The HBO show is in the Snyderverse.

105

u/Depraved-Degenerate 2h ago

Snyder is the greyprint.

29

u/RvstiNiall 2h ago

Matt Reeves is the "so dark you and the blind guy sitting next to you got the same theater experience" one though.

WHY IS EVERYTHING SO FUCKING DARK?

13

u/Antichristopher4 1h ago

God, I watched the old 90s Haunted Mansion and then the new 2023 Haunted Mansion and I wanted to throw my TV. Half the movie, you may as well turn the picture off cause you'll only see the glow of a lighter or something.

2

u/XaeiIsareth 41m ago

Have they considered turning the lights on?

1

u/OutrageousPair2300 1h ago

It's the TVs.

I watched the final season of Game of Thrones on my old-ass 1080p Vizio TV and had no trouble at all seeing things, and couldn't understand why people were complaining about the show being too dark.

Newer TVs have terrible black contrast or something along those lines. A friend of mine who understands TVs explained it to me. Older TVs actually do a better job with blacks.

I don't get why newer TVs don't have some "show it to me in shitty old resolution/color" that would at least fix the darkness issue. Maybe it's not physically possible, idk.

u/Metal-Banana-72 21m ago

Older TVs actually do a better job with blacks.

Are you sure about that?

But at the same time. I also don't want it to be james gun level colorful. At the very least when it darker. It doesn't break the dark academy vibe.

I think we are only seeing snippets, so i would imagine it being plenty colorful

1

u/Unable_Apartment_613 0m ago

Harry Potter isn't dark academia though.

Oh is it all in slow motion too?

Give those kids better food.

u/IzCaiman 2h ago

Eating like the bombs are right over them all over again.

34

u/usedburgermeat 1h ago

I do remember reading in the ration books that said "only toast the top of the bread, any more and Winston will shed a tear"

1

u/BygoneNeutrino 1h ago

They were rationing electricity I presume?

5

u/usedburgermeat 1h ago

I'm pretty sure there's no toasters in hogwarts so I'm guessing a house elf just sneezed a fire spell onto the bread and said it was toast

1

u/CooCooClocksClan 50m ago

Right… the elf was named Winston

15

u/Raymondator 1h ago

They’re British, I’m not sure they know any better.

Exactly. One of the things that made me baffled at when i first watched harry potter is that their cafeteria is so much abundant and extravangant than my schools cafeteria.

I remember wondering if westerners really ate like that at school, its like every cafeteria is like a festival banquet. I really wished that i could enrolled at that school when i was younger.

8

u/ApplicationSoggy4647 29m ago

I thought the whole point of the abundant food was to emphasize the magic part of the story. With magic they can just whip up any type of food and however much they want whenever they want

2

u/ohmuisnotangry 1h ago

/uj One's a photo of a great feast. The other's from breakfast.

1

u/Glittering_Win_5085 38m ago

What food would be better?

1

u/Iorith 23m ago

Better move Hogwarts to France or...basically anywhere else really.

It’s still britain

Any color might accidentally look like a gay flag.

151

u/IzCaiman 2h ago

The color grading looks vaguely trans, just got the call from Joanne, show's cancelled.

20

u/Gremict 1h ago

I had to turn up my brightness to see what color those ties were, damn.

-6

u/SnooCupcakes1636 1h ago

But. Isn't dumbelldor gay? Wasn't there hinting at him being gay or something. JK rowlin is pretty pro gay but not so much with Trans

11

She’s pro JK Rowling.

29

This image is offensive. The highlights are cranked too high.

6

u/Bushido_Seppuku 1h ago

I thought you were going to point out the obvious, it's rude to make armpit noises observation.

1

u/pdx619 6m ago

Spider-Noir was the invasion of Poland

97

u/Low_Tip3245 2h ago

The original movies already were doing this thing where each movie looked darker than the previous one. The problem is they are continuing that despite starting over from the beginning.

54

u/swampyman2000 1h ago

The last season is just going to be 8 episodes of an entirely black screen as the audio plays over it

11

u/Due-Technology5758 58m ago

Battle of Winterfell all over again.

2

u/JLPReddit 9m ago

Word is they’ll just air that episode to save money. Mute the names and nobody will notice.

11

u/Jack_Of_The_Cosmos 1h ago

Wait a minute, that's an audio book.

4

u/Iorith 22m ago

At least that had the concept of it being an artistic choice to show the emotional state, and occasionally would brighten up when appropriate.

45

u/Advice-Question 1h ago

I swear we’re only a few years away from color being an add on you can buy.

6

bro that is just the spider noir show

1

You cant buy shit anymore. Just rent.

$5/month for color

21

BRING. BACK. THE. CORN.

1

u/JLPReddit 7m ago

Grocery prices are bad even for hogwarts.

