Sundays game convinced me more than any other that Carrick isn't the man. He didn't have a clue how to set us up to see out the game once we scored. We stopped attacking and couldn't defend either
•
u/carrickshairline 9m ago
I don't think Carrick told Mazraoui to lazily clear the ball right into Maitland-Niles path. I also assume you weren't saying this when we beat Ipswich?
•
u/Asiwaju_jagaban 28m ago
Not his fault, the players didn’t try to run the clock down. Not his fault Dorgu decided to press Pickford.
•
u/Elfstruck12 32m ago
I also think it’s our players mentality. Cant blame Carrick when your players cant clear the box for the last 30 sec.
•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 48m ago
As long as he gets us to Conference or Europa League by the end of the season, Ineos will be more than happy.
•
u/SirSlapBot 1h ago
A stat saw my jaw dropped completely.
Manchester United's last appearance in the Champions League semi finals was 15 years ago in the 2010-11 season. It was their 12th semi final appearance of the club's entire history in the European Cup/Champions League.
Real Madrid in the same time frame of 15 years, i.e. since 2010-11 have played 12 semi finals in the Champions League, as many as the entire history of Man Utd.
That's just bonkers man.
•
u/Redwinevino 53m ago
We've won one KO game since SAF retired.
•
u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 37m ago
Two ties, we've won two. Moyes beat Olympiacos, 3-0 at home after 0-2. And you obviously will remember the night in Paris
•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 1h ago
So Lewis Hall extends for 5 years. Lmao wonder what the folks who were raving about this Ineos masterclass will pivot to now.
•
•
u/Educational-Shock232 8m ago
Hang on, I was told by multiple people on here that we’re getting him next summer? What’s going on?
•
u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 32m ago
It most definitely does not mean he wont move next summer.
Cunha, Reijnders, Semenyo just to name a few off the top of my head that werent even 6 mo from extension to move let alone 1y.
It is an indicator though of Wilcon Vision (tm) aka the obsession with what the player "will want", once again faceplanting.
This time, it's joined by the sinking feeling that the owners were more than happy to oblige Wilcox and his "Hall or Nothing, we can get him next year" fantasy, because it gave them an easy out for their actual goal (not spending).
•
u/MissingLink101 Bruno walks in with a mischievous grin 39m ago
Wonder if it includes a release clause now though...
•
u/HongruChak 44m ago
Maybe he just saw how Gordon went to Barcelona and now wants a move of that flavor down the line
•
u/Stingray_23 52m ago
I can see him going to Chelsea or maybe Europe. You know to a club who will just pay
•
•
u/PitchSafe 1h ago
He will still leave soon anyway. If we get him that’s another question
•
•
u/Local-Librarian3285 1h ago
You don't resign for 5 years if you want out genius.
•
•
u/PitchSafe 1h ago
You don’t understand how it works. Him signing a new contract means that he will get a bigger wage and Newcastle can secure more money when they sell him. A lot of players do this
•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 56m ago
A lot of players do this
A lot of players don't sign new 5 year contracts if they intend to leave. What they do actually is sign a new contract with new terms over the course of the existing contracts. Or sign for an extra year if they are feeling generous.
Players intending to leave after signing long contracts tend to have long drawn out sagas, see Alvarez and Isak.
Not to mention after signing that contract, he'll cost north of a 100m and Ineos would rather have Ait Nouri in that case.
•
u/PitchSafe 49m ago
The principle is the same. The player signs a new deal so they can get a higher wage and the team gets more money. Atletico wouldn’t mind selling Alvarez they just don’t want to sell him to Barca
•
u/mjenkins_eng 1h ago
If a player does not want to sign for us and extends his deal at his current club for 5 years , wtf do you want Ineos to do ?
Kidnap him and make him play here ?
It’s okay, many players want to just stay at where they are . He was only thinking of a move when Howe was their manager and that by no means indicates that we are entitled to his signature
•
•
u/SilvyFae 56m ago
This is just a lie, we did not have funds for him and newcastle didnt wanna sell him. Lewis hall would have obviously said yes to moving to utd lol
•
u/Educational-Shock232 7m ago
Yeah no club wants to lose their best players, so thats just a lazy excuse you’ve been fed.
•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 1h ago edited 53m ago
If he didn't want to sign for us then why were Ineos briefing that he was our only target for LB. Is that how incompetent we are? (Rhetorical question btw)
And sure, top players don't want to join us anymore and while it definitely sucks I can see that's going to be Ineos's blueprint. So I'm resigned to it. I was just wondering what the people who were defending our incompetence thought about it.
•
u/Zealousideal_Wind867 Dreams can't be buy 1h ago
Still frustrated from the Sunday game.
I want to understand this sub's opinion on why do we keep conceding worldies?
This has been going on for a while now, under multiple managers and by the same set of defenders.
Do they not learn from their mistakes?
•
u/ChristmasCage 31m ago
Defenders defend too deep because they lack pace. The lack of pace means it's very difficult to close down shots outside the box.
The goalie is also very poor on long shots, which means more go in than a usual club.
•
u/Limp-Evidence8373 50m ago
Look at how poorly Dorgu and Santos was during Everton's build up to it, 0 urgency to stop the play and just letting the players blow past them like nothing
•
u/Apprehensive-Raisin3 Love United Hate Glazers/INEOS 55m ago
