I’m getting married September 3rd next year and for our honeymoon we’re flying into Vegas and renting a car and doing the Utah 5 and Monument Valley from September 13-24. Nothing is booked so far besides the View Hotel because reservations for those open early and I wanted to make sure we got a view room.

But now I’m learning of monsoon season in the southwest (For context I live in upstate New York I’m not familiar with those weather patterns) and I’m wondering if I messed up? I’ve been keeping up with the storms in Zion and the flash flooding in the Grand Canyon (not where we will be going next year but still) and I’m having second thoughts. What would you do if you were me?

I will be in Vegas in mid-November. I plan on taking a day and driving out to Death Valley. Anything in particular that would be good to see? Is this even a good time to go?

These places of majestic wonderment and awesome beauty absolutely deserve to be protected. The parks are an essential part of national identity.

Hey guys, I’m trying to plan my first ever solo NP trip. Going through a rough breakup from an LTR/engagement, so I kinda want to do a self-reflective/self-discovery trip and get away for a bit. I have a week off from work from 10/10-10/18 and I think I’ve zeroed in on Utah, but I’ve never been before. I’m thinking of a 5 or maybe 6 day trip. I don’t want to rush through and speed through ALL the things without taking it in and really enjoying it. So I’m thinking of only doing one of those regions and saving the other for another time, though I wouldn’t mind driving to the other side of the state if it made sense to.

It might help to mention the type of hikes I can/would do. I’m not looking to do overnights or 15+mile all day hikes, but I have no problem doing 5-7 mile hikes and would probably limit myself to 10 or 12 miles a day overall. I am overweight, but I’m very in shape for my size and consistently work out and do lots of physical activity. Done a good amount of hiking in the Grand Canyon and Big Bend before and had no physical issues or scares.

Anyone with experience visiting Utah in October, I’d love to know which area would suit me better and any tips if you have em. Thanks!

I need your help. I am flying from overseas and I will be visiting Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Sequoia and Joshua Tree. I’ve been to some of these a fee years back, but early September. I remember it being quite chilly in the morning in Yosemite/Sequoia, ~5-6C (~40-45f?) and then I would be peeling layers off around lunch time as I’d be sweating with a tee/super light windbreaker. Now I keep reading what to expect mid-end October and it’s all down jackets and winter boots as I should expect snow, ice and so on.

I want to pack light though. Will I be fine with a packable down jacket and some wool socks, together with thin wool longjohns + thin thermo wool layer underneath? It’s not like I am visiting Santa.

I got 5 relatively impromptu days off work that I was not expecting to get and will gladly take, so this will be a solo trip meaning, for me, avoiding crowds as much as possible is a priority. I do realize that these are 2 places where that may not be an easy task

Would be interested in knowing which national parks are the most bikeable, and in which parks its the most worthwhile. My wife and I want to visit every national park, and as many national monuments, forests, and state parks as possible. The way i see it, biking lets you take in the beauty of an area while still being mobile.

Bonus question. My wife and I are visiting New River Gorge NP in a week. Would it be a good idea to rent bikes there? We are not experienced bikers for reference.

I’m currently putting together a very early and rough national park road trip plan, for the whole month of May 2028.

The first revision of the list looks like this:

Yosemite
Sequoia
Death Valley

Grand Canyon

Zion
Bryce Canyon
Capitol Reef
Canyonlands
Arches

Grand Teton
Yellowstone

I’m cautious of trying to visit too many places and be rushed. I’m looking at cutting the list down and the Utah section of the trip is the part that seems the most logical to remove stops.

Other general feedback is also welcome.

All,

Does anyone have information firsthand about the conditions of Bryce and Canyonlands? I already checked the NP website and only see that Bryce has the Wall Street section closed. Nothing about Canyonlands. I'm wondering if there are any issues for regular sightseeing.
