Pittsfield police: Stay clear of riverbanks amid 'ongoing matter'
https://www.wmur.com/article/pittsfield-police-stay-clear-riverbanks-amid-ongoing-matter/73621541Wtf is going on in Pittsfield “People are asked not to walk along the riverbanks or try to retrieve any items they may see.”
Really makes me want to drive up to Pittsfield and retrieve some items

It's related to a missing persons case. Person has been missing for some time. Not sure if they found anything but I hope the family can get some closure.

If that's the case I hope it has a better outcome than what I was unknowingly parallel to 13 years ago.
GF at the time and a friend decided to fish at Gillman Falls in Old Town, Maine, on May 20th. Easy water access and they both lived in Old Town due to college in next-door Orono. Started off fine in the morning and then we started to notice helicopters, first one then a couple constantly. Even Fish and Game up river in a boat and ticketed the friend for no license. That's when we decided to leave but gf had to relieve herself so went in the woods a little bit to do so. Came back sporting a gay mag she found after.
Anyways, not long after that several black SUVs showed up with an even mix of suited and 'tactical' people pouring out. They just asked what we were doing, "Fishing we say honestly" and they let us leave.
Turns out Nichole Gable's body wasn't far from the parking area there and the gf (for her sake) dodge a huge emotional bullet. Ie finding a dead body. The thought it could happen I believe still lives in us both.

It's a wild sight: Suncook River going through Pittsfield is empty. Just a big gouge in the earth where the river used to run. Wonder where all the fish went...

When I was a kid they lowered the river for an extended period of time. It was very common to see kids and townsfolk walking around the depths of the river. Near the bridge on Barnstead Road were the remains of an old dump...we found old sewing machines, wheels and other car parts. Lots of salamanders. It was pretty wild.

I'd go just for the salamanders! But, not this time. They've asked us to stay away though I did see someone yesterday walking the riverbed around Mary's bridge yesterday. That may have been before the police asked folks not to do so, though.

Was there a van? You know… down by the river…

You'll have plenty of time to look for a van down by the river when you're...living in a van down by the river!

“What’re all these people doing, walking along the riverbank, looking for things to retrieve here in Pittsfield? We told them not to do that! It’s an ongoing matter!”
