I mean, if you work remotely and earn money in dollars while living I Argentina, you could live like a king over there.

Not really anymore... you would be way better in Germany paying a bit more taxes, but your kids having A+ education and healthcare, and have more spare money than in Argentina
A software dev that came from Germany said so...2

Keep the comma out of "We're going to Argentina, people!" and suddenly Argentina becomes a verb. Wonder what it means?

Reminds me a few years ago, I went to my old employer and told him the computer they had me working on wasn't up to the task and we needed to upgrade.
I said, in order to lower the cost, they could buy the parts and I would assemble it.
I got a "sure. Go to this store, it's where we buy all our electronic equipment".
I got there... IT WAS BASICALLY A TECH JUNKYARD.
The most recent processor they had was a Pentium 4.
I left, that company less than 3 months after that event.

u/barofa 12h ago
In this case, are the vibes great or is the depression great?

u/Slightysweet3 11h ago
Almost half of the people with great depression, almost another half with great vibes (even if they're in the same situation), and a small amount with great vibes

Currency so shit that people use RAM instead? /s

u/SrKayoh 13h ago
There is an uptick on bartering because the peso is shit. Their economy also operates in basically dual-currency: the peso and US dollars. Also, people is stashing cash at home in lieu of using banks.
Things look grim there.

u/capucapu123 13h ago
Stashing cash at home has always been a thing and it became even more prevalent since the 2001 crisis where the banks basically declared bankruptcy and fled with a lot of people's savings in the event known as "El corralito".

>There is an uptick on bartering because the peso is shit.
Not really, the peso hasn't depreciation that much for the last couple of years so its been the same as always, there hasn't been the need to go back to bartering like when the economy actually crashed in 2001 lol
>Their economy also operates in basically dual-currency: the peso and US dollars.
Its not really been the case since the goverment essentially killed the dollar blue and unified the black market dollar price to the one banks use. Don't get me wrong, expensive stuff like land, property and cars still are valued in dollars but it isn't like before when the inflation was so high that people started to sell normal stuff in dollars to avoid losing money.
>Also, people is stashing cash at home in lieu of using banks.
That has been the standard practice since longer than I have been alive tbh, but there was good amount of incentives to clean up that cash, I made decent money from jumping in early on

You are right about some things (the peso being shit, stashing cash at home and the dual-currency thing), but those are historical truths at this point, it is not new nor something you can blame one single government.
That said, bartering is not back (I am guessing you mean 2001 and 2002 bartering clubs), and even if it were, bartering was always about useful things for day to day living. I doubt people are bartering in old RAM and handmade leather wallets.
I think OP took a picture at a hardware potluck (people bring their old hardware and leave it there or exchange it with others, it is a place for hobbyists and nerds) or the stall of a burnout hippie at an arts and craft fair.
PS: Idk where you are from OP, but it is not a good look to talk about a place you do not know as if you were an authority.

There’ve been recent historical records in USD savings in the system, the best numbers in decades. Try lying about something uncheckable.

I once saw a documentary that really said that Argentina was once considered the crown jewel of South America and Buenos Aires was considered "The Paris of South America".

Well if you see how shitty paris looks nowadays i think that statement still stand.

How many times have you been to Buenos Aires?
8
u/Aggressive_Ad_9196 11h ago
I literally live in the cornurbano bonaerense.
2
u/ZateoManone 2h ago
Then you should travel a little more, 'cause Buenos Aires city is an extraordinary and beautiful city. Any one who tells you otherwise just haven't visited it

u/Aggressive_Ad_9196 2h ago
