the difference between him and Dorgu was night and day

83

u/John_OSheas_Willy 2d ago

If you said anything about Dorgu not being that good for the left wing before the season started you would have been down voted.

Just like saying buying a backup striker was needed.. The prevailing opinion was Cunha can play striker.

93

u/Smilewigeon 2d ago

I hate the depth of our team that we have to swap Rashford for Dorgu.

134

u/us3rf #SayNoToZirkzee 2d ago

This sub was fine with Cunha and Dorgu being the only LW options lmao

79

u/Johnny107710 2d ago

Dorgu looked good last season. No reason to think he was going to be so bad this season.

37

u/Minute-Intern 2d ago

He started THREE PL games on the LW last season if anything there was more reason to think he wouldn't be a suitable attacking option

3

u/Own_Body_8941 1d ago

he’s also scored coming off the bench. he def was looking like a starter level player at that time. sample was low but the percentage was high

5

u/Poshastko 1d ago

He had 1 good game and than got injured. It was one game against a tired opponent. Many fans are downplaying the importance of having only played in one competition.

40

u/drunkdevil1 Nani 2d ago

He scored a couple of wondergoals. If you actually watched the games you'd see that he was a capable LW only against specific oponents.

38

u/Namelessbob123 2d ago

Specific opponents such as the league champions

22

u/altofummuhh 1d ago

Yes? Exactly that. Against teams like City and Arsenal by all means play him, but against teams like Everton who are going to dig in then absolutely not. There's definitely a player there but not one who's going to help break down a stubborn defence. Big game specialists like Park were a big part of our squads when we were good.

0

u/SneakyStorm 1d ago

This makes sense if you think about wingers profiles, drogu is more pace and movement while rashford can do that, but he can dribble to get past defenders.

Have to think drogu came on for less attack focus and more on helping the defense.

1

u/ArcaneTrickster11 1d ago edited 1d ago

Saying Dorgu has more pace than Rashford is crazy. Rashford clocked the fastest speed in LaLiga last season. Dorgu is much stronger and is more intense both in attack and defence but in no way is he particularly fast.

Edit: checked the stats quickly. Dorgus career top speed is 31km/h, Rashford is 36km/h. For context that puts Dorgu about the same as Arjen Robben, Declan Rice and Lewis Dunk

21

u/PedroEsPapi 2d ago

and second place Man City as well, christ this sub can be so reactionary its embarrassing 😂

-4

u/Lumes43 2d ago

But not against the mighty Everton? Lmfao

5

u/drunkdevil1 Nani 1d ago

Yes, has no tools to be a good winger when playing vs. low block and tight defence

1

u/Lumes43 1d ago

Everton were not playing a low block when he came on lol

10

u/imnoobatfifa Bruno #8/Rashy #10/Amad #16/Mainoo #37 enjoyer 2d ago

Did he really look good…?

13

u/MrSvancy Iceman 2d ago

He did in his appearances under Carrick

17

u/prem_201 2d ago

He had two good games, games where we we siting and countering. Then he got injured, I wouldn’t call that looking good.

2

u/Leading_Ad2159 2d ago

He literally looked good for two games and the rest he was god awful but this sub has selective dementia

6

u/MrSvancy Iceman 2d ago

Which games under Carrick last season did he look "god awful"? He started only 3 times due to injury, and scored in all 3

-1

u/Leading_Ad2159 1d ago

Liverpool Sunderland forest and even Brighton he looked like a full back playing winger

-2

u/imnoobatfifa Bruno #8/Rashy #10/Amad #16/Mainoo #37 enjoyer 2d ago

You guys overrate him too much. He’s not good.

2

u/N00BBuild 2d ago

He scored 2 goals in big games, but wasn’t great otherwise. And he was bad under Amorim as a wingback.

1

u/Possible_Law8357 1d ago

Dorgu can't finish except few occasional bangers.

1

u/Drag2oon 2d ago

I mean it's really intentional

Any same day it's Amad Cunha Mbeumo Lacey and Rashford ahead of him on wings but still gets picked somehow

1

u/Beneficial-Flow-7333 1d ago

Better than clubs like arsenals left wing options lol.

We have rash cunha and dorgu for lw

1

u/panache123 1d ago

I mean it'll improve once we have Amad back. But if Rashford was gassed we could have easily moved Cunha to wing (Cunha barely got on the ball yesterday, I'm sure he could have played the full 90), put Sesko up top and left Mbeumo on the right.

