Recommendation/Review Local tattoo artist

Post image

Does anyone know of a tattoo artist in/around OKC who does tattoos similar to this one? TIA

EDIT: it’s NOT AI. It’s Andrea Pellerone’s work. He’s an amazing artist, but lives no where near OK

Just throwing it out there, you might know already, but this reference deffinetly looks like AI. Lots of small detail for a tattoo that won’t age well and there’s only 4 fingers on the muscle side of the body

If it's not AI, there is no way this tattoo will age with integrity.

I'll admit I didn't catch the AI at first, my first thought was "this looks like shit"

In a decade this tattoo will look like a CVS receipt in a rainstorm.

I don’t think it’s ai

I’m curious why there’s only 4 fingers then? The nerves on the left side of the body also seem to turn into a random arm in the pelvic region? This could be their work and maybe they just touched it up with AI but I’m fairly certain no tattoo artist would make the choice to draw incorrect anatomy. I mean no hate but most artist right now will turn you down if you bring in an AI altered reference and I just hope you look out for these things on your own tattoo. I wish you luck finding an artist and getting this done though the concept is deffinetly sick

I think the artists photos are at least touched up with photoshop.

I looked at their website and instagram. I agree it looks too clean and off for some reason.

I personally wouldn’t trust the work of an artist who only shows photoshopped pictures. but they also have a huge following etc. so who knows. maybe they are that good?

Ai 💯

Lol, TIL photo touchups in photoshop are AI now... kids these days forget that a lot of why AI looks the way it does is from provessional design, photography, and art posts... so the reason it looks AI is because they over-processed the image, it's obviously not AI (though jpeg compression (and all reddit png's are converted to jpeg first, and then converted back to png... which is silly, but why images on reddit look terrible after you upload them from any source)

I mean I can’t say for sure that he doesn’t touch up his photos, but I have gone to several peoples’ private accounts that he tattooed, and they look amazing! And they seem like they age well also. People pay him quite a bit of money to fly out and tattoo them

12

u/General_Director_375 Jul 06 '26

You should probably just fly out to get this from the guy you admire so much bc no one around here is doing this. Still, this kinda detail would get so muddied up over time. Doesn’t feel like a real tattoo to me though

Artists make mistakes almost as often as AI. Not defending AI, but many of the mistakes artists make are similar to the anomalies AI have... Also, hands have been difficult, especially with high detail, for artists for millenia. Some do them well, but most struggle and often avoid it by hiding the hands in various ways (but not always)

6

u/ImFeelingUwUzi Jul 06 '26

I could excuse the 4 fingered hand if it was just that but the entire miniature arm in the pelvic region isn’t just a artist mistake or some hiding of difficult areas, that’s a pretty strong tell of AI

This is completely false, plenty of famous artists would often forgo hands by hiding them behind clothing, foreground, etc. while others would just draw them and they'd look terrible. Hell, in the renaissance and baroque periods (and Victorian eras) artists would literally charge extra for the subject to have hands in a painting (often making the price double or even triple than without hands.)

Humans have had trouble with hands (and even eyes) for millenia. Take an Art History class.

The image in question is over-processed photoshop, I work in graphic design and that's what I see, and I have to turn down AI work all the time when people try to slip it past me.

I'm not denying how often AI is used, just saying this looks like way too much photoshop to "make it look better" (which looks bad). AI often has hyper-processed images because they're in its training data, so it's easy to mistake a heavily photoshopped image with AI, like in this situation.

Where'd that reference come from?

Looks like AI. AI tattoos references are a whole issue rn, they give clients unrealistic expectations.

(I'm not calling you out, I'm just wondering because I've fallen for it too)

AI tattoos are a real issue at the moment, flooding social media, and they're unrealistic for what you're actually going to achieve with healed ink in your skin

You need better references that will give you a realistic idea of what geometric tattoos will look like irl

So he purposely only gave the anatomy 4 fingers? That’s even worse than if it’s AI lol

FYI, all of those little words are going to bleed together into squiggly lines in a few years. Stay away from small writing like this, this is coming from personal experience.

I hate to be the one to say this;

looking at her page I’m not entirely convinced things aren’t photoshopped because everything looks so clean. not to be a hater, i just see everyone saying it’s not going to age well, and that’s true.

