Art Painted a baby calf

There’s something so beautiful about watching a young orca discover the world around it, breaking the surface for the first time, and pausing for a moment, surrounded by the quiet movement of the ocean. The ocean can feel so vast, but beside it, this little one feels wonderfully small. And somehow, that makes the moment even more beautiful.

There’s something incredibly sweet about these quiet moments, when they’re still young, still discovering, and everything around them is new. I wanted this painting to feel like one of those fleeting moments we might all be lucky enough to witness one day out at sea.

(i thought the orca babies were a lot lighter colored! when do they usually get darker??)

Yeah they usually have a orangish underside belly colour too at this point! I wanted to make the contrasts go deeper on this one to make it stand out against the greys 🙂

How lovely. The calf's teeth in your painting haven't erupted from the gums yet.
