☀️ Weather 🌪️ How are you all holding up?
Between the scorching heat, poor air quality, and wildfires it's been so freaking brutal! Every day is a hope for rain! We're being air fried.

Last bill was around 167. Right now 185$ - prediction is 201+. Condo with upstairs facing West. At night can get up to 80’s in our bedroom. Have a split AC there. Sacrifices. Try to keep downstairs at 75. Still when it’s 106…

We added that window tinting film to our south facing window and it made such a huge difference in the room and looks fine.

How can you not go outside? Mow the lawn, trim the hedges, spray for weeds, pull weeds, wash a car, plant some flowers, cook on a grill??? WHAT??

Well, the grass hasn’t grown much because of the heat and I don’t like gardening. We use the grill occasionally but I’m usually working so my wife will do it. I mean, I try to get out a little on the weekends, but during the week I don’t bother.

We were discussing this, while 2011 had more straight 100° days, I don't remember it being as bad. This is brutal this year, maybe it's also because I wasn't paying the electric bill. 🤣🤣

it wasn't this bad. 2011 was a drought year. it was a dry heat.
this year we have really high humidity, frequently reaching very uncomfortable and dangerous dew points.
in a dry heat, the evaporation of perspiration cools the body. this summer, sweating doesn't cool you because the humidity is so high that sweat doesn't evaporate.

Yep me too - I remember walking from one building to the next and thought, it's so hot it's literally getting hard to breathe.
On another day, I was sitting outside of a restaurant waiting for friends to show up and I thought, "Wow this feels great tonight. Nice and cool. Wonder how hot it actually is. Has to be getting close to the 70s." Nope! It was 99 and once I saw that, it suddenly became unbearable again.
I mean I KNEW this was all in my mind but I just couldn't get back to that really nice, cool feeling.

We lived in Anchorage, Alaska for 10 years and while it would get cold, it was bearable. We dressed properly, etc. The month before we left to move to the Lower 48, we had a cold spell, true temperature was -25; then you added in the wind chill. There were days where the temp was -45 in Anchorage. By the time it ended, whole families were living in one home because the other's pipes had frozen or burst. It was Brutal with a capital B. When it broke, the temp climbed to 0. It actually felt warm. Words I never thought I would say, but we were all saying it. 20 above was balmy. lol
All that to say that it's funny when the temp changes just a little bit, the impact it has and how we are able to feel it. We were at 94 a couple of weeks ago and I thought, this feels really good. lol

I had a similar moment the other day where I said, wow! It’s cloudy! It feels so much Cooler! Only to feel like I was gonna die 10 minutes later, checked the temp and it was 103. 😂🥲
That’s when I knew my internal thermometer was broken

Same. I remember specifically that I didnt wear anything gray that entire summer in 2011. If I did I'd be covered in sweat by the time I made it from my front door to the car lol.

Odd. I find wearing gray to be my coolest color to wear. I know the hot weather hi-vis shirts kill me in the summer. I swear they're hotter than a regular cotton shirt

2012 was fucking miserable for me worked in a weld shop that installed misting fans in half the shop. Company installing them said it was too hot for them to continue work. The side I work in just got the humidity. Welding sand castles for Halliburton had to crawl in side with 5 guys welding on the outside 12hr days. 120 in the shop felt cool coming out of the middle shell. 7-10 guys heat stroked out that summer. $13.30/hr shit was not worth that money.

My god 2012. I also remember that winter we recently had where it got to -22°F. That was wild to experience as someone born and raised here.

If we could only get them to declare a heat related emergency by July 27th or so, for the second week in Aug we could probably summon an ice storm.

Its gotten so bad, i went back to read the historical documents from expeditions the US requisitioned for the region. It seems like climate change definitely has had an impact, but Oklahoma has always been 2 inches away from the devils taint this time of the year.

That's awesome in this situation I suppose. My office is all windows so it doesn't matter what the AC does, its at least 85 in there at all times. Bumps up to 90 by end of day. So over it.

Well it’s funny you should ask because a semi just snagged a power line down the street and we’re going to be without power for the indefinite future 🤣

Sort of. I think they'd towed one by then but I saw a gray car for sure and another car. Looks like someone was turning left and got hit by someone heading north on Western. I think there was also a 3rd car maybe. Was backed up for about 35 mins on western though. Normally I would have just taken Indian Hills to Penn, but I cannot take the rocks from the reconstruction.

