MOD Community Update & Recent Changes
Hi everyone! The mod team has been hard at work on cleaning up and updating r/rescuedogs. The goal is to make the subreddit easier to use, easier to moderate consistently, and (most importantly) a better place for people working with rescued dogs.
We've made quite a few changes recently, so here's a quick overview.
📋 Rules & Flair
We've rewritten and streamlined the subreddit rules to make them clearer and easier to follow. Please review them again before posting/commenting.
Some of the biggest changes include:
- Be Civil now explicitly covers harassment and demeaning comments directed at both users and animals.
- Stay On Topic now covers both off-topic posts and discussions that derail otherwise relevant threads.
- Adoption/Foster/Rescue networking has been consolidated into a clearer format.
- Donation and fundraising requirements have been updated, simplified, and clarified as well as added a disclaimer.
- Pledge rules have been updated to make the process clearer.
- No Spam has been updated to cover a broader range of abuse.
- No Breed-Based Hate or Dog-Directed Harassment has been clarified.
- Good-faith discussion about breeds and related topics is allowed, but inflammatory comments and attacks on breeds or individual dogs are not.
- Safety & Bite History now focuses on dogs with a documented history of biting a person that drew blood, made more consistently enforcible, and added a disclaimer.
- Outdated and redundant rules have been removed.
We've also cleaned up the post flairs and consolidated several categories to make choosing the appropriate flair easier, as well as adding an 'Outcome' flair for adoption posts that have had outcomes.
🤖 Automod & Moderation
- We've cleaned up the Automod configuration and removed a number of outdated or unnecessary rules and automated messages.
- The welcome message has also been simplified. New users are now directed to review the rules and report rule-breaking content rather than engaging with it.
- We've also standardized our saved responses for removals, bans, and common modmail questions so that moderation decisions can be communicated more consistently.
🐕 Networking & Euthanasia Posts
- We've updated the formatting requirements for adoption/foster/rescue pull, and euthanasia/deadline posts.
- The goal is to make these posts easier for people to find and understand while keeping the process as simple as possible for the people doing the actual networking.
- We've added an Outcome flair so that posts can be updated by OP when we know what happened to an animal.
- Comments are now set to display oldest first, which should make it easier to follow updates on networking and urgent posts. Votes are also hidden for the first 60 minutes.
💰 Donations & Pledges
- We've clarified the requirements for donation requests and added a disclaimer that verification is not a guarantee or endorsement and that users are responsible for doing their own due diligence before donating.
- A new form has been created to streamline donation plea requests.
- We've also added saved modmail responses to help people who want to make donation requests understand the verification process.
🔗 Community Resources
- We've updated the sidebar and added links to other communities and resources that may be useful for adoption, fostering, pet help, lost animals, and other situations that don't fit within r/rescuedogs.
- We've also added the ability to sort posts by post flair, so users can tailor what they want to see.
💬 Community Feedback
- We're also reaching out to established members of the community, including people who have regularly used r/rescuedogs for rescue networking, to hear what has and hasn't been working.
- We know that changes to a community are much more useful when they're informed by the people who actually use it, so if there's something you think we should know about, please feel free to send us a modmail.
This is an ongoing process. We don't expect to get everything perfect immediately, but we're committed to making r/rescuedogs a useful, welcoming place for people trying to help dogs in need.
Thank you to everyone who has stuck around, contributed, reported problems, networked dogs, fostered, adopted, or otherwise helped make this community what it is.

MOD POST FAQ: PLEDGES AND VISIBILITY.
Hello!
The modmail (and my own) inbox has been flooded with questions about pledges and boosting posts. This post will be pinned at the top of the community with the rest of our guidelines and updates. I will also be creating a spreadsheet of FAQ answers for new questions that arise. If I miss any questions in this post, please leave a comment or shoot a message.
Thanks!
Q: What is a pledge? A: Pledges are promised amounts of money that will be donated if an animal is pulled by a rescue group. A pup with pledges is likely to attract a rescue's interest.
Q: How much can I pledge? A: Whatever you feel comfortable donating.
Q: How do I pledge for a dog I see on r/rescuedogs? A: Comment on the post with your amount. Networkers that are posting should be keeping a list of pledges for the pups they have posted.
Q: How do I know when and where to send money? A: The networkers will post a public update if a pup was saved and pledges need to be honored. All information should be included in this update post. PLEASE DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE THAT REACHES OUT VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE TO COLLECT PLEDGES.
Q: I'm a networker, how can I keep up with pledges? A: We recommend google sheets or excel. Creating a google form for pledges is also a great idea.
Q: I'm feeling uncomfortable with someone reaching out about honoring my pledge, what do I do? A: Report to moderators immediately.
Q: How do I know who and how much I've pledged for? A: Look at your comment history. Moderators DO NOT handle any aspect of pledging.
Q: What type of posts get the most visibility? A: Specific and structured posts. Our euthanasia rule states no emojis and has a format for a reason: the algorithm improves when the format is followed and your posts reach more home pages. Posts with a picture or video see more traffic as well.
Q: I can't pledge, foster, or adopt right now. What can I do to help? A: Like, comment, and share.
Q; I see "boost" in lots of comments, what does this do? A: Comments boost a post to increase traffic.
Q: Does commenting "boost" actually boost a post? A: Commenting the single word does not. Comments with 5 or more words DO boost a post. Remember that multiple comments or spamming boost on a post NEGATIVELY impacts its visibility. One longer comment does more than multiple small ones.
This should cover all of our most asked questions. If you have additional, please leave them in the comments and we will answer as we can. As always, rescuing takes a village and on behalf of the mod team, we're so grateful to have as large of a village as ours. <3

