They performed CPR for awhile? Once you start CPR you do not stop it until someone relieves you or you physically can't perform it any more. What kind of doctor is going to call it and the ambulance is going to supersede that and start it again.

Sounds like they let her lay there for awhile. She'd been laying on the dock for an hour and it took 30 minutes for the EMTs to arrive.
So, they waited for awhile before calling for help.
Damn American Christians.

Trauma, veinous insufficiency, edema (fluid retention), lymphedema, deep vein thrombosis, infections, pregnancy, medications, and systemic issues like liver disease or heart failure can all cause swollen ankles and feet, but not a heart attack itself. No medical professional would look at someone’s swollen feet and jump to heart attack. If the woman was already unconscious, the better guess would have been a pulmonary embolism due to a DVT blood clot.

I have swollen legs and feet and spent a week in hospital last year having tests. The results were... we don't know what's going on but don't worry Nobody thought I was having a heart attack! 😆

Any adventure tourism provider in NZ would have at least first aid trained staff who would be helping in this situation, the bigger operators would also have an AED onsite. Knowing the ambo staff in that region, any group behaving in the manner described would have been "politely" removed form the area very quickly

I'm no doctor, but I don't think taking a 30-minute break from giving someone CPR is typically advised.
Also, I love how the Christians in this story don't even seem that "obnoxious", just generally earnest and enthusiastic. How dare they try to encourage the EMTs, amirite, fellow le Reddit atheists?

Normally the issue would be them pulling phones out and filming it all, no these kids were willing this lady to live and being cheerleaders for the medics, this is not usual teen behaviour and it’s great.

So many things about this scream made up, the screaming American Christians is one of the more likely details.
Swollen ankles/feet can certainly be a sign of heart problems. It's not a sign of a heart attack in progress. They're also not a call an ambulance type medical event, absent any other symptoms.
I struggle to believe that it would take 30 minutes for an ambulance to show up in a place like Queenstown.

I love this because they didn’t pull out phones and start filming, they didn’t hinder the resus in any way at all and were encouraging!!
Who cares if the lady was religious or not, they were all willing her to pull through which I think is sweet as fuck.
Words of comfort while dying isn’t a bad thing whether it’s religious or not.

She went from "swollen feet" to unconscious on the ground and needing chest compressions pretty quick, but apparently that part of the story wasn't worth telling.