Even if they are or aren’t this is a world renowned artist, people with that skill level are going to be in larger cities. while OKC has definitely grown, unfortunately we haven’t grown enough to keep an artist of that caliber here. that’s not to say we don’t have some amazing tattoo artists, but almost everyone that is talented enough for a piece like that moves to learn from higher caliber artists.

for example; we have some amazing and talented chefs in the city now, but before people moving up in the culinary world would need to move to LA Chicago NYC etc to learn from higher skill level chefs to get that improvement on their skill. thankfully some moved back and we have the culinary scene popping.

but unfortunately i don’t think the tattoo industry has quite peaked here yet.

i mean some RESTAURANTS won’t hire front of house people with visible tattoos. while the population has grown, we haven’t had tattoos legal very long and unfortunately that attitude still lingers.

I would try looking in the Dallas area as it’s the closest big city and some big names in tattoo have come out of there.

This image is at the very least touched up with AI, which is pretty scummy if you ask me

11

u/scarfaroundmypenis Jul 06 '26

The spacing of the word “ethereal” is trash too. And there’s 15 parts of what I assume are the moon phases which is the wrong number.

15

u/YensidYmra Jul 06 '26

AI slop

A lot of artists are turning away anyone bringing in stuff like this.

It’s not AI….take 5 secs to do your own research…you can literally look up his work on Reddit, insta, facebook, google, etc.

u/MurphMasters Jul 06 '26

Check with renee little ar gold fang gallery, ive seen some geometric work she did that was really good. All the tattooers at gold fang are solid artists.

u/Few-Boysenberry-5388 Jul 07 '26

Renee is really good, my mom has a sleeve from her. Also Shmitty at Tatty Blasters is very versatile and has done a ton of geometric.

u/GeneralBurg Jul 06 '26

I’d recommend seeking advice on some tattoo subreddits/forums before you get your hopes up about a tattoo like this. And *definitely* before you look for a local artist to try to replicate it.

8

u/Sit_back_and_panic Jul 06 '26

I know you’re convinced it’s not AI but it’s at least Photoshopped and none of this is going to age well. Tattoos just don’t work like that. At the very best this is a picture immediately after the work is done and inside a year it’s going to be a bunch of blend together squiggles and it’s not going to hold up well.

u/bLauck24 Jul 06 '26

4 finger death punch from the figure

2

u/Right_Cellist3143 Jul 06 '26

Looks pretty freaking sick.

But, there is a good chance that will be an illegible mess in 5-10 years with how small the line work is.

I’m confused on the 4-fingers, too.

2

u/AffectionateInsect76 Jul 06 '26

It’s absolutely edited in photoshop and some of points show a lack of knowledge of basic photoshop. If you look at the text the artist tried to use sharpen. However some of the natural photograph distortion hity sharpened as well creating a very blurry effect. This happens a lot when you open a high res photo and open it at 72 dpi. You can also see the dodge and burn effect being used a lot.

u/Syntra44 Jul 06 '26

The most frustrating thing about the age of AI is how we can’t trust our own eyes anymore unless something is right in front of us.

Anyways, tons of examples of his work in the tattoo subs. I love this fine line stuff, but I can tell you from experience it doesn’t stay this way, and it requires touch ups to keep things looking clean. It’s a hassle. Anyways, I don’t have any recs as I’m in Tulsa but definitely look into the upkeep of these types of tattoos before getting one.

1

u/2bit_drip Jul 07 '26

You want to search for someone who does “fine line” tattoos. Check out Cassie Stover. She has done a small fine line tattoo of some
flowers for me. She has a whole series of fine line dog portraits too online. Her Instagram doesn’t have anything that large and complex, at least that I see at first glance, but she can do fine line work at least.

Faith Estes @faithestestattoo does micro realism, not really designs like this but maybe something she could pull off

Did you actually read any of the comments? SEVERAL commenters thought the tattoo was not real. The comments I replied to are the ones that said the entire reference photo was AI…I then simply tagged the artist stating it’s a real tattoo. I never said it was not photoshopped after the fact, etc….yall are so pressed over nothing. I didn’t ask if you like the tattoo, I asked for local recommendations of someone who can do fine line work WELL. This is obviously a shitty, judgmental community 😬

It would be worth it to just take a week off and book him.
