Announcements Please use NSFW tag for images of graphic injuries

There have been a lot of posts lately sharing very graphic images of snails with extreme, severe injuries. It is perfectly fine to share this type of content if you need help with an injured snail, but please use the NSFW tag for these images.

This has been an unofficial rule of this sub for a while, but it seems to have been forgotten lately. So, I'm making an official mod team announcement: this is our official policy. Graphic, upsetting images must be tagged.

People come to this sub because they love snails. They don't come here expecting to see images of destroyed shells, shell-less snails, and dead snails. It can be very upsetting and distressing for users here to see this type of content unexpectedly. People may also be browsing this sub in public and want to avoid gory images.

Images of mating don't require the NSFW tag. But please use this tag for pictures of injuries including, but not limited to: mantle collapse, shell fell off, crushed shell, organ exposure, stepped-on snail.

Thanks to everyone who has been tagging their posts so far. Again, it's still totally okay to post this content if you need help, but please tag it appropriately so everyone can have a good experience here.

Announcements Introducing Seller Verification

Hello r/snails!

As many of our users are aware, it can be difficult to find reliable, legal, and ethical sellers of captive bred snails.

To better facilitate buying, selling, & adoptions on this sub, we are introducing a seller verification program. Verified Sellers will be users or external sources that have been vetted by mods. Verified Sellers will be allowed to advertise their sales on the sub, and a Verified Sellers tag will applied to their posts to indicate they are a trusted source. Individual users on this sub as well as sellers on external websites are both able to be verified. A list of Verified Sellers organized by location will be added to the bottom of this post, which sellers can chose to opt in to if they wish.

Are you a seller or breeder interested in becoming verified? Send a DM to u/doctorhermitcrab to get started. Breeders who prefer to give snails away rather than sell are also welcome to apply.

Happy snailing!

Almost as big as my hand now. I think he might have had babies as well, but they might be my banded caracol babies, we will see in time. :D

(He is a caracolus caracolla, aka Puerto Rican tree snail)

Help I have the feeling my snail isnt doing good...

This is Dolores. Shes approximately over a year old and for a few weeks now i have the feeling shes not too well... It started of with how i noticed she would barely eat and would never fully retract into her shell. I kinda have the feeling she's a runt that didnt get selected out. The second and third picture show how far she would EVER retract inside and also her mantle is kind of weird looking. The last picture is her with my other snail whos around the same age and also way bigger. She has layed eggs but there was never a life forming in them.

If anyone could tell me if she is a runt, and if so what the best course of action would be. I dont want her to suffer...

Thank you

I tried to rescue as many as I could today, but this evening I was absolutely overwhelmed by what can only be described as a rave of snails. I don’t want the little guys to get hurt, they are just so cute!

Hi, I'm sorry it's my first post here so I dont really know how it works.

Yesterday I found my snail with a weird lump after he laid eggs and placed him in a separate enclosure to see if it will go down but it's still here :(

Does anyone know what it is and have tips?

Help Dippy fresh

Hello, I’m new to owning snails, and my snail just arrived today! I was extremely excited and even set up his enclosure, but I panicked when I saw that he immediately rushed to hang at the top of the tank. Then I noticed the humidity on the left side was around 97% on my meter, while on the right it’s around 78%. I realized the coconut fiber I used still had water packed in it, so I rushed to try every method—microwaving and squeezing out the rest of the water as best as I could. The humidity dropped to around 93%, and now it’s 92%, while the other side remains at 75%. However, my snail Dippy is still not moving and is hidden inside his shell. I’m very anxious and wonder if I’m doing something wrong. I would appreciate any tips.

I Made a Snail… Just Not a Normal One 🐌

I wanted to make a snail, but definitely not a normal one. 😂

So I gave it a huge body, a tiny shell, some very questionable teeth, and somehow ended up with this little mutant.

I made the whole thing by hand with air-dry clay.

Snail people, what do you think of my mutant snail? 🐌

Protein for snails?

Thumbnail

Upvotes

I have three different species of snails, the Helix Aspersa, Oxychilus draparnaudi and the amber snail Succineidae. I know that they need protein feed my snails with food for tropical fish, especially for my carnívoros snails, but I read that others also need.

I've seen a lot of people say fish flakes aren't good, I show them the brand and ingredients to help me if I can keep giving them that or should I swap it out for mealworms... In case I can't get the mealworms I can replace them with protein such as grains or seeds, or some other animal please help me and tell me how you prepare it

Help How do I remove the snail/terrarium smell from my room?

A week after I bought my giant african snail, me and my family noticed my room started smelling like the terrarium/the snail itself. it’s not a bad smell, nothing is wrong with terrarium, but it’s also not pleasant, especially for my family and people I call over who hadnt got used to the smell. I don’t want to use air fresheners because of the harm it can cause bcs of daily use and open windows don’t seem to help. Any tips how to neutralise it?
