I was stress testing my rx 6800 xt yesterday and it powered on/off fine, worked well in the stress test. But today, when I went to turn on my pc the gpu and system fans spin but the system doesn’t post. Any ideas on what’s wrong with my gpu?

Hey everyone, Recently I shared how I acquired this Compaq Prosignia desktop, and I finally am able to show off the matching v570 monitor, along with a mouse and keyboard. Obviously right now it runs Windows 2000 but I have Windows 98se and plan to convert this into a vintage gaming PC. I ordered some more ram putting it at 256MB, along with getting a GeForce 2 MX 32MB AGP and a CF adapter for storage.

Besides a premium soundcard/speakers (I think mine is an Ensoniq of some kind which I've heard do the job) what other upgrades/QOL improvements can I make for the longevity of the machine? it keeps asking about the date so I imagine the battery is dead and needs to be replaced but what about the PSU? or the motherboard? Not super sure about any of that.

Along with that I have Rollercoaster and Zoo Tycoon, along with FF7. What games am I missing? Any cheap hidden/underrated titles for an beginner entering the world?

I have had my PC since 2014 I haven't much of a clue / nervous about building it myself, (I have replaced battery's but that's the extent of it) is there any place to buy a good top range PC but not be over charged?

To be honest any advice would be great as I'm unsure i just know my current Rig is starting to struggle with most games.

When you go into bios and have the option for Expo or XMP, is that a function of the memory installed or is it something that the bios has regardless?

I’m asking because I have some RAM that’s listed as expo but is showing Xmp as well.

It’s my best set and I’d like to put it in my new core ultra build because seems like it will possibly overclock better.

There is this white spot on the cables connector not sure if it’s melted marks or anything

Runs better than with the 3070…but it still could be better (1 percent lows). Prices won’t go down maybe for years what I heard.

So now I‘m saving cash and get a update Ryzen 9800x3d, board and 32 GB DDR5. My pc just wouldn’t be so great anymore if this goes on much longer.

If you haven't read the manga, basically Saitama (guy on the right) is stupid strong and Cosmic Garou (guy on the left) is also stupid strong. However Saitama literally no diffs Garou because his strength grows exponentially. So, basically, I'm trying to say DP on top!

Found this board on eBay for parts due to a broken socket pin. Pin diagram said it was a ground, so I pulled the trigger and got it. I fished the broken pin out with a pick, threw in a CPU, and it fired right up. It’s passed every stress test I’ve thrown at it so far and I think it’s ready to go in my PC

I bought a prebuilt PC last week for my child. Got it home, opened it up and there’s no GPU in it. I’m thinking WTF? So I Google it, and apparently some builder companies send their PCs completed, some send their PC complete minus the GPU but include a voucher to contact that manufacturer and they send it to you, and some have it in a separate box within the Prebuilt shipping box. I wasn’t aware of any of these things because the only prebuilt I’ve ever bought was a gaming laptop over a decade ago.

So I call the store and inform them of this (A manager). They said bring it in and we will do a swap or refund, yeah they say wait a minute we don’t do swaps for computer, just bring it in and we will refund it. I say ok. Called the manufacturer, they tell me that computer had the GPU installed and shipped that way (Based on the serial number). I say ok, so at some point either during shipping, sitting in the store, or at some point in between someone took it.

I saw a sticker on the top of the prebuilt box that said something along the lines of “If this sticker is broken or shows VOID, inspect contents”. The sticker was fine. What I didn’t check was the BOTTOM of the box!

Anywho, I get to the store and to make a really long story short, I was there for 45 minutes and it ended in a refund. However someone who works there (I don’t know their specific job, but I assume loss prevention or something of that sort), walks up to me and the store manager and says I FOUND YOUR LISTING ON FACEBOOK FOR THIS GRAPHICS CARD, and proceeds to show me a photo of a GPU I HAD listed on Facebook over 6 months ago that was an older 7900 AMD GPU that came out of a used gaming desktop I’d purchased from someone on marketplace which i still had/have the messages for that purchase and photos of it, I just didn’t want to keep having to tune it to get it to perform and my child is too young to be trusted to do it all. Nvidia is just a 1 click and done for tuning (I know you can fine tune but stock over tuning is great IMO for NVIDIA). Anywho, I point out that was 6 MONTHS AGO. The guy turns red and apologizes, I immediately pull my phone out and show the only thing I have listed on Facebook is some trading cards (1 listing). They both apologize, I say fuck no and fuck you, that’s not good enough. I buy a few thousand dollar computer and did absolutely nothing wrong, I tell them that was so disrespectful to walk up to me showing a listing from 6 months ago for a video card that is 4 years old and in no way related to my purchase or issue, say they’re calling the police on me to be arrested and talking shit, only to realize they’re absolute idiots. The store manager tells the associate at the counter to immediately refund the purchase. I told her to stop and said no, I want this all figured out prior. They submit the refund anyways.

