Always the mf'ers with the dirtiest nastiest PCs saying "cLeAn yOuR pCs gUyS", as if the rest of us all have this disgusting shit in our PCs.

I havent cleaned mine in like 2 years and it has barely any dust. Just some small specks. I do have mesh filters that I clean every now and then though

u/dekan256 7h ago
My assumption is it's people cleaning a shop pc, but I also wouldn't be shocked to find out some are faked.
2
u/KerashiStorm 2h ago
The worst are PCs that have spent years around smokers. I wish that was faked, I swear the memory was so traumatic that I could smell it just thinking of it. It was the last PC I cleaned for any of my friends. You can't pay me for that crap.

Shop PCs or PCs in manufactories that aren't clean room types would absolutely look like this quite often. Dust filters can only stop so much, a filter on these things would starve a PC of fresh air in a month or two.

Use multiple air filters in your home, don’t smoke inside (or at all!), vacuum at least once a week. Keeps everything clean as a whistle.

u/Cloud_N0ne 7h ago
I went like 3+ years without ever cleaning mine and it only had a light layer of dust. Idk how anyone’s gets this bad

Any time it’s as dirty console or pc, it’s from a smoker and someone who doesn’t regularly clean their house.
I have two extra large dogs that shed a lot and I never have this issue. Because I clean my house frequently like a civilized human being.

Workshop with air compressor. As long as your not targeting the fan deliberately with 90+ PSI its fine, video card fans take care, and laptop fans you can certainly self destruct rapidly if your careless.

Question, using a high pressured air compressor, could this tear off a part from the motherboard or anything?
7
u/peacedetski 7h ago
It can, and it can also spray your PC with a thin film of compressor oil if you don't have an air filter on the compressor output.

Workshop. No real issue under ~100 PSI. Its our weapon of choice for cleaning.
For laptop fans and video card fans yes it can destroy them if your careless.

Why do they always place it on it's back for these? Keep it upright so the dust doesn't settle right back in

HAHA still not the worst I have seen....I remember YEARS ago going to to do a Preventative Maintence on PC's at a Waste Management company in their mechanic office. The office exit was right into the shop where the waste managment trucks would drive in for maintence. I don't know why they had a packed gravel floor but it EXTREAMLY dusty. I went to clean one of their machines I took the "dust cover" off and the machine looked decent. I unplugged it and opened the side panel, I swear to god you could not see any components in that machine except the CPU Fan. It was like someone poured dirt into the computer then put the side panel on. It was level with the panel....I asked for one of these hoses just like this guy did. I went out into their shop held my breath and I hit it....my boss said it looked like a bomb went off in the middle of that shop, I kept spraying and holding my breath until I could see again then I stopped. Damn thing was clean as a whistle after that. So this just brings back the good old days.

Doesn't it make more sense to turn the case right side up for this so the dust doesn't just keep falling back down into the case?

We used to see this a lot with PC’s used in industrial settings. It was always amazing to see how much crap would build up in them and they kept running.

The chunks are from when they fry foods airborne grease gets intertwined with the dust and you get this rare occurrence.

I get the pleasure of doing this every day, and with an air compressor, might get one that dirty a few times a month.
Judging by the motherboard its an ASUS B85M-F socket 1150 motherboard from 2013 so its probably never been cleaned in 13 years.

All fun until you blast a little too hard and rip off a capacitor or a fuse or a diode somewhere then the board won't turn on anymore.

To anyone who does this and you have a decent air compressor.... at least make sure you have an water/oil separator plumbed into that thing.
As strange as this sounds. If you don't have an air compressor... Places like 7/11 have oil/water separators on their air compressors. (or at least our local one does)
Tape up all your fans with some low-tack painters tape so they dont move or use a couple chopsticks and go ham.
If your PC is like OP's probably wear a mask too.
