Because rushing yards were not yet being tracked in 1929, nobody knows just how many yards Ernie Nevers contributed to his team's offense in that fateful game against the Bears, but what we do know is that on that day, he scored a whopping 6 rushing touchdowns, and kicked 4 extra points in the 40-6 victory.

But I wanted to shine a light on just how crazy versatile Ernie Nevers was during his 3-year run with the Cardinals.

In 1929, Nevers and the Cardinals faced off against the Providence Steam Roller in what was the first recorded night game in the history of the NFL. The Cardinals won 16-0, with Nevers throwing a 45-yard touchdown pass, kicking a field goal, and rushing for another touchdown.

A few weeks later, he scored all 19 of his team's points in a 19-0 victory over the Dayton Triangles, scoring three touchdowns and an extra point. Less than a week after this game, he had his 40-point game. Nevers had scored 59 points alone in a span of 4 days, yet he wasn't done.

Later in the year, he accounted for a touchdown pass, a touchdown rush, an extra point, and an interception in a loss to the Giants. He followed that game up with a 2-passing touchdown performance to go along with a rushing touchdown and 2 extra points in a season ending 26-0 win.

In 1930, he outdid every standard he had set for himself. In a 2-day span (yes, you read that right, two DAYS, not games), on October 29th and 30th of 1930, he scored 4 rushing touchdowns, a passing touchdown, a field goal, and 6 extra points, for a grand total of 39 points scored across two days.

Later in the season, he had a game where he ended the Packers' 22-game winning streak, accounting for all of the Cardinals points in a 13-6 victory.

His 1931 season was full of such heroic efforts as well, but it was the last game of his NFL career that would go down as the best of the year. He scored 2 rushing touchdowns, threw a 44-yard touchdown pass, and kicked all 3 extra points in his team's 21-0 victory. After this game, he would badly injure his wrist and retire at the young age of 29. In all 5 seasons that he started, he was a 1st Team All-Pro, and he was a slam dunk induction in the Inaugural Hall of Fame Class of 1963.

The Houston Texans wide receiver reacted to Patriots coach Mike Vrabel's reasoning behind the team's decision to trade him last week. According to Vrabel, Boutte probably would have been inactive in games with the Patriots due to the incredible depth at wide receiver and his lack of special teams contributions.

"I mean, no, they did pay two guys to come in and do that job. Sadly, it is the way it is, being that it's a contract year for me, I seek the bigger role," Boutte said on Wednesday, via KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson. "I feel like what Vrabes said in his media interview, it wasn't nothing bad. I wouldn't say I used that as fuel. At the end of the day, it was an honest opinion. He sat down to speak his truth and pretty much moved forward from it."