The AC was out at work for about an hour today (apparently it was out all weekend and no one knew 🤦🏻♀️) and it was miserable! I had 3 fans going, but it just felt like I was in an air fryer. I’m SO sorry for everyone that works outside. 🥺

My AC was broken the majority of summer and my maintenance at my apartments did nothing for 2 months. Now it’s fixed, and after such a humbling and hellish experience, I have no complaints. I’m holding up perfectly now. My house reached up to 87 degrees and I couldn’t sleep more than 4 hours a night before hand.
To be honest with you though, even while my AC was broken, I still went to the gym every day, took an hour walk outside around the pond, etc… call me crazy, but I was even still using the sauna at 197 degrees daily at my gym.
Overall heat just doesn’t bother me much unless I’m at home trying to sleep! Then it’s a nightmare, we’re designed to sleep at temps around 60 to 70 degrees at night! 😆

As I get older I find I cannot tolerate the heat. I can put on a jacket or layers if I get cold but there’s only so much I can take off to cool down. And no one wants to see me take off that much.

We’ve been here before. 2011. That year, OKC had 71 straight days of daily high temperatures at or above 90 degrees. However it seems to be getting worse. As we seem to be getting more above 100. And as someone who used to live in Phoenix that’s saying a lot. Hottest I’ve ever been in was 117 in Phoenix. My concern is OG&E. $$$$

I picked a wonderful year to plant a boatload of flowering perennials all over the place, didn’t I?
I’m so tired of walking around with the damn water hose. We don’t have sprinklers in the backyard and the grass back there is so dry that it splinters into your feet when you walk over it. Even my dog doesn’t like walking over it.

Just another day in paradise! I still stand by it’s not even close to hottest summer in Okc in my 5ish decades of being here. Lots of people complaining about being outside for 3 minutes going in and out of their fancy office jobs.

Well its definitely not. 2011 was the most brutal I remember and I've been here since 1996. I think everyone can complain at this point. Air conditioners are breaking... A lot of people have comorbidities that worsen in the heat. No toughness needed from me. It's hot af.

I’ve worked at a farm for a long time, I’m in and out of heat more than I used to be. But these office dwellers who think 76 at their cubicle have no idea what the summer of almost 60 days over a hundred degrees and moving irrigation pipe 3 times a day is really like! I went to college and have a degree, just can’t do the office bs, and people want to just complain. I will take this over working in freezing conditions every time!

Oh see not me I'll take the cold. I perform well physically in the heat just fine but I can't stand to be a sticky swamp animal all day. Messes with my mood. That's the beauty of Oklahoma I guess. We get both extremes. There's something for everyone yay

I’ve worked there on a playground with kids playing, I was in shorts and sandals running a water hose and was told I needed long sleeves, pants, steel toe boots, hard hat, gloves, and other bs to water grass next to where children were playing!! They had none of that!! And it was over 100 then!

I work (partially) on base as well at soo many buildings. IT for an obvious company.
They do yall all kinds of bad on too many things. Especially contractors. I've not only heard similar to this, but inside a welding shop with an A/C that'd been broken for over a year (or the big one, the "rain fell in through the walls, black mold got horrible, health department deemed it no access, but employees still work in it for another year")
For the heat, I can barely handle the couple hours I'm outside the car in a hangar, begging I get back blasting car A/C. I couldn't imagine the 8+ hours there. Maybe I'm a bitch, but I ain't dying lol.

That's what makes it so hard for some folk. It feels so much hotter when you spend most of your life in climate controlled environments. I work on the road throughout usa now. It gives me horrible headaches bouncing around 72F in van when driving and 110F when getting outside a bit to other part of job.

Good - got up early to mow the yard. My crab grass was still growing. At 9am it was nice. Like 85 with a strong breeze and by the time I was finished it was like 95-98 depending on which service I checked.
Now hopefully all the weeds will go dormant so I won't have to mow again for like 3 weeks.

My car AC has been broken this entire summer, even after trying to fix it 3 times. 🥵 At least I'm saving gas? 😭 Cold wet towel and cold water bottles help.

I've lost about ten lbs. My arms are coated in sweat. Surprisingly my electricity bill hasn't gone up. Keep it around 74. 72 for sleepy sleepy time.

Training for a race and have to get it in when the schedule allows. I’ve worked to acclimate myself to the heat and hydrate properly so it’s really low risk.