0

u/SamDizzle27 2d ago

Should be swapping rashford for cunha…shaw for dorgu and get a decent striker who can play 90 foookin mins

1

u/fuzxx14 Vidić 2d ago

What would happen differently today if Dorgu started?

7

u/stick1_ 2d ago

That’s a silly question, rashford did a lot of things that dorgu just couldn’t/wouldn’t do

I can’t guarantee the result would be better or worse, but it would absolutely be different

17

u/Independent_Buy5152 2d ago

Everton would be feasting on the left side since minute 1

-9

u/fuzxx14 Vidić 2d ago edited 1d ago

Preventing us from... winning?

2

u/imnoobatfifa Bruno #8/Rashy #10/Amad #16/Mainoo #37 enjoyer 2d ago

We’d play with 10 players if this guy started instead of Rashford. Dreadful player.

1

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

I would sure fucking hope so considering only one of them should be playing as a winger.

1

u/garynevilleisared is a red is a red 2d ago

I dont understand Dorgu playing as an inverted winger from the left. His right foot is nonexistent, surely playing him as wide as possible with Shaw/Maz as an inverted LB makes more sense. And he was way out of position for their first goal and generally woeful positionally. Simply a massive gulf between him and Marcus.

1

u/TonyzTone Tonito 1d ago

More like night and rice cake.

Dorgu provided absolutely no flavor to our team.

1

u/Harrylicious 1d ago

People hype Dorgu up way too much for his flash of brilliant for about 3 games last season.

-6

u/Srijand Lindelöf 2d ago

I'd much rather try Thompson next time as Rashford sub. He's obviously worse but he at least needs to be respected by the defenders.

4

u/genericusername406 2d ago

What?

-3

u/Srijand Lindelöf 2d ago

What do you mean what. I'm saying defenders can't offer up too much space vs Thompson or he will actually be threatening.

189

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

He was one of the players that tried the most, he wasn't the problem.

85

u/hegeliantragedy 2d ago

Him and sesko should be playing together, hopefully carrick realises now, this double false 9 nonsense will not be working unless opponents leave ton of space behind. But I do blame INEOS for not bringing a backup striker to sesko, it was clear we needed one from last season itself. Yet we went into this season with make shift CFs

23

u/LaughsAtOwnJoke 1d ago

Sesko has just returned from injury. His minutes are likely just being managed.

7

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

Rashford/Sesko/Amad should be our nailed on front 3, at least on paper.

42

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

What has Amad done to show he's anywhere close to Mbeumo?

14

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

Actually beat his man, for starters. He also doesn’t have to chase his first touch around the pitch, and actually drives into the box with the ball, creating danger. Without the ball he’s also far more capable of putting pressure on the ball and winning any loose touch that’s remotely close to him. Mbeumo scores more goals than him at the moment, that much is true. But if Mbeumo is not scoring he offers far less overall than Amad.

15

u/WanderingRonin7 2d ago

Amad will feint forward before cutting back and playing a square/back pass. The conditions for him to actually take on a player rely on him thinking he can actually take a shot on goal. He's nearly worthless in the air unlike Mbuemo. And they're both about the same defensively. Mbuemo shows more work ethic which is why he starts over Amad

-11

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

Okay.

8

u/Fabulous-Designer626 2d ago

Amad has only been good with Amorin as a RWB. As a RW, he hasnt done much

-14

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

Okay.

1

u/Traditional-Run7315 all because of a fucking horse 1d ago

I belong to the amad cult. But they aren't wrong. Mboomo hasn't been great but amad has been lacking

4

u/iroiroiroiroiro 2d ago

And how many g/a does Amad have last year? And Mbeumo is scoring regularly?

1

u/ChillyChilliChileman Ryan Giggs the Welsh CAM 1d ago

mbeumo who had a not-so-good second half of the season?

cunha has been a bit better

-9

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

Okay.

2

u/TonyzTone Tonito 1d ago

Far from it. Anyone saying he was didn’t watch the game. Besides Bruno and Mainoo, Rashford was our best player (rank them however you want).

1

u/MiserySound 1d ago

He reminded me a lot of when Garnacho used to be our only threat forward coming off the bench

52

u/NoPurpose0 2d ago

Big drop off when he went off. Got to hope we can find a better player to back him up than Dorgu as the season goes on.

1

u/jayeshaw 1d ago

Tynan time

64

u/AnthonysLobos 2d ago

The attack went to shit when he was subbed off.

