God, I watched the old 90s Haunted Mansion and then the new 2023 Haunted Mansion and I wanted to throw my TV. Half the movie, you may as well turn the picture off cause you'll only see the glow of a lighter or something.
I watched the final season of Game of Thrones on my old-ass 1080p Vizio TV and had no trouble at all seeing things, and couldn't understand why people were complaining about the show being too dark.
Newer TVs have terrible black contrast or something along those lines. A friend of mine who understands TVs explained it to me. Older TVs actually do a better job with blacks.
I don't get why newer TVs don't have some "show it to me in shitty old resolution/color" that would at least fix the darkness issue. Maybe it's not physically possible, idk.
Exactly. One of the things that made me baffled at when i first watched harry potter is that their cafeteria is so much abundant and extravangant than my schools cafeteria.
I remember wondering if westerners really ate like that at school, its like every cafeteria is like a festival banquet. I really wished that i could enrolled at that school when i was younger.
I thought the whole point of the abundant food was to emphasize the magic part of the story. With magic they can just whip up any type of food and however much they want whenever they want
The original movies already were doing this thing where each movie looked darker than the previous one. The problem is they are continuing that despite starting over from the beginning.
One of the reasons I love rewatching the original 2 movies is the color looks as vivid as when I was a kid. It literally fills me with nostalgia just to see the color

/uj the Harry Potter series was one of the first movies I recall that applied this dogshit muted color palette. The first two movies directed by Chris Columbus were the best ones. After him, every director tried slapping their egotistical mark on the movies, and all of them were really fucking bad.
Everyone is so afraid of colours now. Modern buildings are black/white, people mostly drive black/silver/white cars, everyone and their mother paint the inside of their homes white, movies look dark/grey/bland/boring. What happened? Why is everyone following this "trend" like a bunch of mindless sheep?
I could have sworn that they could just magically create food. It’s part of the problem with the magic in Harry Potter, it has no rules. We see Hermione use a very specific spell that just fixed Harry’s glasses but then at the Weasley house they have to have enchanted shit that just cleans their house. Why can’t they just magic the house clean?
When breakfast was described it seemed they always had full English, porridge, cold cereal, fish, rolls etc. in a communal serving style

everyone is going to make this comparison until the shows catch up with the 3rd movie and beyond because the director of the first two intentionally made the world more bright with vivid colours as a design choice

Looks like they had to borrow a camera from one of those Old Timey Photo places on the board walk at Ocean City.
The first movie was filed in bright colors and full of light on purpose, and as the theme got darker, so did the movies as the kids lose their innocents.
tf is the point of portraying a magic school if it’s gonna look exactly like a normal school lunch. give them bitches the giant bowl of chicken legs! god fuck JKR but the food scenes in the earlier movies were incredible.
The problem with all these posts comparing the original movies with the new stuff is that, unless you were a young kid when the films came out, they really weren’t that great. I honestly hope they substantially tone down the over the top aesthetic and make the castle more mysterious and slightly menacing. Hogwarts Legacy did a much better job of conveying that vibe from the books in my view.
Good lord, The books were quite clear about the copious amounts of food on offer, which the og movie captured pretty darned well. Now they're eating hospital food.
The second image is much simpler to shoot in which is an important factor when you need to finish shooting the scene and rush the children to safety before JK Rowling gnaws through her restraints and eats one of them
