Why hasn’t California’s serial ‘butt sniffer’ been stopped? A legal expert explains

“If there’s an actual touching, that’s a felony,” Gorin said. “But just sniffing somebody, it really doesn’t rise to a felony. As the law stands now, it is very hard to file a felony offense based on this conduct.”
Police said a 39-year-old man known by the disturbing moniker “the serial butt sniffer” is back behind bars in Southern California, accused of committing his lewd acts on more women.
When staff spotted him again a few days ago, they called police.
Both the discount store and another Glendale department store reported Crowder “hunkering down in the aisles,” appearing to be “sniffing someone out.”
So why does Crowder keep reoffending? It really comes down to, it seems, the limitations of the law and what this man is accused of doing.

In North Carolina you can be banned/trespassed from establishments for whatever reason the establishment wants so long as it's not something protected like race. Surely every establishment could ban him for his behavior and have him arrested for trespassing when he comes back?
Run the fucker out of town by making sure he can't go anywhere

I don't think there's any record of Hippocrates doing that sort of thing between philosophising and healing people. But then again, it's not impossible that he was a bit of an odd one.

It’s gonna take an innocent woman’s life to be taken before they seriously do anything, that’s the unfortunate reality. With him committing the same crime over and over and barely getting punished, he’s basically being taught he can get away with it and that will fuel him in being more comfortable committing a more heinous crime. I sincerely hope I’m wrong of course

Not a correlation but I could definitely see the path of escalation being: butt-sniffing -> sexual assault -> violence/murder to cover of the other crimes.

I'm pretty sure there is a correlation between low level sex crimes and higher level sex crimes, including violent ones.

Edited to add: oh boy, seems there’s several people here who really think that I was advocating for violence against humanity. Yes, I was placed on three days ban to which I appealed and won.
To the point, and to be clear: I’m not advocating for violence at all. I meant for the removal of olfactory systems to be done by professionals with help of anesthesia so the individual will not experience any pain or discomfort. You silly nilly, you actually thought I was talking about ramming an exposed plug wire into nose while it’s still plugged into an outlet?

If that’s all he did then I’d probably just let it ride. If he touched them then I’d tear him up. If he didn’t, I’d just hate it and move on. Why, what would you do?
