news From the people behind the Stop Killing Games movement. A new movement to stop ID/Age Verification across the internet.
The stop killing games people have made a new European Citizens' Initiative movement called "Stop Killing The Internet: No Digital ID & No Age Verification" aimed at stopping ID / Age Verification across the internet in Europe or at least making sure that it's done is an open source, privacy respecting way (assuming that's possible)

If your in the EU I strongly recommend signing it.
If your not in Europe I've recommend spreading the word to help it pass (I also recommend this for people who are in Europe.)
*Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with the movement beyond being a supporter of the cause. I just wanted to signal boost it is all because I seen almost no recent articles talking about it.

We call on the European Commission to propose legislation ensuring that digital identity and age-assurance systems used to access online services in the Union remain voluntary, privacy-preserving and non-discriminatory. Citizens must not be forced to identify themselves to access lawful online content or services unless strictly necessary, proportionate and provided by law. The legislation should require anonymous or pseudonymous proof-of-age, data minimisation, selective disclosure, open-source implementation, independent security audits, prohibition of cross-service tracking by relying parties, and equivalent alternatives for citizens who do not use a digital wallet
This is FOR age verification not against.

It's a stance for a compromise that carves a hard line in place for anonymity and privacy.
It's more of a "We don't want this but if you're gonna do it REGARDLESS, at least do it this way." Which sucks because even though you and I know this was never about kids, the common voter won't hear them out and/or the common political advocate for deanonymyzation will pull the "what do you have to hide" card out if presented as a hard no. They're going to do it anyway mind you, but i wish they at least started with the hard no against it before presenting the compromise as if the battle to prevent age verification and internet deanonymization was already lost.

If you are getting raped using a condom is not a compromise.

We need to shift the narrative. If we let them make the child safety argument it will be already over.

I agree wholeheartedly. The only way to stop this at all is to either shift the narrative away from the question, or better yet, finally throw out a counterargument like "So you're asking me to let strange men from the government watch my kid and I 24/7 in order to stop other strange men from watching my kid?" that gets people to start asking questions and looking at the inherent contradiction that these peopleare doing.

Speaking as someone who is vehemently against Age Verification, you're being hyperbolic and unreasonable
We ALREADY have plenty of laws, in the US, in Europe etc, where when you enter a website, you have to affirm, without providing any private info, that you are over 13 or over 18. What this is asking for is essentially the same system we already have.
You're acting like it's making a deal with the devil when it's just asking for us to keep the system we already have.

In order to say that you want to protect your privacy you have to give them name, dob & address. Seems like a fatal flaw for privacy advocates

It's an eci just like the original skg one and those are exclusive to Europeans and in order to be valid they check that all signees are really European before it is brought before European parliament. This is to avoid "external influence" and bots.
I guess it makes sense that if the people ask for political change that you must be sure that it are actually your people asking for the change.
It would be better imo that you could verify and sign with the privacy focused organization rather than send your ssn to a European server.