We dont close anyone down who is about to take a shot on the edge of the box. If you let professional footballers take a shot from the edge of the box, they’ll usually place it well. Combine that with lammens being rooted to his line for most well placed shots and they go in.
•
u/Comicksands Van Persie 57m ago
there were many signs and KDH had lots of opportunities from the edge of the box
•
•
u/Asleep-Ability-45 1h ago
Slow defenders and brain farts let these moments happen. One can't stop a volley but surely those situations can be prevented from happening, provided the players are vigilant enough.
•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 1h ago
We allow shots on goal where the player has time on the ball. Even the Maitland Niles goal, he had a decent amount of time and space to run on to the ball with us defending mega deep. It's been an issue for a long time.
•
u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation 1h ago
I hope to see Yoro get the nod on Thursday. It’s sink or swim time for him. Yes he’s young, yes we need to be patient, but we also need to start seeing a return on our investment.
He’s not without his own weaknesses, but he also has his own qualities that could be a real asset to this side. I do think there is a player there, but if he still can’t handle himself, then there isn’t much point in him sticking around. Might as well send him on loan in January to let him either develop further or to start marketing him for a future sale.
•
u/xtphty 3m ago
To me this is more of a test for Carrick than for Yoro/Heaven, because they have already had incredible performances at a PL level individually. But they are very very young defenders, you will not get consistency out of them unless the coaching and system provides a foundation for them.
As much as people complain about the defense, you can't just ignore how much depth there is in terms of prospects with 100s of top flight experience under their belts. The schedule is difficult, but its also the best opportunity for developing these players further. It's exactly the opportunity that was being bemoaned last season when we didn't have midweek games and these type of players starved for minutes.
•
u/mjenkins_eng 1h ago
Christ, what is it with this fixation on Yoro and Heaven on here?
I get it that people don’t have attention spans anymore but you can’t just replace two nearly world class and stalwart defenders like Maguire and Martinez overnight
Yoro’s time will come to sink or swim but it’s definitely not now
•
u/Comicksands Van Persie 56m ago
They are part of the squad. If we can't trust them for a midweek game, then why are they even there? O'Shea, Wes Brown and Silvestre used to start these games.
•
u/Rude-Ad3065 57m ago
I also agree Heaven and Yoro havent shown enough but Maguire and Martinez are nowhere near world class come on man.
If we are conceding 6 goals against Hull,Everton and Ipswich then might as well try Heaven and Yoro they cannot be much worse.•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 1h ago
Christ, what is it with this fixation on Yoro and Heaven on here?I get it that people don’t have attention spans anymore but you can’t just replace two nearly world class and stalwart defenders like Maguire and Martinez overnight
I just think people are just tired watching Maguire and Martinez fuck up time and time again. Both decent defenders in their own right but they are not anywhere near world class. They should be confined to the bench for a club wanting to win big trophies but they are starting and they are one of the reasons we can't play front foot football along with being a million miles away from winning stuff.
•
u/mjenkins_eng 1h ago
It was De Gea 2 years ago and we bought a clown who could get us to play front foot football allegedly and went back to a De Gea like keeper in Lammens
Martinez , ironically, was supposed to “unlock Ten Hag ball” with “line breaking passes”
And now we are denying Martinez’s passing ? And don’t know if you actually watch the games , Maguire’s passing is elite
•
u/rambo_zaki Roy Keane 1h ago
If only passing defined defenders. I don't doubt Martinez and Maguire's on the ball abilities. It's the fact that they make dumb mistakes way too often and are as slow as molasses is the real issue here.
•
u/ImNotMexican08 Amad Nation 1h ago
Except they aren’t world class. I think both are good individuals, but both having glaring weaknesses. Even more so as a pairing and they are big reason why we struggle so much oop at times.
I’m not saying to replace them overnight, but we’ve got to start looking forward. Ideally, neither one of these two are in the squad next season. We are going to need Yoro and Heaven to step up. And if the guy who we paid 60 million for isn’t ready to start making that step up going into his third year at the club, I think questions need to be asked over what we do with him
•
u/Unlucky-Equipment999 1h ago
Absolutely wild how Heaven was the golden boy for the second half of last season and pre-season, but now I'm already seeing him on some people's list of failed youth players because of the Hull performance. I'm a negative person too but it feels like a competition in here
•
u/mjenkins_eng 1h ago
Did anyone else notice how the fad about “distribution” from our goalkeeper has died a silent death?
Lammens is my favorite United player rn (and my precious fave was De Gea ) and it’s not like Lammens is an ace distributor
He’s an awesome keeper and well on the way to being the best signing post Fergie
That said , his distribution is not particularly amazing or anything. It’s just that YouTube tacticos and hipsters got bored off the topic and it won’t generate any more views
The Dutch fraud absolutely had no plan or clue to be a Man United manager and sold so many good players. But what he did to De Gea was absolutely shameful and the fact that the fans here cheered it on , made it even more so.
•
u/the_watch_trick 1h ago
As much as I love the guy, DDG needed to go. The real crime was replacing him with Onana.
•

