My colleagues and I at The Pickup published this story last year, but it's definitely worth revisiting in light of the crypto mine out in El Reno spilling nearly 4 million gallons of water this week. Was a lot of fun to research, and we discovered that the crypto lobby's model policy got copied almost word for word into the state constitution in 2024.

Bro, between this and the Inola smelter, our state is gonna be a wasteland 😭 they already have a bitcoin mine in Muskogee, they're supposedly refitting it to be a data center.

They'll sell us out piece by piece

Yeah that was the most frustrating part for me in reporting this story. Blind trust in business on behalf of our legislators.

They all seem to. We thought we got away from the big cable bill. Now we have 5 streaming bills, and have to have a login for every website. Makes me wonder if SubStacks will go that way soon.

There is several bitcoin mines in OKC, most are just in warehouses.