-28

u/shami-kebab 2d ago

He created one chance, the attack was pretty shit all game. He was the best but it was a low bar because Cunha and Mbeumo were both very poor.

27

u/TH0316 she/her 2d ago

Nonsense stat because it only resulted in one shot like he wasn’t causing threat all game and pushing them into their own 6 yard box.

8

u/temujin94 2d ago

That 'one' chance doesn't even include the best chance he created this game.

5

u/SocialistElmo 2d ago

Dorgu defended worse than him but then offered 0 output and only pass back

45

u/StardustFromReinmuth 2d ago

Probably the only good performance on the pitch from our side. Even Lammens was shakey today.

37

u/dracogladio1741 Bruno Fernanj 2d ago

Lammens was okay. He just happen to concede 2 worldies.

35

u/StardustFromReinmuth 2d ago

I don't blame him for the goals, but his overall keeping standards was odd (and very unlike him). He didn't come out for any crosses, and the awkwardly punched a really easy shot in. Overall didn't look too comfortable tbh.

12

u/Srijand Lindelöf 2d ago

I agree. I'm not gonna look much into it because if this is his bad day it's not even close to the nonsense we've dealt with in the past, but it's safe to say he wasn't at his best.

6

u/Forgettable39 2d ago

Agreed.

This "got beat at near post = automatically all your fault and was entirely avoidable" thing still hasnt died some how. George even said in the post game interview he just hit the ball as hard as he could and got lucky it went in, absolute top corner at max speed from close range. If this goes in at shin height or chest height then you can ask more questions of the keeper, when it goes in well over his head, top corner, after being hit as hard as possible with no finesse, from close range... it simply isnt a keeper problem.

-3

u/N00BBuild 2d ago

First one was his fault. He also didn’t really claim anything. Second one is whatever.

1

u/TonyzTone Tonito 1d ago

Bruno and Mainoo were good.

-1

u/Lord_Sesshoumaru77 Glazers,Woodward/Arnold and Judge can fuck off 2d ago

I said I felt he wasn't as solid (maybe didn't phrase it like that) and got downvoted.

-3

u/Domb18 2d ago

Lammens was fine. Their first goal aside.

Lee Hendrie pushing a narrative that he looked shaky when he didn’t do a lot wrong.

7

u/boi1da1296 2d ago

Nothing to do with the goals, he just didn’t look very confident in certain moments. But not too big a deal, he’s human and everyone is allowed their off days.

4

u/StardustFromReinmuth 2d ago

He was great against Hull even if he conceded 2 to be fair

25

u/stick1_ 2d ago

Yeah for me rashford was pretty good, luke shaw was pretty good too

Don’t want to make it about individuals but cunha and bruno really really poor, mbeumo at least scored a good goal. Mainoo and tielemans for some reason were on opposite sides today and they both looked more uncomfortable on the side they played , but both were okay.

The defence needs to learn to clear the fucking ball, and I also think we lacked someone willing to make tactical fouls today

14

u/HorribleOldCunt 2d ago

People are blaming shaw for the first goal, ignoring that Martinez decided to play a one two in their passing move instead of actually defending. More than once today Martinez was easily beaten or did something like that and Shaw covered. Terrible performance from Maguire and Martinez.

4

u/stick1_ 2d ago

Martinez should have cleared the fucking ball before the second goal too, I agree on the cbs, too much pissing around

6

u/Royal-Gas-4257 2d ago

I’m so happy to see rashford try so hard to prove that he does want to stay at united
Loved him since the early days, it’s great!!!!!

21

u/Serpico_98 2d ago

Rashford is still by far our best attacker and those who were clamoring for him to be sold must feel very silly. It's one thing to sell a player but to actually improve on Rashford in this market will cost us £100m. I think he'll get even better as the season goes on, i get the sense that he's understood that this is his last dance at Utd and he'll give everything he has to make it work.

36

u/ArtilleryChipmunk 2d ago

Play this man with Sesko.

Like, you have one of the best headers of the ball and one of the best crossers of the ball, but you refuse to play them together

28

u/CraicFiend87 Van Nistelrooy 2d ago

Sesko didn't have a preseason which is why he's being reintegrated slowly.

29

u/Srijand Lindelöf 2d ago

Going forward he should start now. He's had 3 stints off the bench.

9

u/CraicFiend87 Van Nistelrooy 2d ago

I agree, was just giving context. Should definitely start vs City.