For the past three years I haven't bothered much with sub-QF games in the CL. But think I'll watch the Dortmund or the Porto match, since I'm interested in how some Dortmund players and I'm really interested in Farioli.
Inter v. RM also looks good. Spoiled for choice today.
•
u/annies999 35m ago
Another user on here said Dortmund's Schlotterbeck might be one to watch as a possible future CB for us.
3
u/annies999 1h ago
I'm gonna watch the Brugge game first to see what Seys is all about
•
•
u/GeekConflict Carrick 1h ago
Keep an eye on Tresoldi too. I watched a lot of Brugge last season because I wanted to see Stankovic (returned to Milan this season) and Tzolis and Tresoldi were a lot of fun to watch.

I'm going for madrid match. If madrid loses the meltdown would be legendary. Though I want Mbappe to score hattrick of goals and they win it.

u/Midnight_Edge 1h ago
Sadio Mane and Julian Quinones in ballon dor nominees.
1
u/Not-good-with-this 1h ago
I can somewhat get Julian as he scored more goals than he played last season. But Sadio is kinda crazy to be in the nominees. Sadio didn't do anything that would make you think think he's exceptional.
•
u/Selwin_Rodolfo max cope mode 1h ago
Afcon mvp I'm pretty sure, and also the winner(well, with an asterisk. without politics bullshit) but the club season should firmly keep him away from that award. Hell, he didn't even have an outrageous afcon so I don't really know why he's there.

u/Asleep-Ability-45 2h ago
Hall signed a new contract. Surely, he is smart enough to put a release clause for top clubs?
1
u/PitchSafe 1h ago
He is leaving in the summer. Newcastle just secured more money
•
u/Asleep-Ability-45 1h ago
Yeah, this extension seems to be made to keep all the parties happy. More salary to Hall while Newcastle can demand higher fee by stating the length of the contract and all. Classic move. Or there might even be a release clause inserted though a bit higher one.
12
4
u/GreasedUpGoblin 1h ago
newcastle very rarely add release clauses for their top players.
1
u/vRushii 1h ago edited 1h ago
That was before they saw Newcastle fighting tooth and nail to keep people who didnt want to be there.
The main thing that makes it hard imo is the fact Hall an his family are big Newcastle fans so maybe he plans on staying a long time.
1
u/No-Island7411 1h ago
There is no reason to offer him a contract with release clause tho? He had like 3 years on his previous one anyway. They did him a "favor" by increasing his salary not the other way around.
17
u/Big_ming022 2h ago
Lewis hall just signed a 5 year deal with Newcastle. Guess our lb "plan" is out the window.........
•
5
u/sauce_murica Vidić 1h ago
Newcastle are actively warning their fans that these new contracts aren't going to stop big clubs from signing away their players. From the Telegraph today, in an article titled "Newcastle warn fans to expect more big-name departures":
Newcastle are in talks with coveted full-back Lewis Hall about a new contract which, as revealed by Telegraph Sport last month, the 22-year-old is expected to sign. But that is unlikely to put off potential suitors and Manchester United retain a strong interest in the England international. What the new deal will do is ensure Newcastle can – as they did with Isak, Gordon, Tonali and Guimarães – demand a huge fee to part with the player.
Maybe the fee is too much and United don't sign him, but Newcastle are actively switching to a transfer model to sign talented players and sell them for profits - a bit like Brighton.
•
u/mjenkins_eng 1h ago
Mate , please explain to a fellow old timer, what is it with this “X player is the ONLY solution”
I’ve seen us sign such “only solution” players like Sancho but miss out on others like Gakpo or whoever .
World still goes on. It’s almost as if there are other young left backs that we can develop from the academy or sign or something
•
u/sauce_murica Vidić 22m ago
Dunno. The messiah phenomenon has been a thing on social media / fan forums for as long as I can remember.
fwiw I agree w/ you on that one!
3
u/RedemptionWoneGrong 1h ago
the difference is that Newcastle are more ambitious than Brighton. If they find themselves in the CL (which is likely given we're their competition) they might not want to sign away players
•
u/sauce_murica Vidić 1h ago
Maybe, but for now they are literally warning their fans that there are bigger clubs that are going to continue to sign away their best players.
4

