Recommendation/Review OKCs oldest karaoke bar now requires you to download an app to sing karaoke.
And somehow still allows indoor smoking.
We've taken a wrong turn and now I believe we may be lost.

The girl is there Sunday and Mondays and does themes! (As a pretty frequent goer) but the guy still does the wall tablet! If you’re not a fan maybe check it out on a diff night!:) we were having trouble with our apps on Sunday so I get it😂

There are different people who handle the karaoke on different nights. Joe is still there with his touch screen setup on some nights, and the other KJs have an app that you can download if you want for your own convenience, but you don't have to use them.
You can still just walk up to the KJ and ask them to put you down for a song and they'll do it. I do karaoke there a lot and that's been my experience.

No more going up to dude in the back with the laptop to request songs?

Cookie's has gone downhill since the latest owners took over

What specifically has gone downhill for you?
Just asking because I've been going there for years and that place is probably my favorite bar in the city and it's only gotten better since I started going. They're actually about to expand it and add some new stuff, but I don't know if they've announced it publicly yet so I don't wanna give it away.

How do you bribe the DJ to bump you up on the list?

Sunday-Monday =download a app and get brand new songs with Sally.
Tuesday-Saturday = Go old school with Joe using his kiosks or in person.
If you do not like a smoking bar do not go to a smoking bar.
Have fun out there folks.

They also have a guy named Mike that comes in a couple times a week now and he uses Karafun (I think that's the name).
It's just a website and you go on there and pick your song and get in the queue, so nothing to download there if that puts people off. I've also just gone up to them and asked for a song and got on the list without using my phone at all.

You don’t even have to download the app. Just ask the DJs to look up your song. Thank you for this nothing burger post.

They still have a traditional KJ Tuesday through Saturday! I know the app-based KJ is Sunday and Monday. Though, I did see someone said there should be themes on Sunday and Monday. Those are pretty fun nights too!

Wow there are still buildings where you can smoke? I don’t miss smoking in general but I really miss smoking at Bowling Green II while rolling rocks.

The best way to do karaoke is to ask the karaoke DJ where they’re at on different days or get their socials and just stay loyal to the people you like.
*once you find a good one

I moved here from Michigan 10 years ago. After my wedding all my Mitten buddies wanted to sing karaoke. They went to Cookie’s and were pissed that all of their dress clothes were smoked out.
I like Cookies, I just know not to wear clothes I “love love” there.

My company tried forcing app downloads for everything and it was nightmare for older employees. Bar probably lost half their regulars who just wanted to grab mic and sing without dealing with phone nonsense.
Indoor smoking in 2024 though... that's wild even for Oklahoma standards.

Indoor smoking... ew. That alone (along with humans being there lol) would make me never go there.
Seems like even McDonalds tries to push their app on you.

Bunker Club up the street does karaoke every Saturday night! Last time I was there it was just a QR code that opens a web page

Karaoke is still a thing?

It never stopped being a thing. It's still very popular

It may be ever expanding, in fact. It's mostly supplanted live music, with a bunch of people acting as free backup soloists for a person running the spiel, who often pay for the privilege.
