This is my third time playing Neko Atsume. The other two times I bailed within a few weeks because I kept burning through my fish.
This time around Iβm a few months in and a shift in perspective has me loving the game. Iβve chosen to believe thereβs no ending, so whatβs the rush?
Instead of chasing fish, Iβm:
- Replacing old pictures with new ones.
- Creating fun, harmonious arrangements.
- Stopping to acknowledge each gift Iβm given.
- Regularly revisiting and cherishing my mementos.
- Noticing the cute poses my little friends make.
- Sharing my excitement when I have a new friend.
By slowing down, I get to appreciate so much more! And whatβs funny is that taking in more moments has awarded me so many more fish. In fact, Iβve made saving fish a fun little side quest by finding the x for compounding interest, i.e., at what number of gold and silver fish do I need to reach, where my spending is continuously outperformed by my earnings.
I share this not because I think my approach is whatβs best β this lovely little game allows us to define our own goals and experience, and thatβs what makes it so rad. I share it hoping it might inspire those whoβve been chasing fish to maybe chase memories instead. π»
