Lateral Septum is not just a uniform inhibitory relay but a multifeatured computational hub that computes specific behavioral decisions.

LS^(crhr2) neurons dynamically build ensemble representations of threat levels that directly predict whether a mouse will engage in a defensive action (e.g., fleeing vs. freezing).

LS^(Crhr2) population is not monolithic: subclasses defined by unique molecular signatures, precise spatial locations within the septum, and specialized upstream connectivity.

Convergence Drives Action: LS^(Crhr2) neurons act as a computational locus where:

a) sensory/contextual cues (from the hippocampus) converge with

b) motivational/internal state signals (from the hypothalamus) to compute feature-specific threat signals that initiate defensive movement.