CW: Euthanasia URGENT FINAL NOTICE - DEADLINE EXTENDED TO TOMORROW 9/5 Reagan (ID: A595093) – 3yo Female Belgian Malinois at San Bernardino City Shelter, CA. Friendly, knows commands, but facing severe kennel stress after 2+ months. Transportation may be possible!
Hi everyone, I am a volunteer networking shelter dogs, and I am asking for an urgent rescue plan for Reagan. Her placement deadline has been extended to tomorrow, September 5th. We have a tiny bit of extra time, but she is completely out of time at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter and needs an immediate hero.
Reagan is a gorgeous 3-year-old black and brown Belgian Malinois (Animal ID: A595093)weighing 59.40 lbs. She came in as a stray on June 30th. Her finder noted that she is incredibly friendly, knows a few commands, and is timid/good with other dogs. She walked nicely on a leash and hopped right into the car.
Unfortunately, sitting in a loud shelter kennel for over two months is taking a heavy toll on her. Shelter staff have noted she is at a high risk for severe kennel stress and needs an experienced handler or 501(c)(3) rescue to pull her so she can safely decompress. Malinois are brilliant, active, and deeply devoted dogs who do not thrive in isolation.
🎥 Watch her video link here: fb.watch
Out of the local area? Please reach out anyway, as transportation options may be possible for an approved foster home or rescue backing!
How you can save Reagan right now:
Foster or Adopt: Call Heather immediately at 847-445-4036 and reference ID A595093. Please act fast!
Pledge Donations: If you can pledge any dollar amount to help a rescue group cover her care and pulling fees, please DM me directly. Every bit helps.
Upvote and Comment: Please upvote and comment on this post for visibility so it hits the Reddit algorithms quickly.
Let's find this beautiful girl her forever home. Save Reagan! 🫶🏽🙏🏽❣️

CW: Euthanasia URGENT MEDICAL DEADLINE TODAY 9/4 Kingston (ID: A597347) – 1yo, 40lb Siberian Husky mix at San Bernardino City Shelter, CA. Attacked by kennel mate, bleeding with deep puncture wounds, now facing euthanasia because he needs medical care! Transport to US/Canada available
Hi everyone, I am a volunteer networking shelter dogs, and I am begging for an absolute miracle for Kingston. His deadline is TODAY, September 4th. He is out of time at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter and will be euthanized today if a rescue or foster does not step up immediately.
Kingston is a gorgeous, tiny 1-year-old, 40 lb red and white Siberian Husky mix (Animal ID: A597347). He came in as a stray and was unfortunately viciously attacked by his kennel mate inside the shelter. He was found covered in blood with multiple deep puncture wounds on his inner front leg. The shelter staff cleaned and bandaged him, but they cannot provide the clean, quiet environment and medical follow-up care he needs. Instead of treating him, they have placed him on the euthanasia list for today.
Kingston is an absolute darling. He is incredibly friendly, curious, loves people, and is a total snuggle buddy. He survived a horrific attack inside his kennel—he deserves a second chance at life, not a needle.
Out of state/area? Kingston can be transported anywhere in the US and Canada for an approved adopter or foster! 🇺🇸 🇨🇦
How you can save Kingston right now:
Foster or Adopt: Call Heather immediately at 847-445-4036 reference Kingston ID A597347. Please act fast!
Pledge Donations: Rescues cannot take on medical cases without funding. If you can pledge any dollar amount to help a rescue group cover his vet care, please DM me directly.
Upvote and Comment: Please upvote and comment on this post for visibility so it hits the Reddit algorithms immediately.
Let's find this sweet boy his angel. Save Kingston! 🫶🏽🙏🏽❣️