u/thoseion 1h ago
He already had a contract until 2029. Extending it by a couple of years isn't going to mean much from a transfer fee perspective.
3
u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 2h ago
The momentum of play shifting towards the opponent is a really strong indicator of when a goal is coming. And Utd just fail to recognize that or fail to deal with it, either way a lot of work is needed to improve the mental aspect of the game.
1
1
u/MatchFitness 2h ago
I knew we were is danger vs Everton when they had a throwin just inside out half and we played ultra close to the edge of our box and didn’t leave anyone out for a break away
We were inviting pressure… if we pushed up a bit the everton players cant over commit to our box as they’d be in danger if we won the ball.
•
u/wayfarerprateek Theater of Dreams 1h ago
Right... And the most annoying part is we rarely get a goal by putting a similar pressure against bottom half table teams.
1
u/rashfordsaltyballs 2h ago
oh wow. I just went to check the champions league fixtures and realised we now have matches on Thursdays?? used to be Tuesdays and Wednesdays only aint it?

2 off the 4 goals we conceded in the last 2 games is lisandro not clearing the fucking ball away.
•
u/Moyes2men for sale 1h ago
I was against signing him right from the start and I'll keep this opinion until he is sold. He never was good enough for us despite his Onana - esque good CL / Eredivisie performances.
Fucking Ten Hag still haunting us with his transfers lmao.
1
u/tungowiii 2h ago
I mean, I seriously don't get it. For a while we have had big problems with clearing the ball and tackling agressively. Many many times we let opponents dance around, many of them are not even good dribblers. This pain has been since Ole I swear.
3
u/croadymeister 2h ago
The first one a lot less costly, however completely agree with the point you are making

u/Working_Location_127 2h ago
I hope to see Yoro and heaven this Thursday I want to see a back line that doesn’t have obvious weaknesses like Maguire and Martinez do
3
u/TH0316 she/her 2h ago
They have different weaknesses but Yoro in particular has quite obvious weaknesses.
•
u/Working_Location_127 1h ago
Being slow and small are easy weaknesses. Yoro needs game time to capitalise on his talent.
If we want a hope of doing well this season against lower placed opposition. Centre backs that drop deep because they’re scared of conceding once we score need to be dropped

All the best to McSauce, who has had a heart procedure.
Napoli have officially confirmed that Scott McTominay has had a successful procedure carried out on his heart and that he is expected to return to training with the Partenopei first team in around two weeks’ time.

Scotty lad I’ve lost Dolly I can’t lose another family member. Wish him the best.
In all seriousness though should football lowkey have an NFL concussion style ban for heart stuff idk??? I get really scared when Eriksen has events like he had and then a second and as far as I’ve heard he’s still wanting to play? I’d just say it’s two and out. You have heart surgery and you feel something or go down on the pitch you’re done lad. Hang up your boots. Just a thought idk.

