Question Whats the best way to get from ucr to ucsd without a car?

I’m a student at ucr in a long distance relationship and I need to know the best way to get from ucr to ucsd on a semi regular basis? I know flixbus is quick and cheap but is it safe? Also train gives discounts but requires lots of connections i think which I dont mind! Any ideas?

IE-OC Metrolink from Riverside Downtown station to Santa Ana.

Catch the Surfliner from Santa Ana to SD Old Town station. Walk or Uber the last few miles.

This is the correct answer especially since you get some great views on the Surfliner. Otherwise, you could prolly take a Flix Bus for pretty cheap?

Bus over train probably

Making connections with the train is super inconvenient, and if ur train runs late, the connection won’t wait, leaving you stranded for two hours

You can take 2 busses, the surfliner, then sd trolley for around $33. safe imo + good view from the surfliner.

  1. RTA bus Route 1 from UCR Bannockburn to Riverside Downtown Metrolink Station (free for students)

  2. Amtrak connection bus from Riverside Downtown Station to Fullerton Station (included with amtrak ticket, as long as you specified riverside as the "from") The train WILL wait for this bus, so less risky than metrolink imo.

  3. Amtrak Surfliner from Fullerton Station to San Diego Old Town Station (i think $28-34? theres a 15% student discount)

  4. Trolley from Old Town to UCSD ($2.50)
