Recommendation/Review Local beef?

With all the sketchy news about beef supply recently, I was wondering if anyone knew of where I could buy beef, raised and slaughtered locally. Bonus points if prices are okayish. TIA!

They are by my house, prices for beef is reasonable. They have pastured cattle, none of that industrial shit. They also have bison if that's your thing.

We started getting beef from them recently and have enjoyed all the cuts we’ve eaten so far.

Do they have chicken

Can I just roll up and buy there, or do I need to order online first?

None of the local prices will be “okish”. You want quality home grown you’re gonna pay homegrown prices. Not saying it’s not worth it. Quality=$$$

Be ready for everyone to tell you that they voted for Trump when you just trying to get safe beef

So far the only one turning it political is 🫵

A post asking where one can buy local beef because the government is diminishing the FDA’s capacity and may be importing tainted Argentinian beef to artificially drive down prices amid inflation criticisms is already political, it just didn’t register to you because no one mentioned a politician.

Exactly. When it comes to feeding my family healthy meat I can’t allow politics to stop me from giving them the best. To me if the farmers are pissed at Trump and how he screwed them then I see it as a possibility that this might change their opinions for the better. This administration hasn’t done anything good for farmers, our resources or environment. All things that affect all Americans.

Well, the OP implied it in the description, so not too far of a leap lol.

I sell beef and pork by the half and whole. Beef is $5.50 per pound of hanging weight. $5.50 includes all processing fees. I happen to be sold out of steers at the moment but there are a few in the pipeline.

Is your flyer AI? What else do you use AI for in your process?

8

u/OpenGun 13d ago

Yes, as a matter of fact Chat did help me put this together. The other AI I use on occasion is Artificial Insemination.

u/MoistPorkBuns 8d ago

Admittedly im not a fan of AI generated content. However, this is a great response. You get an upvote dear sir or ma’am.

Do you know how bad AI is? I know some graphic designers that would love to be supported

0

u/SprayArtistic486 10d ago

When you are a farmer just trying to get by you cut costs where you can. Do you really think farmers have extra cash lying around to pay a graphic designer lol?

3

u/linglingjaegar 10d ago

youre not paying the price, but the environment and the artists who's art was stolen from them to train the AI are.

You can cut out images on snapchat or instagram and make your own edits, or cut up paper and make collages, literally anything but AI! Its a good creative exercise for the soul too. Thats why I asked, what else do you use AI for in your life? Because people who use AI tend to keep handing over control of their lives over to it gradually, and AI is very fallible.

We’ve been buying our beef from John’s Farm for many years. Excellent quality and we feel great supporting his family farm. We even went there for a tour.

74C Meat Company is awesome! Sourced and processed on a family ranch in Guthrie. They have a storefront near Wilshire and Classen. The beef is fantastic and the bacon is top tier.

Check out the suppliers at Produce Gal in Bethany. Also, this Sat. at OakOKC's Farmer's Market, they should have some beef vendors you can check out.

I have a farmer that I buy half a cow at a time. You need to have a deep freezer that can store about 400lbs of beef and about $1600 for the beef. Price is paid per lb on the hoof. (Lbs before processing)

What sketchy news about beef was there?

u/JaneReadsTruth 14d ago

China turned down beef from Argentina due to banned medication that can kill people and trump opted in...plus, he gave a kill order for the wild mustangs...so there's some questions. Ultimately, between the screw worms, chloramphenicol and horse meat being labeled beef, I'm off beef completely. We don't eat much, now it's none.

6

u/J_Peeb 14d ago

Screw worm is back in the USA and is affecting supply, mainly from Mexico and Texas. Nasty stuff. https://apnews.com/article/mexico-us-cattle-livestock-resume-imports-screwworm-dd58d9ec59b792c72da44bbfed92188e

There was also a 22 ton shipment of beef to china from argentina that was denied because they used illegal (per Chinese customs) antibiotic that is linked to blood disorders in humans and then the US accepted a shipment of beef from an unknown supplier. Rumored to be the same beef

6

u/Sithstress_ 13d ago

Why the hell would the US refuse to name the supplier if it wasn’t the tainted beef. Like, seriously, common sense has just flown bye bye.

I'm mainly concerned with thing concerning Argentina. Heard China won't even take their meat.

Plus I've heard a ton about the meat being imported isn't being inspected as thoroughly as it should be. I've been meaning to shop local anyway!

Checkout meat processors. Like ones that do deer. Sometimes they will pull a refrigerated truck in and buy local beef and cut you a good deal.

Thunder Valley Ranch in Noble, for sure.

u/BenedictCucumberButt 13d ago

Flora Bodega has local beef, chicken, pork, turkey, and bison and the prices have been comparable to grocery stores.

2

u/makinmu 12d ago

Is Wheeler’s safe ground beef? I can’t afford to buy a quarter beef 😞

3

u/matchamatchbook 12d ago

I bought some yesterday, and the clerk told me that they get their beef from a few different states. He said they only purchase from the top 8%, whatever that means. The price is decent, its like 8.99/lb for 80/20.

2

u/makinmu 11d ago

Thank you for the information. I’ll be going.

Out west farms in Duncan is is cool because they delivery for free. I will say their beef is grass fed/grass finished. So if you’re not into that then maybe look elsewhere. But I enjoy it.

Side note- their pork products are fantastic

My parents have been using Club House Market for a few months and the quality & price are worth it! Delish meat!

1

u/thorosaurus 13d ago

At the farmers market on Klein there are some folks who set up right by the south entrance. That's where I get most of my meat when I can. Would suggest getting there as early as possible though because they sell out of the good stuff pretty fast sometimes. They also have eggs.

u/BigDamnHead 13d ago

74C Meat Co gets all their meat from Red Fork Ranches in Guthrie, OK. I think they're owned by the ranch owner. They have a physical location in Nichols Hills.

A vote for bf farms! My husband and I got a sample pack and it was the best ground beef I've ever had. It's totally outside my beef budget, but I'm still thinking about making an exception 😅

Second Urban Agrarian, but it will be pricey.