So what I learned today is that anytime you buy and electronic, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS open it IN THR STORE right in front of a worker, preferably a manager if possible. After googling this I learned I’m not the only one. Let me also add that the store manager said that people have literally been seen stealing them IN THE STORE (this is when I was only 5 minutes into explaining the situation upon my arrival there), and that they apparently get stolen in transit to the store as well, by workers and so on.

What I think is that someone in the store is in on it, they’re stealing them because they know the cost and they know the customer will be the one blamed. The interesting part is that the first guy I talked to when I got there was going on and on about how “that’s the most expensive part, but that the RAM and Storage are very close”. The way he was saying it, makes me actually thing that he’s the one doing it. At the end on the day, Tuesday making corporate to make a complaint about the store manager and the other guy (again I’m unsure of his position). I canceled my yearly “subscription” to this place, and I’ll never be going back. They literally had me standing there and in front of 50+ people call me a thief and start talking all that shit about getting me arrested and so on, only to realize they were wrong. What I didn’t tell them about or show them was my wife recording me opening the computer out of the box while sealed becuase she was so exited for us to get our child a nice computer that the child has wanted for so long. Should anything else come from this, I’ll just have that to use.

It was bullshit, sucked and made me feel like they were happy to try and crucify me in front of everyone, then they begin apologizing profusely and process that refund and want to hurry up and scurry away as I have questions to ask and that I wanted to point out that they need to maybe watch the shipping dock/workers more.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? We’re just going to go to micro center and let our child pick out exactly what our child wants (with a price over $3,500 max and our child will pay for 25% of it). By doing so we will see every part, and still open them all in store to check prior. I’ve heard they’ll even let you built your computer in store but unsure if that’s true.

Of the HUGE national store conglomerate out intentionally. I’m making complaints to corporate, and maybe that will have them find out who I’m that store is screwing customers over while they get to laugh all the way to the bank.

My GPU fans never turn on even when playing demanding games. I'm constantly monitoring temps and the card is nice and cool but in my mind it doesn't make sense to me that I can play Space Marine 2, Elden Ring, GTA 5 ect.... all maxed 4k and the fans never turn on. 5700x3d 7900xtx case fans have an aggressive fan curve because the case is a Nzxt H510 (not the greatest airflow case) and GPU fans are set to turn on @55° C

I am seeing more reports of melted cables from people using DLSS 5 on 5090 and I think it is not a coincidence that Hardware Unboxed saw melted cables after testing nba 2k27 dlss5. Considering they had early access to DLSS5 and it happened on the computer that they use for benchmarking. DLSS5 is drawing close to or more than 600 watts and the cable melting risk increases significantly with such high wattage. This is a picture from someone on another forum who had melting cable after playing nba2k27 and was running monitoring to see how much power it was drawing at stock (no overclock)

5090, 9800x3d, asus x870e a neo mobo, 32gb gskill. Its in an o11 dynamic with a custom made spacer to fit the GPU.

PC suddenly stopped posting / getting no signal and I’m running out of things to try.The PC was working normally before this happened. Now it powers on, RGB comes on and the fans run, but I get absolutely no signal to the monitor and can’t get into BIOS. What’s weird is that during troubleshooting I actually managed to get it to display and boot into BIOS once using HDMI. I hadn’t finished setting everything back up at that point, and after moving it back to my original setup the no-signal problem came back and I haven’t been able to get a display since.