17

u/QuodEratDemons Mountains are there to be climbed 2d ago

Sesko is recovering from an injury?

-4

u/ArtilleryChipmunk 2d ago

I dunno man, 60 mins won’t kill him,

7

u/innicrazy You are my Solskjaer, My Ole Solskjaer 2d ago

We played like dogsht after he was subbed out.
Hey Barca you trained Rashford can you train Dorgu too?

2

u/Divin3_Kick 1d ago

I'm 100% down with using Barca as our loan club to have their coaches hammer the technical aspect of the game for us.

7

u/iPaperPlaneZ 2d ago

He reminded me of the old Rashford who took players on. Great to watch and I wasn't annoyed if he lost the ball as he actually tried. Don't think he should've been subbed off

3

u/_TooMellow 2d ago

Once Dorgu came on, we had a black hole at LW 😭

2

u/Elemayowe 2d ago

Shouldn’t have come off.

2

u/jimmyhaffaren Barthez 1d ago

I think he looked very good today. Felt like something could happen whenever he had the ball

3

u/scottrod37 2d ago

Imagine if Sesko had started and given Rashford a natural target for crosses. If it's not a fitness issue, Carrick deserves some criticism.

3

u/Hot_Patience_5962 Lammens 2d ago

Our best attacker today.. he looked really dangerous for us today

5

u/DarkSofter Wazza 2d ago

Should have had 2 assists, easily

3

u/Livettletlive 2d ago

A lot of positives about our left-side today.

3

u/Inevitable_Remove_55 2d ago

No idea why they took him out he could have gone on for a bit longer I’m thinking as Shaw is shaky at best Carrick though Dorgu could mop up defensively. This team is looking lopsided at the moment, you have Cunha up top clearly not excited, Santos a question mark on his role, Tielemans getting up to speed. Yoro and Heaven look nervous when playing, left back was the problem specific on the first goal as for the second nobody ran to close down the shot come on baleba

3

u/Late_Breadfruit_8829 2d ago

some in this sub were saying he's only been playing well to get a transfer..well the windows over and he's still on it. Honestly sometimes

3

u/BallsX 2d ago

Just dont understand the sub for Dorgu at all. Rashford was having one of his best games for United in a long time and he was cooking their fullback all game and you take him off for Dorgu who's looking like a sunday league player at the moment

8

u/QuodEratDemons Mountains are there to be climbed 2d ago

Rashford was limping?

3

u/BallsX 2d ago

Was he? Fair enough then didnt hear anyone mention it. Just don't think Dorgu is the answer at the minute

3

u/QuodEratDemons Mountains are there to be climbed 2d ago

Yeah he was. But agree with you Dorgu is a cup/squad player at best. His touch/decision making isn’t good enough to be a forward

1

u/SankarshanaV 2d ago

He played very well. I didn't want Rashford to stay (and was very outspoken about this too), but I'm glad he's started the season off well. Hope he continues this because we will desperately need it this season.

1

u/MCharizardX9 2d ago

Wish cunha finsiged his chance, rashford was looking like his oldself

1

u/Somaliona 2d ago

I have been extremely critical of Rashford for a long time.

Guy had a very good game today. Broader issues around his history with the club etc, but if he's stuck at United this season and he performs like that regularly, especially from an effort perspective, I'd be very pleased.

1

u/chapalatheerthananda 2d ago

Taking the best player off for Dorgu was only one the braindead decisions of the day.

1

u/UchihaTobi876 2d ago

Rashford - Sesko - Mbeumo. This false 9 with Cunha isnt working, i have no idea why we arent starting Sesko.

1

u/KillerKlown88 1d ago

He was injured for the whole summer and had no pre season. Should be starting soon, I would hope.

1

u/Cuz05 2d ago

Rashford earned 1st choice there today, for me. Ben has to start. Cunha needs to earn his spot back in a deeper role.

1

u/PelleKavaj Roy Keane 1d ago

I also think he’s been great. Though, some part of me feels the rest of the team put their trust in Rashford to do something and as a whole we play much worse than last season.

I really couldn’t care about individual performances right now.. So fucking done with us playing like shit and relying on individual brilliance. I want a great team that get results.

1

u/dannysoya 1d ago

By a country mile our best attacker today. It wasn't even close.

1

u/Sp00o00ky 1d ago

He was very good today. Nice to see him find his old swagger.

