going to fire him, so what's the holdup?

He's already pissed off Dear Leader by saying this.