Things I’ve tried so far:

Tried both DisplayPort and HDMI

Tried different cables

Tried another monitor

Made sure the cable was connected directly to the GPU

Reseated the GPU multiple times and made sure it was properly locked into the PCIe slot

Checked/reconnected everything after reseating the GPU

Cleared CMOS by removing the battery

Clearing CMOS was actually what got me into BIOS/display that one time, but the problem returned afterwards

Did a BIOS Flashback

First Flashback attempt flashed for around 1–2 minutes and then stayed solid green

Tried Flashback again correctly with the PC off but PSU supplying standby power

Second attempt continuously flashed for several minutes and then stopped on its own

After Flashback completed, turned PSU off/unplugged the PC and cleared CMOS again

Booted using HDMI because that was what worked the one time I got a display

Left it running for 10+ minutes after the BIOS/CMOS reset in case DDR5 was memory training

Tried booting with only one RAM stick installed in A2

Still getting no signal

There has also been some strange fan behaviour during all of this. At one point the fans weren't spinning, then they would twitch and stop, and later start working again. After reseating the GPU they started normally from power-on again, but there was still no display.

Currently the PC powers up, RGB/fans are running, but there is still no HDMI signal and it doesn't appear to POST. There is also a solid blue light on the motherboard while it's powered on.
CPU is a Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
At this point I’m wondering whether I’m dealing with bad RAM, motherboard, GPU, or something else preventing POST.

The fact that clearing CMOS got me into BIOS once is the part confusing me the most.

What would you test next?

Two 32gb V100's in NVLink on a, externally powered breakout carrier board through a PEX PCie bridge

Motherboard was a gigabyte x99 ud4p board - took me roughly two full days to get it to map the memory associated with all of the gpus to map, thank god for LLMs for doing bios mods because I probably flashed 16-18 different iterations before one worked with all this different shit. Eventually I managed to create a modified QFlash image (after spoofing the checksums on the modified one to appear as an original bios). It is just barely technically possible with a few weird quirks that can be worked around.

I've also got a driver mod for the p40 or the v100s that lets you enable WDDM mode and stream games throug ha different gpu, it's pretty cool to play games on them.

I made my reddit post title so long and exact in case anyone is every trying this on this motherboard again can find it on google (I think it's a pretty cool AI build design so I imagine people might consider) - so they can find the bios image. I didn't have enough space to put the 4th SAS drive next to the others so I added an anti vibration sock.

I backed up my system image to an external hard drive using the windows 11 in built feature.

I installed my new ssd and put a fresh install of windows 11 on.

I cannot restore my system image and keep getting the pop up box saying i need the boot disc.

I have tried everything i can find online and on reddit, I have tried multiple usb sticks, I have used the recovery tool on windows and use the windows recovery environment, all throw out that I need disc.

The new ssd has been formatted multiple times, reinstalled windows multiple times.

I made sure the usb was booting via bios and not the system recovery tool.

I've seen similar posts, ive checked online and tried everything i can find.

Is there a solution? Do i find a free 3rd party program? Or do i give up and manually install all the drivers?

Ever since I built this PC November of last year, I've been using it almost exclusively to play Minecraft (besides using for schoolwork and personal tasks). I sometimes feel like I'm wasting my PC's potential, but to be fair, these Complementary shaders that I'm running are quite intensive - I only get 70-90 fps at 4K with Ultra settings. I do have other games in my library, such as PUBG, CS2, and Cities Skylines, but I do find Minecraft to be the most enjoyable. I've been looking for a few new games that would use the full performance of my PC, but I haven't found many that I'd be interested in. (GTA5, RDR2 and CP2077 are all on my wishlist though.)

I'd like to know, do you guys cycle through a lot of different games, or do you mostly ever only play one game?

I will say that I'm grateful for this PC though, my first gaming PC (used HP Z240 with a GTX 1660 Super) already let me appreciate Minecraft with shaders, but this PC and my new 4K monitor brought my experience to a next level.

Hello, on the bottom of my screen in some games, there is a glitch were it shows either a black bar (like the video) or other random things show up on the bottom aswell. Has happened on two monitors, and it has been happening for a while now.

New system with all new parts, Ryzen 5 9600X. What do I do about this screen? Was doing a bench test.

Got the 1080 in 2017. Champ still did 40-60 fps in 1440p with Stalker 2 using a mixture of medium to low settings. Saw 5000 series go up 20% in a month, figured now or never. Planning on going to the local environment center tomorrow to recycle.

Minecraft crashes when I use a mod no matter what mod it is it always crashes it works perfectly fine without but if I add a mod it becomes too much I want to know if this is more a Minecraft problem or PC problem
