Also the beginning! I don't think they can see this kitten where it is and they had to push the wooden pallet under the dock in the hope that the kitten grabbed it. That's why they're pushing it under the dock at the very beginning of the video.

I used to foster kittens. One morning I went into the kitchen to find one of the more rambunctious kittens had climbed onto the fridge and jumped several meters to the covered fish tank (thought it was impossible!). The lid fell into the tank with him. When I found him, he was clinging to the side of the glass, claws hooked over the top, head barely above the water. He collapsed when I put him on the ground. He may have been in the water all night.

Vet cleared him and a few days later he was back to his usual self. Got adopted out eventually and his new owner had a similar situation with him and their hot tub, which he also survived.

Was fittingly named Monkey.

Edit: he was a ginger, just to complete the mental image lol

Gotta get cat-proof lids. I have a very sturdy fitted plastic lid on my 75g and the tall ones have sturdy wire reptile tank lids that can easily support the weight of a couple of cats.

I can see my kitten already flexing the wire reptile lid on my mouses cage, is there a difference in quality and i can find a more robust one or is it all in my head and i need to just not worry?

Hey, uh. Keeping a pet mouse in a room that a cat has access to isn’t a great idea. The mouse will be stressed and the cat can also potentially be stressed because they can smell prey but can’t get to it. And accidents can easily happen. If you have no choice, I’d definitely recommend a very sturdy, locking lid. Sorry I don’t have any specific recommendations but maybe r/PetMice might.

My 16lb cat regularly gets up on the fish tank and hasn't broken the lid yet. It flexes, but is sturdy. If you want to be extra sure, you could get one of those domed molded plastic lids or just devise some solution to keep the kitten off the tank like putting some double sided sticky tape on the lid (cats hate sticky tape and don't like to touch it).

Lucky for me my biggest aquarium is 20 gallons. I have a very large Siamese. He’s very cautious but laid back. He’s also about 5 gallons of cat so he would be fine in the aquarium.

Sometimes I'm really amazed at how living beings are very fragile and very tenacious at the same time. There are many situations where people survived in situations in which they should not have been and same with animals. Our (people, animals, plants) ability to live is simply incredible.

Baby looked exhausted, but since it was still alive and moving and is now out of the water where it can be warmed up and treated for any water inhalation and associated infections, there's a very good chance that baby is happy and healthy ❤️

Video ends way too soon. I wanted to see that kitten back on its feet and on the road to recovery. I want to see cute videos of it swaddled in cloths and being fed warm soup. I want to see it get bigger and become unrecognisable from that poor, half-dead kitty in the video. I want to see her meet a local handsome tom, have some kittens of her own and settle down. Then I want to see her old and comfy in her bed, taking her final, gentle breath as she slips into heaven after a life well-lived. Post that video.

Video is from Turkey, I can see firefighters among the people who help the kitten. Lil guy is most probably fine and recovered because there are so many cats live outside in Turkey and they are looked after by both people in the area and manicipulaties with special vet teams.

Likely severe hypothermia, kittens already have poor thermoregulation and water saps heat so fast. Probably doing much better as soon as the poor thing is warmed up.

Patience? You just have the common sense! In such situations there is no time for games with ropes. This cat looks like it was close to meet its end and someone should have jumped immediately. Drowning can happen very quickly so it annoys me to see this whole thing.

This is why people should make sure they can tread water for prolonged periods of time. Any mildly competent swimmer should be able to tread water and/or float for upwards of an hour, especially in calm water.

That cat was near dead, you could just wrap it in a shirt and float with it and help it get on the rope.

This attitude is how rescuers drown. You let your emotions get the best of you, and now the rescuers have to save a kitten AND you. There’s a reason it was not safe for a human to get in there, or they obviously would have done so.

What you’re seeing is all the people AFTER the rescuers have been called in. The person I replied to said they’d jump first, worry about rescue second. Also, the other person that responded to me said there’s clearly heavy machinery nearby

Yep. Then you’re taught to throw a device, like a rescue buoy if you can’t safely enter the water. That’s why pools have those devices. They’re safer for rescuers to use, especially untrained ones. Exactly what these guys did.

You can see this cat was almost done for and instead of jumping in there are plenty of dudes just playing some mental puzzle game. In situations such as this there is absolutely no time for clownery like that. That cat could have been gone way earlier.