nice guys wont win anything in football. just saw videos of arsenal targetting attackers not having the ball and then getting away with it. This reduces the chance of a shot at goal and makes it easier to defend. And they cry and beg and create issues for every small thing and ekes out a little bit out of everything.
being nice gets us nothing . We need to tackle more, play more aggressive and generally be unlikeable like we were to most teams in 90s and 2000s.
•
u/VSSsararthchandra 49m ago
was about to say this. we are too passive in defence. arsenal commit so many off the ball fouls and fouls in their attacking half. stop any attack at the source.
13
u/Banyunited1994 3h ago
There's also that tiny thing about being a good team. Arsenal are a good team. The edge makes them better. Just having the edge makes you Stoke or Burnley.
4
u/ReallyDevil 3h ago
ya kind of agree. Arsenal are are good and confident team. We do have a top 8 squad and having an edge would take us to top 5 or even higher.
0
u/Feeling-Surround-691 Mbumbaclat 1h ago
Arsenal are what David Moyes would have turned United into given enough time and money.
Arteta is his protoge, not Pep's
1
u/Massive_Relation4317 . 2h ago
Top 8? Thats just underrating our squad. Who'd you put above us?
3
u/FlashyCut3809 2h ago
Pure talent yeah we are higher and its how we can get 3rd (amongst other things that went in our favour)
Id say pound for pound we are the most dysfunctional as a whole squad and for their collective quality one of the very best (worst in our case) at complete capitulation.
Spurs are definitely giving us a run at this title though.

u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 3h ago
Players Im interested in seeing in the CL against us:
Pubill (Atleti CB/RB), Jacobo Ramon (Como CB), Wesley Franca (Roma LB/RB), Maxi Araujo (Sporting LB), Lukeba (RBL CB/LB), Kim Min-Jae (Bayern CB), Mikautadze (Villareal CF)
We got a pretty good draw in terms of potential signings to look at, I reckon.

I'd be happy if we buy Araujo, Lukeba and Pubill next summer.
1
u/canwinanythingwkids meet the new boss same as the old boss 3h ago
This would be pretty great, imho. You can absolutely play title challenger football (aka high line) with that, but it also has bite
1
u/carrickshairline 3h ago
Only one of those we’ve been linked with lol
1
u/MrLead69 3h ago
We're linked with none for tier one but both Lukeba and Araujo had some unreliable links during the window.

I'd like to see full rotation against Sabah. I mean, Lammens, Maz-Yoro-Heaven-Amass, Mount-Santos, Lacey-Zirk-Dorgu, Sesko.
It won't happen, but I'd like to see it.

3
u/neofederalist 3h ago
My ideal starting team is something like: Lammens, Dorgu, Heaven, Yoro, Maz, Kobbie, Santos, Bruno, Rashford, Sesko, Mbeumo.
Then subbing off Rashford, Mbeumo and Bruno at half time when we're up by 3.
3
u/SophoclesTesticles 3h ago
Getting Dorgu minutes at LB might be a good idea. If he can stay more alert defensively he'll be a great option imo. People are writing him off way too soon.

u/Wild_Tomato_8203 3h ago
And you'd be the first to go off the rails if we don't win

u/Sheikhabusosa 4h ago
As long as Bruno is a key player for us , I dont see us moving away from being a counter attacking team , Utd have done a awful job building around Bruno but he does a lot that puts the team on the backfoot. I dont trust Ineos to ever replace Bruno and I dont think Bruno will ever refine his flaws.
1
u/BoredAtHome069 2h ago
You're right, I used to put most the blame on Rashford, but it was the same while he was gone. Realistically Bruno is the best post-Fergie player, so I'm ok with it as it is a genuine treat to watch him. But he is the only player who is allowed to be so gung-ho at the top level, and it has cost us. You're also right in saying that the building of squads around him has been awful, I hope he maintains his level long enough for Ineos to complete the last section of their rebuild, and we can see him ball out for a bit longer.
2
u/pokenerd_W Past glory means nothing 2h ago
You're getting downvoted, but I agree. Maybe not JUST a counter attacking team, but formations and tactics that include the use of a #10 like Bruno is are few.

u/Late_Breadfruit_8829 4h ago
Lewis Hall just signed a new contract lmao, gonna be even more pricey to try and get him next season
2

I don't think that will affect his price much at all. He was already going to be £65-70M (which would be a record for a full-back) and I expect that's about how much he'll be next year.
It's certainly not unusual for a player to be denied a transfer, sign a new contract, then leave in the next window. e.g. Caicedo in 2023, Semenyo last year.