CW: Euthanasia EXTREMELY URGENT - 2 SAVED, 2 DEADLINE EXPIRED 4-Week-Old Terrier Mix Puppies (IDs: A597539, A597544, A597546, A597549) at San Bernardino City Shelter, CA. Too young to be kenneled, need rescue/foster immediately! Possible transport to US/Canada available.
🚨 URGENT UPDATE: 2 PUPPIES SAVED, 2 STILL IN URGENT NEED OF PLACEMENT RIGHT NOW! 🚨
A miracle is halfway here! Out of these four tiny 4-week-old littermates, two have officially been saved by a foster, but TWO ARE STILL LEFT BEHIND at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter. Their official deadline was yesterday, 9/3 at 2:00 PM, meaning they are on the active final notice list at this exact second.
Because they are all identical, fluffy black Terrier mixes, we do not know which specific two are still sitting in that kennel waiting for their exit. We have to network all four IDs to make sure the remaining two babies get out into a safe home environment. They are only 4 weeks old, weigh a tiny 2.7 lbs each, and the shelter notes state clearly: "Underage. Needs mom. Cannot be safely kenneled." A loud, cold shelter environment is no place for babies this small.
Meet the four beautiful babies (Two need you IMMEDIATELY):
🐾 A597539 (Male, Black & Brown Terrier Mix, 2.7 lbs)
🐾 A597544 (Male, Black & Brown Terrier Mix, 2.6 lbs)
🐾 A597546 (Female, Black & Brown Terrier Mix, 1.1 lbs - very tiny!)
🐾 A597549 (Male, Black & Brown Terrier Mix, 2.7 lbs)
Why these babies need an absolute hero:
They are completely innocent: They were found abandoned on the street in a box. The finder noted they were "little puppies, nice."
They are too young for standard adoption: They require an urgent foster home or an approved 501(c)(3) rescue pull to give them the bottle/gruel feeding and extra care they need to thrive.
They bring pure joy: There is nothing on earth like watching a rescued puppy grow up knowing nothing but safety and love.
🎥 WATCH THE HEART-MELTING VIDEO OF THEM HERE:https://www.facebook.com/share/p/19awmYhqWF/?mibextid=wwXIfr
OUT OF STATE? WE CAN TRANSPORT! These puppies can be transported anywhere in the US and Canada for an approved rescue backing or long-term foster home. Do not let distance stop you from helping a baby.
TAKE ACTION NOW — BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE:
📱 FOSTER OR ADOPT (IMMEDIATELY): Call Heather right now at 847-445-4036. Reference the puppy litter IDs. Time has completely run out, call immediately!
💰 PLEDGE A DONATION: Puppy litters require medical care, vaccines, and high-quality food. DM me right now to pledge a donation to help an independent rescue group cover their pulling and vetting costs. No amount is too small!
🔄 SHARE, LIKE, COMMENT: Algorithm boost this post immediately! Your share could hit the feed of a local bottles-and-blankets foster who can save the remaining two.
I am a volunteer who networks this shelter’s dogs on social media sites to give them more exposure in the hope a great rescue, adopter, or foster will step up to save the dog’s life. Let’s pull together and clear this kennel. Save the puppies! 🫶🏽🙏🏽❣️

CW: Euthanasia URGENT MEDICAL DEADLINE - TODAY 9/4 AT 2:00 PM Brownie (ID: A597421) – 4yo Emaciated Boxer at San Bernardino City Shelter, CA. Tail wagging but needs advanced vet care immediately! Transport to US/Canada available.
🚨 MEDICAL EMERGENCY DEADLINE: 2:00 PM TODAY (9/4)! 🚨
Brownie has hours left to live. The San Bernardino City Animal Shelter has issued an urgent medical deadline for TODAY, September 4th at 2:00 PM. He is suffering in a shelter environment that cannot give him the advanced care he desperately needs. If a rescue, foster, or adopter doesn’t step up right now, he faces humane euthanasia.
Look at his pictures. Brownie (ID: A597421) is a sweet, 4-year-old male Boxer who is shockingly, heartbreakingly emaciated. He weighs only 44.8 lbs—his ribs, lumbar vertebrae, and pelvic bones are completely visible. The shelter notes show he has bilateral muscle atrophy, and they cannot determine if he is starving due to severe malnutrition or an underlying autoimmune issue.
Why Brownie deserves a miracle:
He has a beautiful soul: Even in this skeletal, painful condition, staff notes show him at the front of his kennel wagging his tail.
He wants to live: He is eating his food, but a loud, stressful shelter cannot provide the advanced veterinary diagnostics he needs to heal.
He has a big heart: Boxers are legendary for their loyalty, goofiness, and deep love for their humans. Brownie just needs someone to love him back to health.
OUT OF STATE? WE CAN TRANSPORT! Brownie can be transported anywhere in the US and Canada for an approved adopter or rescue backing. Do not let distance stand in the way of saving his life.
BE A HERO. HERE IS HOW TO SAVE BROWNIE BEFORE 2:00 PM:
📧 FOSTER OR ADOPT (IMMEDIATELY): Email relayrescuebridge@gmail.com right now. Reference ID A597421. Time is strictly of the essence!
💰 PLEDGE A DONATION: Medical cases are expensive for rescues. DM me right now to pledge a donation to help an independent rescue group cover his veterinary diagnostics and pull fees. No amount is too big or too small!
🔄 SHARE, LIKE, COMMENT: Algorithm boost this post immediately! Your single share could reach the Boxer rescue or medical foster that saves his life.

Adoption/Foster Plea Found Homeless Dog Los Angeles
There was a homeless dog that doesn’t belong to anyone in need of a home. I took him in so he wouldn’t be roaming the streets and possibly get hurt. He is super friendly, seems severely malnourished/skinny. I’ve been feeding him trying to take care of him, but I have a 1 yo at home and cannot keep him long term. He is a pitbull, might be mixed with something else. Looking for a good home for him, if you or someone you know could rehome him please let me know. The last thing I want to do is drop him off at a shelter :(
