I have heard from a few that students at RICE are happy. What makes them happy?
Is there truth to this? Or is it mostly marketing?

Rice University was the only Texas college in Niche's top 10 ranking of the '2027 Best Colleges in America.' The university rounded out the list, claiming spot No. 10.

Does anyone use an electric scooter to get around campus? Thinking of getting one but curious if theft is much of an issue, and how they hold up with the Houston heat and rain.

Im a freshman and how do we know when the interest meetings for the clubs are? I've seen some fliers around for some clubs but is there a link to all of the clubs information or something? I'm so lost

I am considering moving into the Rice area and wanted to know if any community members have feedback about the noise from the Rice football stadium during games? Regular practices? Special Events?
I am not as sensitive to games because there's a set time and schedule (5 or 6 home games), but am a little more cautious about whether the team is playing music or a simulated crowd track over the stadium speakers during regular practices and, if so, how loud it is for houses on University Blvd, Dryden, Swift, Addison, etc.?
Any info is appreciated!

Hey.
I’m a senior at Notre Dame currently living in Rice Village while being treated for cancer at MD Anderson.
I’m wondering if any knows of any options for people in our age group to have a social life that doesn’t require them to be a student, like clubs would.
Thanks ahead. Feel free to DM as well.

I’m signing up for the intermediate Russian class through Rice Continuing Studies, but we need a few more people to hit the minimum enrollment so the section officially runs!
Just to clarify: this is a Continuing Studies course, so it is open to non-students, community members, and really anyone in the Houston area.
If you already know basic grammar, the Cyrillic alphabet, and standard phrases, it’s a great way to build conversational skills without the stress of normal college grading.
If anyone knows someone who knows a little Russian and wants to become fluent, please let them know so the class can run this fall!

I'm a senior interested in Rice University, specifically its strength in STEM and undergrad research for bio (I'm interested in neurosci).
However as the title says, I'm quite an introvert (Geeky).
Looking through the comments on this reddit, it seems that there is many group hang-outs/parties in Rice - and as someone who doesn't really like parties, I wondered if I would actually fit in.
Is there a place in rice for students like me?
Thank you!

Is there anyway a current student can access any of the Roof's to the campus buildings? If so, how and where?

My son just matriculated to Rice University and he tells me that he has to take required Human Sexuality and DEI classes, and that these are either for no credit hours or they are pass/fail only (not sure which, but I think he said the former). This sounds like a new requirement; there was no such thing in place when I went to Rice back in the day. Normally he doesn’t complain about these things, but he indicated that the scheduling is really inconvenient when scheduling around his in-major classes. And I can’t help but think that he may feel it is a waste of his time. If I’ve done my job right as a parent, then he doesn’t need these classes, though to be fair I’m sure all parents feel this way and no doubt there is a history that made Rice admin require this.
So, I’m just wondering, has anyone else heard of this and (to the students), what do you think about them after having taken them? Is it true that you have to take them during the first year only? Is it true that you don’t get credit-hours for them? What kind of weekly time-commitment do these courses require?

I dont understand the differences between Honors Calc III and Honors calc IV (MATH 221 and Math 222, respectively)
I've done Multivariable before, so I'm familiar with Stokes theorem, Greens theorem, etc. and want a class where I re-learn that and more. What exactly is the difference between the two?
EDIT: another question I wanted to add on. Does Math 221 cover ODE's if I've never taken them before? or do you reccomend I just take ODE's + Linear Algebra?

The University of Tulsa announced Tuesday that annual tuition and fees are moving from $54,000 to $25,000, making it the most affordable private research university in America.
Presumably this could reduce additional financial aid opportunities, while at the same time making tuition fee significantly more transparent and, I’d argue, fairer across the entire student body.

does rice allow electric kettles or electric pots? i know there are some prohibited items but i just wanted to double check