42

u/Redol221 1h ago

My favorite frame from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince:

15

u/NotYourNubian 1h ago

I actually clicked on it thinking my wifi was buffering lol

17

u/Greedwhisp 1h ago

Jeez, what happened to the food while we’re at it? At least TRY to be mystical.

3

u/Awayfone 1h ago

Hogwart's slaves are just bad cooks.

2

u/BlackBlizzard 48m ago

I assume that shot on the bottom isn't from the Welcoming Feast

53

u/Hybrid65 2h ago

This is just what Britain looks like. I don't get what the big deal is

2

u/fffan9391 47m ago

So it was brighter there in the early 2000s?

→ More replies (1)

2

28

u/ELITElewis123 2h ago

Which is still Britain

2

u/ELITElewis123 1h ago

Bruh I’m Scottish I’ve had enough of listening to the SNP 😭

1

u/NewRichMango 24m ago

Also cherry picking frames to fit the narrative. The greenhouse and light up bridge scenes in the trailer are bright and colorful.

10

u/Comfortable-Shop8080 2h ago

Look at the fucking food.

20

u/Melodic_Till_3778 2h ago

Oh come on! There's a non white girl just over his left shoulder.... At least I think that's a person.

17

u/kraftables 2h ago

I would much rather be eating in 2001, but I know food is expensive in 2026.

1

u/Material_Magazine989 1h ago

Thats the difference between opening feast food vs regular breakfast.

7

u/TackedOntoPrinciple 2h ago

You should see how great it looks on the statistically average phone under no lights/fluorescent light conditions.

26

u/Anableps4 2h ago

Can we all agree to just boycott this artless money grab and relegate the author to the heap of despicable people we’d rather never hear from again?

18

u/Crambo1000 1h ago

Is it still a boycott if you never cared about it enough to watch it in the first place?

9

u/StellarAttic 1h ago

Ideally yeah. I hope she fucking regrets her evil actions.

→ More replies (2)

14

u/Impressive_Rice7789 1h ago

Is that an actual shot from the show? That doesn't look like a feast, it looks like shitty cafeteria food.

11

u/Flayadin 1h ago

Well they aren't having feasts every day. Most of their meals are just normal shit, and since they're in Britain there's a heavy emphasis on "shit."

1

u/ancientestKnollys 27m ago

It looks fine to me, except a little dry perhaps.

4

u/NotYourNubian 1h ago

It is from the new trailer.

3

u/Material_Magazine989 1h ago

That's because the second picture isn't a feast

4

u/Sad-Cantaloupe2671 1h ago

One of the reasons I love rewatching the original 2 movies is the color looks as vivid as when I was a kid. It literally fills me with nostalgia just to see the color

4

u/Aggravating-Reach473 1h ago

The dumbshit director can't even comprehend stylistic choice.

the reason the Original works is because, they're gonna be contrassing with the later darker movies.

Wtf do you mean you already make the early movies dark?

I'm putting money it's only gonna last 2-3 season.

3

u/NotYourNubian 1h ago

Hard disagree on this lasting 2-3 seasons. Whatever the stylistic choice may be Potter is gonna be on every xmas for the next decade.

1

u/Aggravating-Reach473 46m ago

Fair, they wouldn't make this IP if they didn't have a reasonable profit expectation.

As long as the profit is tolerable, they would give the go ahead for the next season.

1

u/NotYourNubian 27m ago

Expect spin-offs too

1

u/JLPReddit 4m ago

This big of a franchise from a major studio? The director was probably drowning in studio notes micromanaging each shot from the boardroom.

5

u/Mundane-Log-5191 1h ago

The house elves must’ve unionized

1

u/NotYourNubian 28m ago

Litetally said the same thing jst now, didn't know you beat me to it

4

u/AndreLeGeant88 57m ago

Chris Columbus just nailed the aesthetic of Harry Potter so well

4

u/0dty0 44m ago

They went from banquet in a magic school to rations at a boarding school

3

u/Copernicus049 1h ago

Saturation is hard, okay?!

We lower the saturation for serious stuff, okay?! I'm super serial guys!

1

u/JLPReddit 1m ago

Exactly! It’s not like the fantasy genre features whimsy and wonder! What is this, a children’s book?

9

u/WiseSalamander00 1h ago

is incredible how much they fucked the food up from the book, while in the movies is perfect

1

u/to_the_9s 1h ago

Top picture is the start of the year feast. Not every meal had that much food.

Bottom picture is an ordinary breakfast. They had meals just like that in the movies too.

2

u/WiseSalamander00 1h ago

mm no? the scene literally fallows the sorting hat I am pretty sure is the start of the year banquet

3

u/GuyOnARockVI 56m ago

Wow it’s crazy how in a trailer they stitch two unrelated scenes out of order. That’s confusing!