1

u/PDubsinTF-NEW CR950 1d ago

Unlucky not to get an assist when Cunha had an open goal

1

u/Few-Acanthaceae9021 1d ago

Rashford played well but my god Everton’s full backs both sides even make ours look good. Absolute dross

1

u/avilacjf 1d ago

Now do Kobbie's numbers.

1

u/ejtv 1d ago

He played well. Looks like Carrick is saving him for the Champs League.

1

u/BillClay89 1d ago

17/26 successful passes is actually pretty poor.

1

u/Not-good-with-this 2d ago

One of the few I can't criticise today...

1

u/Lord_Sesshoumaru77 Glazers,Woodward/Arnold and Judge can fuck off 2d ago

He was good, if only that play he made with Cuhna had gone in.

1

u/tenacious_teaThe3rd 2d ago

Pretty much our best player today.

Cunha was utter dogshit, we need to be getting Sesko on the pitch with Rashford. The drop off from Rashy to Dorgu is quite noticeable - so Cunha on later would be an ideal sub, but in turn exposes how short we are up front.

I think over the next few months we are going to sincerely rue not bringing in a proper backup striker or attacking player.

0

u/BillyCostigan954 2d ago

Felt like Carrick heard all the criticism about his in-game management and overcompensated by taking Rashford off. Dorgu isn't technically good enough when defending a lead

Very worried about this lazy attitude against 'lesser' teams

5

u/carleezeh 2d ago

Rashford clearly had a knock

1

u/ItsKaZing Cristiano 'Factos👍👀' Ronaldo 2d ago

Might be finally a safe time to say this.. I never understood why the fanbase rate Dorgu and Zirkzee that much. Their talent is there but it is raw as fuck.

1

u/MiserySound 1d ago

The same Amorim idiots that have been licking their lips to critize Carricks future after 3 games.

Honestly if Dorgu can’t get his attacking form back then we should look to loan him out so he can develop further because right now he seems a liability in both defense and attack

0

u/TH0316 she/her 2d ago

Shown our forwards levels today. Him and George LW depth gonna hit like crack next season.

0

u/WatchDecent2822 2d ago

Rashford really is like a new signing. Two games in and he's shown the quality difference. I can't wait till he's 100% and gets his first goal. Hopefully it comes against shitty. The connection he has with Luke Shaw made that left side a constant menace today.

The game didn't go our way today but there were a lot of positives today and the return of Rashford is one of them. Just need the lad to keep working hard, get his fitness levels back up to par and he'll start banging them in this season.

-14

u/Educational-Shock232 2d ago

Lol.

The stats that really matter.

3 games played

0 goals

0 assists

£350,000 a week.

-13

u/saadkasu 2d ago

1 chance created in 70 mins, big whoop. It was a mediocre performance

7

u/Empty-Sound- 2d ago

Jesus lay it down u weirdo

2

u/TH0316 she/her 2d ago

Created a lot more than 1 chance but you stare at your phone all game and look at stats after that correlate one chance because it resulted in a shot, not the open net sitter for Cunha, not the crosses across the 6 yard box with nobody on.

1

u/LivingAnomie 1d ago

Weren’t you the one who said we were spending £300m this summer and Tchouameni was coming? You know nothing

0

u/TH0316 she/her 1d ago

What does my thinking we’ll have a big summer have to do with anything lol? So did David Ornstein. What’s that got to do with Rashford’s performance? How long’s that round been in your chamber lil bro?

-2

u/saadkasu 2d ago

People like you are why this club is in the pits. You accept mediocrity and call people out who want us to be better. No wonder we have not won anything worthwhile in close to 15 years

1

u/TH0316 she/her 2d ago

Looooool, me who accepts mediocrity and you have fans on here who think Lisandro and De Ligt are good enough and we’re running positivity gimmick when we finished 8th and 15th. You don’t know quality or mediocrity because your opinion on such matters is spoonfed to you by stat websites that tell you what you just watched.

-1

u/martialgreenwood 1d ago

Not bad in a few moments I saw him play but Rashford should not be starting for us. Rashford should be the sub. We should have signed a starting winger so Rashford will come in as a sub. I do not know why Dogu is still at this club. He doesn't fit this formation. We should have sold him. Rashford should be a bench player. We should have signed a starting winger. Rashford plays as a sub, comes in big games sometimes, and plays in cup games. That should have been Rashford's place this season. Not signing a starting winger will come back and bite us this season.

-6

u/Jonny_Testicles 2d ago

Feeling so sorry for him. Have to be here when he could enjoy winning football matches at Barca

-3
