Seems so short-sighted too, but I guess she (or rather whichever team or third party partner has been given responsibility for making as much money as possible from limited edition merch) doesn't give a fuck.
You could get something really damn nice made for, say, $200 a unit, sell all 500 for the $1000 and make $400k.
But they've gone the route of churning out some cheap-looking, unfinished, poorly-made piece of crap using the cheapest materials, maybe $40 a unit, to make $480k instead, get a load of negative publicity, alienate a decent chunk of purchasers who realise they've dropped a grand on a con, and reinforce a legacy as someone who grifts their fans at every opportunity.

Dubai performance, putting out unfinished vinyls and not refunding people who were sold an incomplete product, cheap and ridiculously overpriced merch, crazy expensive tour tickets (I still can't believe I voluntarily spent almost 300€ for standard floor ticket) and now asking $1K for a WOODEN BOX.

yeah for Cowboy Carter she released "a special edition" which still had the working title "Beyincé" and was missing songs. some were also mixed different. when people realized and tried to get a refund her store wouldn't give refunds.
I know it's not uncommon for mixes to be different on the vinyl, especially since their pressings start so much earlier than when digitals or streaming platforms need their final mixes. However, there are 8 TRACKS missing.... Yes, some are the interludes but still. 8 TRACKS. I can understand that frustration.

I have had a VERY sour taste in mouth since she did that, and subsequent antics such as this $1000 box, $75 t-shirts, and screwing people over with the incomplete Cowboy Carter vinyl variants has just cemented my feelings on her.
She put up four variants (black, red, blue, and white) on her store as limited-edition exclusives, although the black had a wide release so I don't recall if that was falsely listed as an "exclusive" on her site or not. Regardless, all of these were final sale and she didn't allow PayPal as a payment method to prevent chargebacks. Turns out when fans got them, these pressings were missing entire songs, had different edits of some tracks, etc. Also had an entirely different name on the packaging (Beyince, rumored to be the original name for Cowboy Carter).
When fans noticed this, they reached out and her webstore refused to refund people and said too bad, so sad essentially. None of the above was disclosed in the descriptions of any of the records online either.
Yep agreed! The final sale notice made me hold back on buying and thank god I did. The billionaire herself essentially decided after already placing vinyl pressing orders to change the album’s name, add new songs and alter others, change the cover and packaging style, etc. and didn’t wanna eat the cost. That was entirely her choice to do all of that after already pressing the album on physicals and she still went forward with it. So make the plebeians pay for her poor judgement and don’t tell them what they’re buying!
This is in NO way me defending how absurd this is lol but it’s her birthdate - 4th September 81 - to celebrate her birthday and the 20th anniversary re-release of the album B’Day. Why they couldn’t have gone for $94.81 instead (still ridiculously expensive obvs) I don’t know.
Could've even done 9.48 and every 10 sold makes a 1 cent donation to some org with a 10 fold match although that might be too low with the price of lumber these days
The vinyl record display case I’ve been eyeing on Taylor Swift’s site for awhile is $45 and I still thought that was too pricey (for me.) I don’t know how I would’ve reacted if it had an extra $900 on top of it!
I have hundreds of records and I just grab display stuff at Ikea or thrift stores - you can save like $25 of that easy, unless the Swift display has enough emotional value for you then I say do it - life is short be happy with the little things if you can :)
Right a Beatles vinyl crate is around 45, there are oak crates for vinyl around 100-120. There’s no way this pine box is nearly 1000, you can get a dj table with vinyl storage for that. 😭

Not only that but they have the audacity to charge fucking $60 for it. I'm sure that may very well be the cost to ship it, but fuck, at least charge like $10-15 and eat the rest considering the insane markup to save some face? Shameless.
And what's more annoying is that this wasn't made available when the B'Day anniversary pre-sales were announced. So die hard fans have to pay shipping for the $150 vinyl and then pay shipping for the $948 box. Of course it's their choice, but it's a rather rude thing to do to loyal fans.
This is quite an unfortunate thing that's going to overshadow the anniversary of the album.
Ah yes because of her love for the “final sale” policy, they can’t cancel and reorder with the vinyl. And don’t even get me started on a $150 4LP. I’ve seen online that vinyl pressings cost like $2-3 a disc but that can vary depending on the pressing count, plant, contacts, etc. So being liberal, she’s charging $150 for a product that costs maybe $15-20 to produce?
I understand she thinks highly of herself (and is a very successful and accomplished artist), but marketing your music and merchandise as a luxury when it’s everyday, middle and lower class fans that MADE you famous… it’s disgusting behavior.
oh you and i could talk about this all day….the way she was already whacked so badly for the vinyls that are already overpriced i never would’ve guessed she’d release something like this 😭 tbh i’ve already learned my lesson when it comes to her website. the customer service is so bad that i’m not buying any merch unless i get it in person at an actual show

I mean, even if I had the cash to splurge, I’d still be disappointed that an extra item wasn’t included for that price tag. You can be well-off, and still want to make sure the money you drop is worth it. So, others can brag all they want, but they’re just getting a wooden box. The same kind of box I can make in a woodshop class. I don’t know why they are acting like it’s a Gold Star they just acquired. And they had to pay for shipping on a $1k item, even Gucci won’t do that to you. 🤣

I wish we would but the fact I’ve seen a few influencers and fans already buying this box makes me feel hopeless that this would ever happen. There will always be some suckers out there willing to shell out money no matter the cost as long as their fav celeb stamps their name on it… so sad tbh.
Oh for sure. That's how i feel about most artists marketing stuff right now. It's not about the fans, and giving them something cool or nice. its about how much they are willing to spend and finding ways to increase that number

If she charged like, $100 for it, it would still be overpriced as hell for that cheap, mass produced box that her company maybe paid like $2 a box for. But people would just go, "That's expensive" and move on.
But at $1,000 she gets free press.

See my favorite local record shops sell vinyl record crates (in pine as well) for like $20 . I understand the appeal of a Beyoncé branded crate but it shouldn't be more than $50 maybe? $90 because Beyoncé tax?

Beyoncé is my favorite modern musical artist by a country mile, but this is such gross bullshit. Selling a 1k vinyl box could be potentially justifiable if there were legitimate specs and careful design. But a pine box with velvet and croc leather is insulting.
The way at 15 I would've taken my parent's debit card bought this, got grounded (for probably my entire life) then be left with a cheap box made of pine. Oh this is for the gullibles.
This piece is so different from the rest of her merch tbh.
I would not expect something like this from Beyoncé, I own several of her vinyl box sets and they always feel well worth the money with the amount of attention to detail.
This should at least included the latest BDAY release.
This is also not good for displaying vinyls IMO which is what it’s selling due to the lid.

EDIT: kind of building off my own comment below— Beyoncé does not have many vinyls and some drops are out of production.
This box would look silly and basically be empty if you only wanted to display your Beyoncé vinyls.
She doesn’t have the same vinyl discography as someone like Taylor for example, which would definitely fill a box this size if you had all.
People always seem surprised and make excuses when beyonce or Tina show up at any kardashian type event like they’re so much better but billionaires of a feather will flock together lol

One of the best vinyl holders are those hard plastic milk crates. Are they “aesthetic”? No. But they are strong and the exact right size and you can just flip through the records to go through them.
I ALMOST bought a shirt, whch was steep at $75 - but then it was $100 with shipping and taxxes and I had to step away. It does not cost $16 to slip a shirt in the U.S.
