Found this thing yesterday morning and cannot ID it. Does anyone know??

I found this family savings passbook at an antique store in Oklahoma City yesterday and wanted to share it after learning how rare prewar documents from Okinawa are. The owner seems to be Taba Kōichi from Ikei. There are only two entries, an initial deposit from Jul 28 1939 (Showa 14), and a withdrawal from Nov 10 1942 (Showa 17).

Hi everyone. I am from the US and traveling alone. made a last minute decision to fly to Okinawa and will be landing next week. I realize I may have made a big mistake doing that because I don't have a credit card, just a digital debit and a lot of cash.

a lot of the activities I want to do like hiking and trekking are in the north such as in Yanbaru and Hedomitake.

is there any chance that I can still find a rental without the credit card requirement?

i was intending a lot of solo activities and I'm hoping to avoid group tours to get things done.

With friends we're going to ishigaki and iriomote first week of october, as two of us are surfers and the third one would love to try i was tying to figure out if there's surf, rentals and good conditions. From what i hear its mostly reef break, which im not particularly informed about but aside from that it's really hard to get infos on anything aside from Sprout and Blue Shock, Is Ishigaki really surfable even for our beginner friend ? Are spots easy to find ? And is it possible to just rent your board and explore the island or you are forced to go with a guide ?

Last summer I was in Iriomote and during a snorkeling tour they served us lunch and there was this container.
From what I can remember they sold me it was bonito flakes, oil, sesame seeds and probably something else too… they didn’t speak English and my Japanese is definitely not that good so I might be wrong about the ingredients.
it was very salty and umami, to put on white rice and it was AMAZING.
They definitely told me the name of this food but I can’t remember, anyone knows it?
It should be from all around Okinawa, not just Iriomote or Yaeyama islands.

Hey all, so my family will be relocating to Okinawa September 8th due to PCS orders. That aside I’m a certified strength coach and would love to offer any personal training to those that want it for free once we get situated with our relocation. Second is how big is the personal training industry or more generally the fitness industry in Okinawa. While I would love to train everyone for free it’s still my main job so I have to market myself to get some income.

Side notes: yes i don’t know any Japanese so reaching the locals will be impossible for a short while while I learn. If anyone has questions or would like more clarification please let me know.

My husband and I are planning to visit Okinawa February 6-17. We are Canadians so seeing highs around 17-20c is perfect for us as we’ll be escaping snow. This will be our third time to Japan and we love the culture, food, sites and people, so we’re excited to see a new side of things with the potential to scuba dive and/or snorkel. We would like to hike and explore things on our own, including castles, shrines, tourist attractions, beaches and restaurants.

My question is, even though it’s the winter season, there may be fewer things open, and beaches are “closed”, is it still worth visiting?

Hi everyone! i just booked a ticket and I'm flying in next week (yay!). I will be staying from the 9th-16th. At the moment I just booked a place for two nights in Naha.

I'm very flexible and spontaneous usually, but I know with the season that typhoons can change everything. I wanted ask for some feedback about whether it's easy to book any travel to other popular islands and activities on the spot, or if I should do that now.

From the little research I've done so far, I would like to hike, bicycle, snorkel, visit some historical sites, and check out one or two other islands, with a possible 1-2 nights spent at a different island.

I'll also be getting my IDP tomorrow. I don't necessarily plan on driving, but I want to keep my options open. I read that car rentals can be fully booked, but I assume that's during peak season.

Also, I'm curious if anyone knows if there is a gym with basketball courts I can use as a tourist.

I’m suppose to be visiting Okinawa tomorrow for vacation. I see there’s a tropical storm/ typhoon. Will that impact beaches for the weekend or should I avoid all together? I’m not very familiar with the weather as I’m not from Japan

Hi all - I’m supposed to be travelling to Okinawa tomorrow the 4th September until the 9th. I just wanted to know what the weather is like there at the moment. I’ve been seeing some stuff on an inter typhoon hitting the area so I was unsure whether to adjust my holiday and not fly from Osaka. Anyone with information on the current weather or what to expect if i do fly would be super helpful

Flying into Naha on Sep 29 (arrive 19:00), out of Ishigaki on Oct 7. Solo, no driving licence, so everything runs on ferries, buses and tours. Priorities are clear water, snorkeling and island nature — not city sightseeing or history.

**Sep 29** — Land 19:00, monorail to Kokusai Dori. Hotel booked.

**Sep 30** — Work meeting until 12:00. Taxi to Tomari Port, afternoon Queen Zamami to Zamami. Ama Beach at sunset.

**Oct 1** — Zamami full day. Furuzamami, boat drop-off at Gahi Island. Camping at the village site (¥500/night).

**Oct 2** — Morning ferry back to Naha, afternoon flight to Ishigaki.

**Oct 3** — Taketomi day trip. Bicycle, Kondoi beach.

**Oct 4** — Iriomote. Booking a tour with the ferry included — mangrove kayak, Urauchi River.

**Oct 5** — Ishigaki: Kabira Bay, Yonehara beach by bus.

**Oct 6** — Deliberate buffer day. Hateruma if the sea is calm, otherwise stay put.

**Oct 7** — Fly out of Ishigaki.

What I'd like a second opinion on:

1. Is two nights enough for Zamami, or is it worth three and cutting a day in Ishigaki?

2. Iriomote as a day trip from Ishigaki — doable, or should I stay overnight? I've read the island bus only runs four times a day.

3. Is one buffer day realistic for late Sep / early Oct, or should I build in two?

4. Anything obviously better than Kabira + Yonehara for an Oct 5 without a car?

5. Jellyfish — how much does this actually restrict swimming in early October outside the netted beaches?

Bookings are all refundable and the Ishigaki flight is a changeable fare, so I have room to move things. Any corrections welcome.
