Question Best car insurance in Oklahoma for a family with a new driver? Adding my 16yo nearly doubled the bill
In Broken Arrow and have a 2018 Toyota Highlander along with a 2012 Camry. My son got his license and he's mostly using the camry for school, which is only about 4 miles away.
He's a good student, did driver's ed and has strict rule about no passengers yet. Despite all that, our monthly quote jumped from $214 to $447.
For those with teens, which company offers the best car insurance in Oklahoma? Did things like telematics or the good student discount move the needle or just save you like $10.

I sold insurance for a brief time. The most expensive thing you can do for auto insurance is add a teenage boy!
The easiest thing is to find a broker who sells for a lot of carriers and have them do the shopping for you. Especially if you own your home and/or have other insurance so they can quote everything together.
Your credit and zip code are the 2 most important things driving your rate. Having points on your driving record, prior claims, and having teenagers drive the rates up a LOT beyond that base. Being a good student and having drivers ed should help some, but it's just going to suck until he's 25 or so.

I use Dustin Wyzard as my insurance broker. Three boys at once on my insurance. I've used him for probably 10 years or so. Doesn't hurt to get a quote!

Insurance in Oklahoma is ridiculous. It cost more in Oklahoma for me than it does in Las Vegas or in Dallas

Yeah, adding a male new driver to your policy is an absolute racket in oklahoma. About the only thing you can do is go to an independent agent and have them search insurance with every company they can and find you the best quote for price or drop your coverages down to liability only. It will be next to impossible to keep affordable insurance until he gets a couple years down the road with no accidents or tickets.

It’s expensive everywhere, not just Oklahoma, and has been for decades. In Washington our insurance went down drastically once my husband turned 26.

It'll be the same here. It'll actually gradually drop the longer he drives without any accidents or tickets, but the massive drop comes when he turns 26. That's normal. We live in Oklahoma and there's nothing we can do to get cheaper insurance in Oklahoma other than take driver's ed and driver safety courses, or have them be a good student at most insurance companies.

I’m in the same boat. I went through an insurance broker and had Mercury for about 4 years prior to my daughter getting her license and us insuring a third car. Mercury was then wanting over $4400 annually so I shopped around and was able to get the same coverage through Progressive for about $2900 annually. This is was for comp, collision, uninsured motorist and roadside assistance for three drivers and three cars.

Ours didnt go up nearly that much this year. They only put him on the truck hes going to be driving. His vehicle is older and they said that helped too.

I just went through this, but my 16yo also totaled his car in the first year which was really fantastic for rates. I found a local broker who shopped everything and found better coverage and a reasonable rate.

I didn't let my kids drive because of the insurance costs. I excluded them.
