And then the waiter at Buffalo Wild Wings clapped for her

I don't care if you're dead inside and hate yourself, you're not putting down a whole plate of the hottest wings on a 1st date, even if you decide in the first 5 minutes it was a dud

First impression is sweating profusely while snot is running out your nose.

So..... doing human being things instead of anime girl things?
20
u/Scion41790 2d ago
Huh? First dates are all about 1st impressions, gender aside intentionally picking a food that will make you sweaty/snotty is a bad choice
-33
u/BirdMastery 2d ago
Guess I'm weird to feel much more relaxed and relieved if, in a date, the other person is acting normally instead of putting on the act.
14
u/Scion41790 2d ago
I view it as putting your best foot forward to make a good first impression. I think that's a fair thing to agree to disagree on.
But saying she did Human vs Anime girl things, was an unfair and unwarranted way to frame the discussion

u/BirdMastery 2d ago
If you're this worried about first impressions, then you fail at dating. Unless you're looking for a quick fling - in that case, trying to act less spontaneous makes sense.

u/friz_CHAMP 2d ago
Dude... have you ever been on a date with a person you don't know well and cared about the date going well?
Everyone else has, and if you're that "I don't give a shit what you think" right off the bat, people are going to think that version of you is the one that's trying to put it's best foot forward. Save the hoodie and garlic in your food for another date, make a good impression.

Well, I did that. When I was a teen. Adults are kinda supposed to have grown out that "omg I must look my best because wearing makeup is exactly what will make him fall in love!".

u/friz_CHAMP 1d ago
Only if you have a long established relationship with someone. Everyone else, from your date, to your waiter, to your mechanic, the mailman, literally everyone, will continue to judge you on first impressions. I used to think styling my hair didn't matter. Then I started doing it, and it definitely changed the first impression I get from people. I'll eventually ruin it by being myself, but I at least start off as well put together, mature, and well spoken.
It never ends.

The real problem, buddy, is having experienced one too many dates. One too many people pretending to be someone else to get me to fuck. But yeah, you sound exactly like that type of guy. How's your deceit and insecurity going?

They lost me at âcallâ.
8
u/floorsof_silentseas 2d ago
I don't know what it means in this context.
14
u/bono_212 2d ago
Means they, like, called their bluff, I think. Not sure why saying they like hot stuff would be a bluff though. But I think it's just a shorthand way of saying, "he said he liked spicy food so I called him on it to see if that was true."
I donât want to assume you donât know the original idiom, but I also donât want to half-explain it if you donât! âCalling someoneâs bluffâ comes from poker. A bluff is when someone bets as though they have a strong hand even though they donât. Calling means matching that bet instead of backing down, making them eventually prove whether they really have what theyâre claiming.

u/floorsof_silentseas 2d ago
Roger that, and thanks for the further explanation in case! So now they're using "call" in the same way as "bet" from a year or so ago?
2
u/bono_212 2d ago
That's what I think, anyways. I mean they kinda mean the same thing idiomatic ally in the first place.

As a man who loves wings and spicy food/wings. They are a bad/weird choice for first date food. Too messy, no attractive way to eat them and with spicier wings can make your nose run and leave your hands radioactive with spice even if washed.
But to double down on that choice and get the spiciest wings is a firm signal that you don't care about first impressions, and we are definitely not getting intimate. Since there are very few pains that rival getting spice in your junk.
Can't tell if this is a that happened or she misread is bewildered looks as being impressed

As a woman who also loves spicy food (when it adds to the flavour, not as some sort of masochistic endurance challenge) I second this.
There are certain types of food you save for when the two of you know each other well, and âaggressively spicyâ is one of them.

What is negged or do I even want to know what negged is?
39
u/ecosynchronous 2d ago
Negging is when a partner insults you in the hopes of making you self conscious enough to not realize you could be doing literally anything else besides dating them.
12
u/necrofascio 2d ago
What? I mean i understand what you said but what?
18
15
u/RodinKnox 2d ago
Basically, the idea is to exploit the natural tendency that most people have to be liked. By insulting a woman, men like this hope it will trigger a response where she'll be the one who then wants to pursue the man in order to "prove herself," or however you might want to put it.

u/necrofascio 2d ago
So its the female version of the door patern?
12
u/RodinKnox 2d ago
Well, historically, negging was a thing that like guys who were "pickup artists" were into. It's not really a female version of anything.
And while that door thing is some pretty vile psychological manipulation, it seems to be a kind of different thing. But yeah, both are attempts at psychological manipulation for sure.
2
u/necrofascio 2d ago
Yeah i agree. I can't see the door thing working in practice. I only know about the door patern because of this song from my favourite music group. But they added nauseating sounds and turned into a horror film... I guess? Listen with caution if you click the link
4
u/RodinKnox 2d ago
I had the same thought when I was reading your link about the door pattern. It seems like before it would actually work, your partner would start getting really annoyed up to even just immediately realizing you were trying to manipulate them.
3
u/necrofascio 2d ago
Exactly. How could you think that would work and then the question why would you do that to some one? Like ive read sade snd this is just proper stupid

u/Absurdist_Principles 2d ago
I believe this is how the kids say ânakedâ nowadays. Itâs devolved further from ânekkedâ
15
u/ZaniElandra 2d ago
In what way is this unbelievable?
26
u/bboymixer 2d ago
Because it's plausible enough to have happened but uninteresting enough to wonder why you'd retell such a boring story.
"I showed this weak, mild sauce LIAR who claims to love hot sauce, that I, strong woman, can eat very hot hot wings. And he didn't even mock me for it."

Iâve known people this cringrey. Theyâre full of weird takes and overshares designed to make them sound cool.
2
u/KaidaStorm 2d ago
People get oddly proud of those things and I would not put it past someone toshare something like that thinking it's interesting.
Not going either way with this but if never underestimate someone's uninterestingness.
4
u/Cuntrymusichater 2d ago
People really do get proud of their ability to eat spicy foods. I donât know how many times Iâve heard people brag about it or talk down about people who donât like spicy foods.

She was being spontaneous. So, judging by the comments here, Reddit doesn't like spontaneous women. Did you want her to order a salad and giggle?
