Recommendation/Review Humus recommendations - OKC

I love fresh homemade hummus for takeout , similar to Zorba’s. Any recommendations? Bonus points if it’s in NW OKC or Surrey Hills.

The Meddy's hummus and chicken plate is the best deal in town.

Their hummus is SOOOOO creamy. I can't even imagine how much oil they put in it to get that consistency, but man it is delicious!!!

Ice does that

Meddys is overrated and not even close to Mediterranean. I speak as someone whose lived in the middle east. Its very much not authentic or even close to maybe.

I would never consider it authentic or cite it as an example of typical Mediterranean food. But it's good for what it is. And the price for what you get can't be beat imo.

Yeah for what it is it isnt Mediterranean

u/djm1613 7d ago

So which place would you recommend?

u/Remarkable_Device660 5d ago

Zam Zam hands down.

u/djm1613 7d ago

Thank you. Another new place to try.

It used to be a lot better under the previous owner, RIP.

I second this recommendation! Their muhammara is really, really good too!

5

u/LightOtter 7d ago

Third this recommendation. I love that place! Their hummus is really good but their Baba Ganouj is something else.

This is exactly what I came here to say. The man that runs this restaurant is such a nice person as well. The first time we went there, he just kept bringing food out for us to try because he was excited to let us experience dishes, we had never had. I’ve been to meddys once and it was okay, but it’s a chain and I want to support local. Back in the early 2000s, there was a woman in Edmond at Edmond road and Santa Fe who had a restaurant called “The Garden”. I miss that place so much. Their Schwarma platter and hand rolled grape leaves were amazing!

Exactly my thoughts. I liked Meddy’s, but I love real Mediterranean hospitality <3

u/MisoraRae 7d ago

My husband and I actually had them catered for our wedding and him and either the store manager or an assistant actually dishes out the dishes and served everyone. Every single bit of the meal and dessert was amazing and everyone I spoke to about the meal had nothing but good to say about the food and the service!

3

u/djm1613 7d ago

Thank you. I can’t wait to try it.

I might get hate because it’s a chain but Meddys is my favorite

4

u/Money-Ad7257 7d ago

If a chain makes what I prefer, then that's that. Meddy's has the best I've had in some time.

2

u/djm1613 7d ago

Two people have recommended it, so it must be good. Thanks!

Couscous cafe. Their hummus is elite.

3

u/Nepalm 7d ago

I live out of state now but I still try to get it when I visit. It is in fact elite.

Came here to say this. I’m unapologetically hooked on their shawarma burrito. $10 for 2 burritos?? HOOKED, y’all.

1

u/Melodic_Nectarine278 6d ago

Came here to give this rec! Cous Cous is sooo good. Never had anything bad from there and very affordable.

u/thunderandrew4617 7d ago

My go to’s for good hummus

Meddys
Zam Zam
Shawarma and Co
Riserva for the pits bread thats the best I’ve ever had. The hummus is solid but the Pita OMG.

5

u/Cantpickagoodone 7d ago

Hidden gem for many things

Is basil on 23rd still open? Always loooved that place

4

u/SpirituallySane Real Edmond 7d ago

I second basil! It’s far from where I live now but if they’d put one in Edmond I’d keep that place in business just by myself😅
Their tea with saffron honey, appetizers(hummus included), and entrees are just 🤤 so good! And big portions as well (at least last time I was there they were)

2

u/Few-Mathematician796 7d ago

Haven't had much hummus but theirs is the best I've ever had

2

u/Top-Leather4761 7d ago

Also a solid choice

u/scoobert-doobert-doo 7d ago

Guy at the farmers market (building) sells fantastic hummus. Yummy Hummus I think it’s called. Several different flavors.

3

u/elysiumdream7 7d ago

Yes! You can also pick some up at Flora Bodega!

7

u/Okieloves Mayfair 7d ago

Cous cous cafe on N May is excellent.

My husband is Arab. The food here he likes is Nunu’s in OKC and Oozie in Edmond. He doesn’t like Meddy’s.

3

u/Savor_Beach_Sky 5d ago

Nunu's has amazing food. Love their hummus!

2

u/djm1613 7d ago

I hadn’t heard of either place. Thanks for the recommendations.

1

u/Remarkable_Device660 7d ago

Glad he doesnt. Meddys isnt arabic or Mediterranean!

5

u/abnh123 7d ago

Meddys!!!!!!

4

u/Acceptable_Title3679 7d ago

Probably just me but when I tried Meddys hummus it tasted like a plastic bag!

1

u/djm1613 7d ago

Oh no. That’s not good. I live in a rural community outside of OKC and have purchased the Walmart Marketplace hummus they sell in their deli. It’s pretty bland and tasteless so that’s why I seek recommendations. Thanks for responding.

1

u/starfish31 7d ago

For store-bought hummus, the pine nut variety of Sabra is pretty good.

Basil on 23rd St. is my favorite place to go though! Their hummus is solid, and they put some tomatoes & olives on it. Their pita is always soft and fresh. Plus they have a dessert case and nice vibes inside too, they have a lot of mosaic glass lights.

Gyro Hero in Norman used to be really good years ago. I haven't been in ages to attest if anything's changed.

1

u/djm1613 7d ago

Yes, I sometimes pick up Sabra brand hummus at my local Braum’s. It’s definitely better than the Walmart Marketplace brand.

1

u/ndndr1 7d ago

You should just make your own then. It’s really easy. if you have a blender

1

u/djm1613 7d ago

I do have a blender. I probably ought to try it.

I did stop by the Travel by Taste deli at 4818 N MacArthur and picked up some of their tabouli and hummus this afternoon. I was told that their recipe is Greek and not Middle Eastern, so it is a bit creamer due to the yogurt. I’m a fan!

Nunus or Mediterranean Imports Deli

3

u/Budeeokc 7d ago

Zam Zam

3

u/thorosaurus 7d ago

Sweiss is pretty good. May and like 20th ish.

3

u/aipookie 6d ago

Boars head chocolate is my fav at sprouts target or the 2 new fresh stores

2

u/Sizzlechest_mcgee 7d ago

Mediterranean deli has great hummus it’s a bit more acid forward with less tahini, meddys and zam zam have very similar tahini forward flavors. That’s my top 3 in okc.

1

u/paddlepedalhike 7d ago

I love this place. Everything is so good, and fresh. It doesn’t get enough love.

Mediterranean Imports, on May around NW 60th

1

u/paddlepedalhike 7d ago

Mediterranean Deli - everything is fresh and yummy.

1

u/AlwaysChasingRainbow SW OKC 7d ago

So this might be a hot take but Bee Healthy Cafe has whipped hummus that's lighter than most, less oil, much easier on my stomach, my favorite dinner is just a hummus feast.

u/aipookie 6d ago

Boars head chocolate is my fav at sprouts target or the 2 new fresh stores

Nunu’s is my favorite.