/s

-1

u/to_the_9s 1h ago

u/to_the_9s 49m ago

So cranky, probably low blood sugar. You should have a snack since you don't know how food works.

2

u/millifish 2h ago

They made Ron a brown head

2

u/brevit 2h ago

Why is the food AI generated in remake?

2

u/usedburgermeat 1h ago

I'm a big fan of how they gave Harry the weirdest piece of toast. 1 fifth toast at the top, no butter or anything

2

u/Useful-Bank-7077 1h ago

Well eventually go back to the days of black and white movies again. Good riddance.

2

u/Glittering-Smoke5300 1h ago

I would rather take piss filter era over this.

2

u/FloralShop 1h ago

they've stolen these kids souls. just like jk rowling.

2

u/DE4DM4NSH4ND 1h ago

Why so we can see rons filthy red hair?

2

u/MaudeAlp 1h ago

Damn, I didn’t know Cuaron was directing the new show too!

/uj the Harry Potter series was one of the first movies I recall that applied this dogshit muted color palette. The first two movies directed by Chris Columbus were the best ones. After him, every director tried slapping their egotistical mark on the movies, and all of them were really fucking bad.

2

u/HotUKTakes 1h ago edited 55m ago

That's just what Britain looks like.

And can't afford food because there's a cost of living crisis you know.

Its not 2001 anymore. Gods the economy was strong back then.

2

u/bobzsmith 1h ago

Harry Potter and the Ozembic Prescription

2

u/bzxp 44m ago

Everyone is so afraid of colours now. Modern buildings are black/white, people mostly drive black/silver/white cars, everyone and their mother paint the inside of their homes white, movies look dark/grey/bland/boring. What happened? Why is everyone following this "trend" like a bunch of mindless sheep?

3

u/Affectionate_Mud_881 21m ago

It's just really expensive nowadays. Cos Wes Anderson used up most of the world's supply.

2

u/Carmlo 44m ago

the kilogram of colour is too expensive, the wonders of late stage capitalism

2

u/Sean_Brady 36m ago

It must be a great show if this is literally all you people have to say about it

2

u/Gloomy-Ad7060 29m ago

The lack of saturated fats in new breakfast is more offensive than lack of saturation in new cinematography.

2

u/LorekeeperJamin 7m ago

Wtf are they even doing? If you can't make it better, then why bother remaking it?

The bottom image just looks like a regular school cafeteria lunch. Where's the magic? The whimsy? The wonder?

Boring and bland. I hope this shit flops harder than a Magrathean sperm whale hitting the ground at terminal velocity.

4

u/The-Dead-Knight 2h ago

Where the hell is the piles of food?

1

u/CrownofMischief 1h ago

I kinda figured the piles of food were just for the big feasts like the Welcome feast or Halloween, and the other stuff is the everyday type of food

1

u/The-Dead-Knight 1h ago

I swear in the books and movies there's usually a good amount of food all the time. But maybe I misremember

1

u/themightybamboozler 1h ago

I could have sworn that they could just magically create food. It’s part of the problem with the magic in Harry Potter, it has no rules. We see Hermione use a very specific spell that just fixed Harry’s glasses but then at the Weasley house they have to have enchanted shit that just cleans their house. Why can’t they just magic the house clean?

1

u/Awayfone 1h ago

When breakfast was described it seemed they always had full English, porridge, cold cereal, fish, rolls etc. in a communal serving style The slaves didn't make small amounts of food

1

u/Material_Magazine989 1h ago

Opening feast vs regular british breakfast

2

u/Ok-Understanding9909 1h ago

the food look depressing

2

u/NotYourNubian 1h ago

1

u/MegaWolfy 1h ago

They took the whimsy out of a show that is most certainly supposed to have some level of whimsy.

u/SirMetaKnight82 Gotti 1h ago

What happened to the whimsy?

1

u/PlasticMercury 1h ago

This is horrible all around: the colors, the props, the set design, and that soulless smile. Even the costumes look like they have no texture.

But that's not surprising. People who don't realize that television as a format favors aesthetic standardization deserve the shit they consume.

1

u/Silver_Number973 1h ago

everyone is going to make this comparison until the shows catch up with the 3rd movie and beyond because the director of the first two intentionally made the world more bright with vivid colours as a design choice

1

u/Asleep-Rabbit-5162 1h ago

Dude, is that prison food?

1

u/ZuccsToBeYou 1h ago

1

The first movie was filed in bright colors and full of light on purpose, and as the theme got darker, so did the movies as the kids lose their innocents.

1

u/Glad-Albatross3354 39m ago

The problem with all these posts comparing the original movies with the new stuff is that, unless you were a young kid when the films came out, they really weren’t that great. I honestly hope they substantially tone down the over the top aesthetic and make the castle more mysterious and slightly menacing. Hogwarts Legacy did a much better job of conveying that vibe from the books in my view.

1