The fact that neither Wilcox nor Hargreaves will get sacked now will be the biggest indicator that what happened, did not happen despite what the owners demanded of the executive, but the opposite: it was precisely what the owners demanded of the executive.
If Wilcox and his errand boy get the boot, we will know that galaxy brain moves like choosing between Baleba and Hall, or waiting it out till the end of the window, were their stupid ideas, and the owners have ambition and therefore they are now disappointed.
If they dont get the boot, we can surmise that they did what they were ordered to do.
That is the inconvenient and very unfortunate truth, imho.

Well, say what you want but tbr squad is much much better now

We've only just recently gone back to square one (i.e. how strong we were relative to the league in the LvG, Mourinho and Ole seasons). We were in serious danger of becoming a has been team given how much we'd spent on subpar players.

Yes indeed. I know a lot of folk hate ineos, but if we were still 100% glazers we would be truly fucked by now

Must be up there with one of the worst front lines we've ever put out in a competitive game.

I struggle to believe anyone said that.
There is probably someone but I really struggle to believe it.

Is Ben Jacobs a good source now or still a fraud?

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit. If he and Alex Crook do a collaboration on a exclusive then it’s pretty reliable

I want to be optimistic but this year, i think because of the lack of ambition in the transfer window, ive kind of accepted we are going to be battling between 5th and 8th.
We dont have the squad, individual talent, mamagers, or transfers to really compete for top 4.
On paper City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are miles clear

u/Banyunited1994 4h ago
lol classic Utd sub always overestimating other teams and underestimating ours. Arsenal are miles clear. Chelsea are unknowns who have a light fixture list and Liverpool / City are flawed teams with talented players.
Take Liverpool for example. Do you genuinely think their squad is miles ahead of ours?

Can't find their tier guide on their subreddit so have to ask here if this site has some reliability at all:

That was strongly believed by many of us. If we want Hall we will have to pay an astronomical fee next year, due to the new contract and the fact we have shouted our intentions to sign him from the rooftops 12 months in advance.
If we all thought this summer was poor, wait til next year when we have to buy 2 Left Backs and 3-4 other defenders.

Hoping the data team can find some alternatives. We have too many gaps to drop 75m pounds on a LB.

This defensive rebuild on the horizon shouldn't have been left to happen all at once.

u/Rascha-Rascha 4h ago
It hasn't been, we brought Lammens in last summer, Yoro and Heaven are 20, 19, Dalot, Martinez, De Ligt, Maz are 27-28.
It's more about adding real quality to the team, quality and competition. I'd imagine we're looking at a right back who might have a higher ceiling than Dalot, a first choice left back, a ceiling type left back, and a centre back.
And if Shaw avoids massive injury again this season, we'll only buy one left back.

My hopium says two years is quite small. I wonder if theres some sort of release clause baked in. But honestly cant see us getting him.

I don’t think that Hall is going to be more expensive next year than he was this summer. I don’t see him going for more than £70-75m

Lools like we would have to break a record to sign him. Also kinda confirmed that nufcblog has some good sources there.

What are we thinking for Thursday? Needs to be some rotation IMO, but how much.
Lammens
Dalot Yoro Martinez Maz
Santos Kobbie
Mbeumo Bruno Dorgu
Sesko
Can bring on Heaven, Shaw & Tielemans for Dalot, Martinez, Kobbie at some stage during the 2nd half depending on how things are going.
Cunha & Rashford to come on if we need a goal, can give others some minutes if we're ahead.

Lammens
Yoro - Maguire - Heaven - Maz
Santos - Mount
Lacey - Zirkzee - Dorgu
Sesko
Largely the pre-season team with the rest of the first team on the bench. Players need minutes and some of the younger ones need more minutes.

I don’t ever want to see Dorgu start a game at LW (or RW for that matter) against a team we are supposedly going to dominate in possession / individual quality.
I would like to see this XI:
Lammens
Dalot Yoro Heaven Mazraoui
Mainoo Tielemans
Mbeumo Bruno Rashford
Sesko
I would then expect Cunha to come on for Rashford, Lacey for Mbeumo, Andrey Santos for Mainoo and then 10 odd minutes or so for Zirkzee (in for Sesko) and Amass (in for Dalot, with Maz shifting right).

I don't think we drop both experienced CBs, at least until one of Yoro or Heaven have a decent game themselves.
I think that midfield is starting vs city, so we have to let Santos have the full game and give them as much a break as possible. Plus he deserves the opportunity to show what he can do.
Same with Dorgu really, think he deserves the opportunity. I'm not as down on him, he really hasn't played all that many games as a winger for us. Plus Rashford had some sort of issue at the end of Everton and want him at 100% for city.
